I'm hispanic and use washcloths. My white husband does not. He now uses a loofah after I told him for years how gross it is. However, when we travel to his parents or brother's house I bring my own wash cloths because they don't provide one when they set out towels for us.
I use washcloths and body wash. Hate bar soap! But this discussion got me thinking why is washing our hands with just soap enough but you need a washcloth for showering
I have thought about this before and the only conclusion I can think of is that hopefully, we are washing our hands many times throughout the day so there's not a lot of time for anything too gross to sink in. LOL It also occurred to me that the rest of our body tends to have more odor and smells so a washcloth loofah or shower gloves might be more thorough.
I never even knew people used wash clothes I didn't know there were a thing Before I had kids. I learned about wash cloths through what would be my daughter's father's family their white. I don't think up until that point I had ever even seen a tiny little towel. Staying the night one night and I was handed not only a really soft towel but an itty bitty one I asked what it was for and they looked at me like wtf I've always used lufas. That's how I found out about them n I use them till this day
I was brought up using washcloths in the shower, so I still use them. The husband doesn't use them, I don't know how he cleans himself in the shower (I've never watched him lol). My son doesn't use the washcloths either, but his wife does. So....... who knows.
Omg no I can attest no one in my family now or when I was little including my grandparents and my cousins ever were told to use our hands. we always had a washcloth or a loofah. this is definitely the first time I’m ever hearing of this stereotype towards white ppl. Im with Burt I use 2, a washcloth for private and then my loofah everywhere else.
I don't know a single white person personally who does not use a washcloth or a scrunchie loofah. They should be used once before washing. The long spongy loofah just trap any dirt they scrub off as well as dead skin cells. They should not be used at all. I keep a stack of about 25 in my linen cupboard and you grab one on your way to the shower. On another note you won't convince me this is a colour thing...there are nasty people of all colours. Plus...you cannot know if a person is using one simply because it is not hanging in the washroom. Mine stay in my linen cupboard and go immediately to the laundry room after use. Generalizations are just ridiculous.
I used to use loofahs but I started using wash clothes recently (also white) - My boyfriend doesn't use a washcloth though and he's white. He DOES use a loofah though.
I don't. We were provided them growing up and my parents used them, but I just prefer to lather up with my hands. Not sure why, I always figured it was just a matter of personal preference. Really not sure why people make a big deal out of this. I mean the way some people react, you'd think it was the same as someone saying they take a dust bath instead of a bathing in water. Besides, washcloths and loofahs get nasty and mildewy and it's been proven they can spread bacteria, which is why dermatologists recommend not using them on your face. So long as you throughly soap up and rise off you get clean, what does it matter whether you're using a grody piece of terry cloth? People are so prissy and dramatic sometimes.
I'm white and I use wash cloths loofahs and those shower hand glove things lol

You soap up your hands and rub the lather onto your skin the same way you would when you put on lotion! How is that difficult to understand?

That episode is based on a true story.
