The transition between her describing her roles in adult film, to the joy she experienced from singing, just about knocked me out of my chair. That’s some of the best comedic whiplash I think I have ever experienced. My lord.
“…there was abuse in my childhood…it was musical in nature…” How they got through that without breaking character, or even smiling…. Now that’s talent.
I just love Jane Lynch here. She tells the very dark story of her character's life with such cheerfulness and pride. I also like the quick edit from her discussing the thing she did in her movies that the other girls would not to singing.
".... and then sent me to bed with nothing But dessert..." How in the hell Jane Lynch kept from completely losing it at that point is a testament to her brilliance as an actor! (One of my all time favorite movies.)
You can see her like look down for a second after that line registers with her and you can see in her face that she’s trying so hard not to laugh on the inside
The fact that almost all of this was improvised inspired me. It's just so amazing, how they came up with this stuff on the fly, some of it was scripted like the cardboard cutouts and the three Wisemen and such, but mostly they were just riffing, and I love it.
You can see they improvised the scene with her arm around him, then edited in some material they came up with later. A continuity error as they should’ve had her arm up when they shot the stuff to be added.
I love how right after she says she did a certain thing the other girls...wouldn’t do, there’s a quick edit to her changing the subject to singing, which implies maybe she went into too much detail on the adult film stuff and they had to cut it. Very subtle, but a nice touch!
@@jeffkoehncomedy2370 Nah I think you're right. We have to remember, this is a mockumentary. The humor from this scene comes from the fact that the couple are talking about really horrible backgrounds as if they were nbd. Then the woman starts talking about hers, we see the allusions to sick things, the look on the guy's face as she starts to talk more about hers. Then *suddenly* there's a cut right when she starts getting into juicy details. If this was a real interview then a cut seemingly for no reason wouldn't be out of place, but this is a mockumentary. They have an idea for what they want to convey and everything to that end is accounted for. The cut, then, alludes to her going into greater depth about her background, and the humor there comes from the inference that what she said had to be cut for the exact reason you say. So, I think you're on point, ignore the _____ guy.
My late husband and I found so much joy in repeating memorable dialogue when conversations while socializing would allow. Being huge fans of the 6-fingered man, and his circle of creative, and talented friends, and filmmakers give me happiness remembering my man, and his great sense of humor.
look closely at Lynch's reaction after he says, "sent to bed with nothing BUT dessert"...0:24....since they were probably ad-libbing, she comes that close to breaking up after he says that....
Castle Rock, the company that produced this film, is Rob Reiner's company. Rob Reiner and Chris Guest, as I'm sure you know, have been good friends since the 1970s, so Rob knew what he'd be getting. Warner Bros marketed and distributed the film. They may have kicked in a wee bit for production, but all they had to really do was distribution and marketing, which would have been comparatively cheap, seeing as this picture isn't aimed at the action movie crowd. They also knew what's they'd be getting, as Chris had a decent track record at this point. If you have a keen eye, you can see how cheaply this film was made: character actors, not a lot of huge sets, lower-quality film stock, etc. They could get away with that because it's supposed to look like a documentary, which usually doesn't have the greatest production values. In 2003, Chris's mockumentaries always made more than their costs back, so it would be a no-brainer, if you were a Hollywood studio exec, to distribute this film. Warner Bros made their costs back for their part, and then some. It wasn't a blockbuster, but in 2003, studios were still fine with modest pictures that were modest hits.
Such a great film. And upon rewatching I was pleasantly surprised to see Laura Harris as one of the Fried Egg Faces on the cover of the Main Street Singers LP Sunny Side Up. No wonder they did so well, they had reaper Daisy Adair in their killer line-up (see what I did there?)!
"and then he tapped me for doing some small roles in some of his short films, 😉, 😂, for more mature audiences" "Then I began to some cameos. I was known for doing a certain thing 😐...that some of the other girls weren't willing to do" This is the best dialogue in the whole movie.

The quick edit was probably due to the actors laughing
She was brilliant
Absolutely.
"These were my friends!... and they were made out of gin boxes!" is one of my favorite quotes of all time. His delivery is perfect.
🍸
John Michael Higgins hasn't had a huge career, but in this universe of Christopher Guest movies he's basically the greatest actor of all time.
He was also great as David Letterman in The Late Shift (HBO). He really nailed Dave to a t.

‘Not so tiny tim’ will always be known as the biggest Oscar snub in film history.
A not so tiny snub
Jane Lynch is one of the best comedic actresses alive. She was great in Talladega Nights too.
And Role Models

The explicit pasts of the nerdy husband's wives are a recurring theme in these films. Think Cookie Guggleman.
Bulge?
She blew town at 15.
I can't believe I haven't seen this movie. I love it when comedy lines are played and delivered straight.

Few people do pure cheese as brilliantly as Jane Lynch.
John Michael Higgins is one of them, however.
Another talent Higgins possesses; he is a vocal arranger par excellence - and responsible for that lush sound that TNMSS displayed in the movie...
Jane Lynch can blink her eyes and make laugh out loud.
Two top class actors! When you give talent the chance to ad lib you get gold like this.

Not So Tiny Tim, a film that can be a called an American classic. .
What kind of relationship did Guest have with studio executives that they let him make his movie with NO SCRIPT : O
