If anyone tries to kidnap you using a gun, remember this: if you scream and yell and put up a fight there is a better chance that they will just leave you alone and leave the scene rather than shoot you right there. Second, and more importantly, if you don't put up that fight the chances are high that you are going to be assaulted and / or killed.

    • @techtiger217

You got that right the chance of being killed at the second location is just about 100% so you might as well go down fighting

Scary situation for that child. I have taught my kids that if an adult is asking a child for help, they are up to no good. Because why should any adult ask a child for help? It is supposed to be the other way around.

That can also be said to the danger when falsely promoting children as the spoken heroes of political and environmental action.
We need to listen to the children. Listen to their message. Which of course is written by the one saying to listen.
Be it the parent or teacher. Gun control, climate change, trans rights. The same minded public likes it because it pulls on their heartstrings...or tugs on something else.

Your comment just reminded me of an incident from around 1980 in small town Illinois, population 10,000 that I totally forgot about. I was walking to school in the fresh snow with my buddy early morning. When a car pulled up (I still remember it was a cream yellow colored 70's Vega or Nova) & a clean cut guy with an expensive Canon camera (long zoom lens) around his neck got out and starting talking. He said he worked for the local newspaper and asked if we would kick up some snow while walking so he could take a couple photos to put in the paper. Me noticing that he had the expensive Canon camera, was clean cut/non creepy looking & that "things like kidnappings were unheard of in our hick town" made me think he was legit & I wanted to be in the paper. I now realize I was too naive about the situation, as we were kicking up snow he asked if we could get a little closer so he could get a better shot. That's when my friend panicked, turned around & started running back home. We were about 3 blocks from his house. The guy looked kinda puzzled, got in his car & slowly drove off. For some reason when we got to school, we forgot to mention the incident to any teachers. At the time I told I my friend he was just being paranoid but now realize he did the right thing. I was also thinking at the time if he was an actual kidnapper he'd look for a lone kid, not try to grab 2 kids at once. No kids were ever abducted in town so pretty sure he was a legit non sex offender newspaper employee. The incident made me realize I should have been on the paranoid side like my buddy instead trusting he's who he says he is.

Same. I was about 11 and roller skating on my sidewalk and a white van stopped and the back opened up and the guy asked me something. I made a beeline for my house. Didn't bother to skate back, but literally ran in them. I remember police coming out and after that I never heard anything else. Stuck with me for the rest of my life and changed my trust levels with strangers completely. That same year, a little girl a few blocks away was abducted and found murdered. If I had to guess, it was the same guy.

I was walking home and a car speeds up really loud, and drives into mouth of development street and slams on the breaks. Asks me for directions and is leaning out his window. I think he had his hand on door ready to grab me. I stop and something says an adult doesn't ask kids where a road is. I look around. I'm totally A]LONE. I ran. I was scared to run home bc I didn't want him to know where I lived. I was very scared. I told my mom. This is why kids aren't allowed to be out alone now. Back then it was normal.

Having a gun pointed at you is a terrifying experience. When you imagine that happening to you, you never expect the desperation your mind and body slip into to avoid getting shot so you never imagine yourself reacting to the gun pointed at you. But you immediately think you're about to get shot and you do what you can to escape that and this feeling of desperate escape never stops until the gun is no longer pointed at you and the whole time the thug is demanding you stop being scared to do what he says. It's just a nasty situation to be in. To those who maintain their composure and are calm, you are BRAVE and STRONG. Many times these trigger-happy thugs shoot no matter what and sometimes they shoot by accident. I hope nobody has to experience what I did in being shot at in a drive-by. I'm lucky they left when I pretended to be hit. They missed all three shots.
I hate thugs with a passion. They ruin so many lives and bring so much fear to neighborhoods. They should all just be eradicated like pests. Useless.
I had a hearty chuckle when the young man who was shot in the leg said to the reporter after being asked if he had anything to say to his attackers and he said "get a job." LOL. That was awesome.

A man pulled up and asked me where the mall was. I told him he just passed it
But he continues to follow me again, asking me questions come closer he said I can't hear at that point. I remember what my dad said: if adult needs directions, they need to ask an ADULT NOT A CHILD.
A turn and run to my house.
Boy, our parents know more than we we knew.
Then, John Walsh son was kidnapped in Hollywood, Florida. How sad this world is. I will always remember that Mr. Walsh and family

Finally I ran around to the back of the car and started riding down his license plate and he took off. Then I ran as fast as I could to the library which was half a block away. Parents should teach their kids not only to keep walking, but actually to run! And not just down the sidewalk but up into people's yards as far away from the cars they can get! If you stay on the sidewalk they might pull out a gun and point it out the window and tell you to get in. So you need to keep as much space between you and the side of the car as possible!

As a young girl we were taught if someone drives up to us that we should turn and walk in the opposite direction. In the video the young girl was walking with the driver to her back. We were taught to immediately turn around and walk in the opposite direction until the driver leaves. The driver would have to turn his car around to continue to harass her. Which takes time and effort on his part. Because some of these neighborhood streets are very narrow and he would have to take a lot of time and effort to turn around. Also, other drivers will be more prone to notice him because he's holding up traffic. They may notice too that he is harassing the young girl. We were also told to walk on the side of the street with the oncoming traffic facing you. A driver is going to think twice before he makes a U turn to come back and harass you. Also, you're more likely to see his face and type of car if the car is coming towards you. Like the newscaster mentioned - why would he ask for directions if he had a cell phone. All cell phones have Google maps so he didn't need to ask a young girl for directions. She could have taken a photo of his car and license plate but I understand she was afraid. She did the smart thing and just walked away.

Exactly what I was thinking. The bodycam would have been turned off and Karen would have been seeing stars. She wouldn't ever touch another child like that again everytime she reached for a child she would feel the steel rods that were holding her arms together after some how being broken in multiple places.

You can't go around terrorizing and physically abusing children, let alone someone else's child and expect no consequences! Then she proceeds to disrespect the parents infront of their child. Calling the police did what exactly? she's not in jail. she has no remorse , she didn't take any accountability for her actions and will continue to do it.

See, this is why you need to toughen up the justice system. Prisons and sentencing in the US is a joke. In some countries, they sentence you to judicial whipping even for misdemeanors and the prison cells are hellish and you're forced to work to earn a profit for the prison. You would think very carefully whether you want to reoffend.

I worked admin for 7 years and the amount of times I’ve been assaulted in many different ways, attacked, and targeted by angry customers I can’t even keep track of anymore. I had to leave for my mental health after someone physically assaulted me in front of numerous coworkers and nobody helped me. It’s so nice to hear the ship owner wants to help her and got security in case something happened. I hope she can heal and get back to life afterwards

I remembered as a kid a guy pulled up in front of my house and said my mother was in an car and bus accident and she's in the hospital and she calling out for you. She gave me your address to come get u to see her. I'm thinking, no . My mother and father has a store and they work together. Why would she be on a bus. I was little, confused, scared, so I ran inside the house and waited, hoped my mom would come home
