For me, Final Fantasy II should have been included, considering that it's the most groundbreaking RPG on the system. If it wasn't for that game, there would be no ''Active Time Battle'' and no ''Dramatic storyline'', in subsequent Square RPGs. Final Fantasy III was just, for me, a continuity of the greatness and inovation that Final Fantasy II was.
The American SNES runs at 60 hz, has games that never made it to PAL regions like Earthbound, FF, and Chrono Trigger, and if you cut out two small pieces of plastic in the cartridge bay it will play Super Famicom games. But I guess the European SNES is still better.
useraccount333 ... You're wrong. You just are. Besides, it's far easier to mod the circuitry of a Euro SNES to work at 60hz and with foreign games (never mind a cheap lockout defeat/slot adaptor interposer would do most of the work for you) than to try and fix the cosmetic awfulness that is the US case. Rounded edges and multiple subdued greys with just the odd splash of primary color to jazz things up became one of the 90s headline styles, copied by everything from phones to cars... Nintendo Europe was merely ahead of the game. Or of course if you have a dead one you can put the US motherboard inside the case and get the best of both worlds. So long as you have the right power adaptor to go with, and an NTSC-60 compatible TV. Never mind that the 60hz thing is a bit moot if you're largely hooking your console up to screens that can only run at 50hz anyway. In return, we at least got built in RGB output for much crisper pixels (and the ability to connect to 15khz monitors, where - even if nothing could be done to fix the slowdown, which we weren't aware of anyway because *that's just how fast the game ran* as far as we were concerned - the picture could be stretched out to fill the entire screen quite easily)...
to say Turtles in time was shallow is to not realise how much more dynamic the combat moves were in relation to every other game in this genre. The game is like a stripped down Bayonneta in this sense
Yeah seriously...when you're SPEAKING it really isn't that hard to say Super Nintendo. Your mouth doesn't have to type the letters, I don't see what the big deal is, LOL. SUPER NINTENDO, DAMNIT!!!!!
I'm really surprised SimCity, Super Soccer, Super Tennis and Stunt Race FX weren't also included. They're pretty much no-brainers, Super Soccer even appeared on the Japanese line up. The SNES mini in general was completely thoughtless for the European market, all the games have their US box art, US names (Contra III instead of Probotector) and half of the "classics" were never even released here (Earthbound, Mario RPG, Final Fantasy III for example) Also it's odd it had just 21 games whereas the NES mini had 30.
+Larry Bundy Jr I can answer why, mostly. Super Tennis just missed my internal cut, Super Soccer lost out because ISS Deluxe, SimCity - well, I've always been an Amiga boy for that - and Stunt Race I, shocking as it may be, never got on with. Agree with it being a bit of an EU rush job though. I think it's great, but would 60hz versions of Super Probotector and the Firemen really have been that hard? And it's Final Fantasy VI, much as they try to pretend otherwise.
The difference in opinions from USA to EU are very intriguing. I am not sure though if getting a bunch of out-of-region RPGs was more appealing. I would wager if the US market got about 5 J-RPGs that were never released here they'd be excited. From the US standpoint there will always be omissions. But for us it is a very strong (I'd say the best) standalone entry as an All-in-One RetroConsole. Most of our reviewers really seem to agree on Chrono Trigger and TMNT 4. Everything else from everyone is very personal and varies widely. Usually Sunset Riders and/or Wild Guns comes up. (My #1 exclusion being UN Squadron) Thanks to the hack I have done more research into excellently explained lists like yours and my flexible roster has grown to almost 70 additional titles. -Thanks for your list. (My wife's Top Adds were DKC 2/3 and Mario All Stars)
True, but FF"3" was a pretty popular import choice (making it to the window of a local game shop, alongside an inexplicable Ranma ½ import) and even got reviews in UK mags... Despite how much it ended up costing once shipping and a converter dongle were included. Plus after the much greater exposure it got in the emulator era, you couldn't really NOT include it. And, well, it had to be called FF3 because legal reasons mean they can only really include the official translation rather than any of the improved fan translation romhacks of FF6. That AND Chronotrigger together would have been a nice combo...
Isn't that better, though (the fact that he got redrawn sprites instead of just being a palette swap of Mario)? Besides, he doesn't actually have changes to his physics; that's only in _Super Mario Advance 2._
For not including Super Mario All-Stars, everyone who had final say in the line up should be the recipients of well-placed, open-hand slaps to the face from everyone who purchased the unit.
@Starscream91 come on son, you must've heard how easy it is to mod the Snes mini. I don't know how to back up an iPad but I managed to add all these games to my Snes mini.

Better List: - Donkey Kong Country 2 - TMNT IV: Turtles in Time - Chrono Trigger - Pilot Wings - Killer Instinct - Mortal Kombat II - Blackthorne - NBA Jam TE - King of Monsters 2 - SimCity - R-Type III- The Third Lightning - Ken Griffey Jr. Presents MLB - Final Fight 3
I've been shouting "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" since the SNES Classic Mini was announced. Also, Rock 'n Roll Racing. And yeah, not including Pilot Wings is hugely perplexing.
I absolutely cannot believe that secret of evermore is not on the snes mini. It holds a special place in my heart as I got it for my birthday when I was just a wee lad. Not many people like it though, I guess because they had some of the best rpg's ever made to play as well (secret of mana, chrono trigger, ff3 etc))What are your thoughts?

Super mario All-stars should have been included because of just how popular it was. Besides the pack-in title/system seller Super Mario World, All-stars is the highest selling game on the system. That should be reason enough. Though, personally I prefer the originals to the remade games mainly cause I enjoy the original music over the redone soundtrack.

I'm disappointed in several of those titles missing but one more would be Top Gear 2, it just feels a bit more advanced specially in sound track for it's time.

Have you played through The Firemen on your SNES Mini? For one of the levels you have to go outside and it’s raining. Apparently, whatever affect they used for generating the rain does not emulate well so the result is a completely black screen for that level. I’ve been searching for answers on what to do about it (If anything can be done). For the time being though I’d have to say that The Fireman is not a good choice due to that terrible glitch.
Aladdin, Joe and Mack, Earthworm Jim, Jurassic Park, Super Street fighter, NBA jams 2, super bomber man, TMNT, The Simpson’s Bart’s Nightmare, Donkey Kong 3
“That Purple thing” is much better than the one with the rainbow flag skittles controller with the console that looks like it was marketed to kids that are still in elementary school
Mystical Ninja(fortunately I got the Super Famicom that has it), Actraiser(The title I was most disappointed not being included), Chrono Trigger(fortunately this game has become accessible on everything from consoles, Steam, and Mobile), Super Mario All Stars(how dare they?), TMNT Turtles in Time(Fantastic arcade port) Super Double Dragon(Japanese version) Shadow Run(obscure classics that lives on today) DK County 2(No explanation needed) Sunset Riders(Another really good port of an unconventional arcade game) River City Girls Zero(English translation of the Kunio game) Harvest Moon(an absolute classic known for obscurity and giving gamers a new experience)
SNES Mini2- Axelay, Battletoads/Double Dragon, Blackthorne, Castlevania: Dracula X, Chrono Trigger, Demon's Crest, DKC2, Earthworm Jim, Final Fight 3, Gradius 3, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat 2, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Pilotwings, R-Type 3, Shadowrun, Sim City, Space Megaforce, Sunset Riders, Super Double Dragon, Super Mario All Stars, Super R-Type, Super Star Wars Trilogy, Super Tennis, Super Turrican, TMNT4, Tetris/Dr Mario, UN Squadron & Wild Guns- I'd pay $300 for this collection
You just tempted me back to Super Mario All Stars......man it looks great......have over 700 games on a modded SNES Classic......just haven't got around to playing it properly
@@619AGT ...I hadn't the time to do it myself, then when I did find the time, Nintendo got the bigger ROM sites closed...SO, you could use Hakchi or Retro arch.....being lazy....I went onto eBay...and got one for $150.....well worth it.....each game still has 4 save states too. Think about it, let's pretend each game was about $25....now multiply that by 700....that would come to $18,500......so for $150/200 or 250...…..you'll never be bored....you can even contact the seller and ask them to put any game you want on there, of that era
Killer Instinct ( because of Rare copyright) Final Fantasy II ( 4 in Japan) Final Fight 2, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, U.N Squadron, Actraiser, Harvest Moon. There's so many....
12 games that should've been on the snes classic edition and they were 1. Donkey kong country 2 Diddy kongs quest 2. Donkey kong country 3 dixies double trouble 3. Double dragon v the shadow falls 4. Earthworm Jim 5. Earthworm Jim 2 6. Mortal kombat 7. Mortal kombat 2 8. Mortal kombat 3 9. Super mario all stars 10. Tetris Dr Mario 11. Teenage mutant ninja turtles turtles in time 12. Final fight

I mostly agree with you! But about fireman games, did you ever try Ignition Factor? Alltough I kind of suck at it, I like it more than The Firemen. I've tried them both. And I think that Ignition Factor is actually educational. And it's fun too. Great video!
That looks really cool! We never got it here in Europe (just as the States never got the Firemen), so it likely passed me by. Will definitely give it a look though, thanks for the pointer.
Hey, I too live in Europe. We probably didn't get either of them here in Finland but i have been using an emulator to find some lost gems. Oh the poor selection for RPG's also...
Oh yeah... about RPGs. There was a great game called Dark Half which only came out in Japan. I could play it through by using a "english patch" for the rom. It was great! I suppose it was due to the cruelty of the game why it wasn't published elsewhere. Back in the day I mean
Well, I mean, yeah Chrono Trigger would complete the SNES RPG Shrine, but to me Chrono Trigger doesn't feel the same without Akira Toriyama's badass anime cutscenes which had badass re-orchestrated music reserved for them
100% Agree with ISS Deluxe sadly America dominates the western market and Americans haven't even heard of the game, hence it's always missing on every American SNES list.
For me, Final Fantasy II should have been included, considering that it's the most groundbreaking RPG on the system. If it wasn't for that game, there would be no ''Active Time Battle'' and no ''Dramatic storyline'', in subsequent Square RPGs. You, sir, are a monster.
I always liked the angular design myself, and the purple was unique. It was so 90's.
The European design was too boring for the taste of us in America. We knew it. Japan knew it. Only Europeans seemed to not.
The American SNES runs at 60 hz, has games that never made it to PAL regions like Earthbound, FF, and Chrono Trigger, and if you cut out two small pieces of plastic in the cartridge bay it will play Super Famicom games.

- Mega Man X2
- Mega Man X3
- Mega Man 7

You can add it fine but one of the levels doesn’t work correctly.

The color scheme on the North American controller looks better. Less like a "Fisher Price" child's toy.
Facts. It's *wayyy* better than the EU version. The EU looks bland.
How is the stylish purple SNES horrible when you guys have the kiddy controller with 4 bright ass colors?
Yes, colours are for children.
Super Smash TV. Mindless violence and impossible odds turned all the way up to 90`s. One of my personal favorites.
What is a Snazz is that a new type of energy drink, drink a Snazz and conquer the day
I was surprised Zombies Ate my Neighbors, Tetris Attack, and Earthworm Jim weren't on the Snes Mini
I finally managed to mod my SNES Classic and added a ton of games but not too much to the point of overloading the Classic.

Great List. I put 35 more games of Snes e more 30 from Nes. Now im really playing with power. Super Super Power
my snes classic has 735 games from GBA..GBC..SNES..SEGA..ARCADE..PSP..DREAMCAST..PS1..NES..18 saturday morning cartoons and 5 movies
You forgot Lufia 1
MK2... The game which single-handedly determined SNES the winner of the console war.
...This coming from a Sega kid.
Thought it was Donkey Kong Country
Have you played through The Firemen on your SNES Mini? For one of the levels you have to go outside and it’s raining. Apparently, whatever affect they used for generating the rain does not emulate well so the result is a completely black screen for that level. I’ve been searching for answers on what to do about it (If anything can be done). For the time being though I’d have to say that The Fireman is not a good choice due to that terrible glitch.
Bransfield, did you add all these games to your SNES mini?
Rock n roll racing, earthworm Jim.
Aladdin, Joe and Mack, Earthworm Jim, Jurassic Park, Super Street fighter, NBA jams 2, super bomber man, TMNT, The Simpson’s Bart’s Nightmare, Donkey Kong 3
I was gutted Cannon Fodder wasn't on there and even more gutted to find you can't add it on either. Best Snes game for me.
I agree with Mario All Stars! It’s bloody crazy that it’s not on the SNES mini
Illusion of Gaia & Secret of Evermore.
Snez?! Great video except I was constantly wondering if snez is how people in the uk actually say that or if it’s a bit you’re doing
"SNES" is not a word!
It is here in the UK...none of that S.N.E.S or Super N.E.S 🙄
Snes mini is the most awesome system ever. I've got over 70 games on it and still have space
“That Purple thing” is much better than the one with the rainbow flag skittles controller with the console that looks like it was marketed to kids that are still in elementary school
ha! you baby.
Mystical Ninja(fortunately I got the Super Famicom that has it), Actraiser(The title I was most disappointed not being included),
Chrono Trigger(fortunately this game has become accessible on everything from consoles, Steam, and Mobile),
Super Mario All Stars(how dare they?),
TMNT Turtles in Time(Fantastic arcade port)
Super Double Dragon(Japanese version)
Shadow Run(obscure classics that lives on today)
DK County 2(No explanation needed)
Sunset Riders(Another really good port of an unconventional arcade game)
River City Girls Zero(English translation of the Kunio game)
Harvest Moon(an absolute classic known for obscurity and giving gamers a new experience)
Rock and roll racing, mortal kombat,
We share the exact same sentiment about ChronoTrigger.
Act Raiser, Gradius 3, Final Fight, UN Squadron
Would u mod your to just put theses games on it
All-stars definitely should have been included.
SNES Mini2- Axelay, Battletoads/Double Dragon, Blackthorne, Castlevania: Dracula X, Chrono Trigger, Demon's Crest, DKC2, Earthworm Jim, Final Fight 3, Gradius 3, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat 2, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, Pilotwings, R-Type 3, Shadowrun, Sim City, Space Megaforce, Sunset Riders, Super Double Dragon, Super Mario All Stars, Super R-Type, Super Star Wars Trilogy, Super Tennis, Super Turrican, TMNT4, Tetris/Dr Mario, UN Squadron & Wild Guns- I'd pay $300 for this collection
You just tempted me back to Super Mario All Stars......man it looks great......have over 700 games on a modded SNES Classic......just haven't got around to playing it properly
Noelio Emerald-Isle I hope you don’t mind me asking, but how can you get SNES Classic modded?
@@619AGT ...I hadn't the time to do it myself, then when I did find the time, Nintendo got the bigger ROM sites closed...SO, you could use Hakchi or Retro arch.....being lazy....I went onto eBay...and got one for $150.....well worth it.....each game still has 4 save states too. Think about it, let's pretend each game was about $25....now multiply that by 700....that would come to $18,500......so for $150/200 or 250...…..you'll never be bored....you can even contact the seller and ask them to put any game you want on there, of that era
TMNT would be unlikely, since Konami's license to the TMNT games expired many years ago...
This is an excellently timed comment given Konami released the Ninja Turtles compilation that included all the games just the other day.
Mystic Quest
You can put the roms on the system yourself.
Only the amount of save games is limited.
Killer Instinct ( because of Rare copyright) Final Fantasy II ( 4 in Japan) Final Fight 2, Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, U.N Squadron, Actraiser, Harvest Moon.
There's so many....
Its downright criminal that Actraiser wasnt included. Oh well, I put it on mine.
Wait, what’s wrong with Wild Guns on ps4?!
The game's great, the price - at launch - was obnoxiously high.
It's easy to put those games in anyway and risk-free (also actually free to do).
Agreed on TMNT, Chrono Trigger, and Mario All Stars. I personally would’ve added Ken Griffey Jr presents MLB and Tecmo Super Bowl.
5:58 CHRONO TRIGGER
Dom Kennedy's "Locals Only" samples this song Heavy.
Check it out.
Only real ones get it. But Sledgren's flip of Never Been and Never Been 2 are WAY harder
my favorite additions are the original street fighter 2, sim city, and the current roster rom hacks of the sports games like nba jam ken griffy ect
Ok I wish chrono trigger would have been on that thing and final fantasy 4 which we know as final fantasy 2. Mega man x 3
12 games that should've been on the snes classic edition and they were
1. Donkey kong country 2 Diddy kongs quest
2. Donkey kong country 3 dixies double trouble
3. Double dragon v the shadow falls
4. Earthworm Jim
5. Earthworm Jim 2
6. Mortal kombat
7. Mortal kombat 2
8. Mortal kombat 3
9. Super mario all stars
10. Tetris Dr Mario
11. Teenage mutant ninja turtles turtles in time
12. Final fight
I had to add more games to my SNES Classic with the Hackchi2 program. Super Mario All-Stars was one of them.
best software ever created :)
Man uni rally what a game that was they should have put Adams family on it such a underrated game is awesome (well how I remember it from my younger years lol)
Mortal kombat, Doom, Super Mario All-stars, Crono trigger,Castlevania Dracula X.
Well, I mean, yeah Chrono Trigger would complete the SNES RPG Shrine, but to me Chrono Trigger doesn't feel the same without Akira Toriyama's badass anime cutscenes which had badass re-orchestrated music reserved for them
Turtlrs in time was actually one of those rare games that was better than the arcade.
100% Agree with ISS Deluxe sadly America dominates the western market and Americans haven't even heard of the game, hence it's always missing on every American SNES list.
I will agree with the Chrono Trigger pick and the Turtles in Time pick.
I think the reason Chrono Trigger didn't make it is because Square Enix had plans to release it on Steam (though, more like port the mobile version).
Ohhh, so the Mini is what the Classic is called in Europe! Nobody actually explained that to me and I thought it was a knock off.
They're all on your favorite emulator. :^)
Mine even run on my xbox one.
