Glad to see that you have as many good things to say about "Flight to the Finish" as I do Josh :)
What do you think about that reference to Oin? [No spoilers!]
"I WANNA RUIN YOUR LIFE"
"Don't"
"Okay"
XD
"I promised."
...Oh. Ooooohhhhhhh. Yeah, that really could've done something there. It would've been hard to get there since they weren't ready to even hint at dead Apple parents, but if they had that could've been really impactful.
Oh... Shit, THAT'S what he was alluding to.... fuck. Yeah, that would have been so heartwrenching.
But that writter was "locked" by the N.D.A. about the apple parents back then (no references could be made at the script level); only visual stuff added by the director (like the shooting stars in S3E08) could pass into the episode.
-> If this was a later Season 5 episode (after she gets her cutiemark, it would make even more sense for Applebloom to get that "responsability upgrade"), then Applejack could say it.
“Cheese for everyone”. In an episode as crazy as that one, that line is appropriate
btw, Twilight's Kingdom pt 2 should've been,
"Last time on Pony Ball Z...!"
No, because they wrapped up the entire fight in _minutes_ . I'd like to see _DBZ_ *try* and do that. Only TFS can.
Also, Lilly Orchard made that joke in her own MLP in 10 Words vid.
@@sorenthefilmbrony *her. Also, she didn't make that joke really. She mentioned DB, but not in the same way the OP did.
I'm gonna say this, The Mane Attraction may be filler, but you know what? A lot of episodes in MLP as a whole are filler. It's still a grand episode and the fact that this was a sendoff for Amy Keating Rodgers makes all the more better in my eyes.
5:45 & 6:04 Hehe ^^' yeah hate to break it to you buddy, but I sadly know one or two people who really don't like Amending Fences (or at least have complicated feelings towards it), one of them outright LOATHING it....BECAUSE of Moondancer. I won't name names or point fingers, but yeah detractors of this episode sadly do exist despite this being one of the best in the whole show.
WHAT someone doesn't like my waifu!?
That is pretty interesting.
I can see how Moondancer wouldn't be relatable to some. But at the same time, it's hard to see the emotions not being able to reach.
Like personally, Fences isn't close to my favorite in the series, but I can see just how good an episode it is and why others would have the close connection.
Key?
I could get extroverts not liking Amending Fences. It makes a big deal of Moondancer putting herself out there and suffering a huge blow when it didn't work it. Every introvert knows exactly how that feels, but extroverts do that sort of thing naturally and just don't get how big a deal it can be for some people.
Whenever an opinion on anything seems universal, there's always going to be at least that one person who goes against that universal opinion
I very much enjoyed "Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep" despite its retcon of Luna's attitude toward her past actions.
2:34 Do you mean prior to this episode? Because I can't think of how she could be more sympathetic here. COTLM knew they couldn't just excuse everything Diamond did up to that point, so they instead *EXPLAINED* why she was such a bully. It's just too bad that since then Diamond has disappeared all together.
A big issue is that Tiara's redemption happens at the speed of light. If the writers had been allowed to expand this into two or three episode, where her conflict is given a full episode to be shown and develop, she'd have been more believable. Alternatively, the writers could have sprinkled hints of growing doubts about what she was doing throughout the series. Instead, Tiara was shown to be a bully to the bone, and I think most of us thought Silver Spoon would leave her to be redeemed, and join the CMC.
On the other hood, the scene in the treehouse where you can see Tiara on the brink of breaking before Pipsqueak interrupts is amazingly well done. Hints like that throughout the series would have been nice to see.
Agreed, that much would've been appreciated. Especially when episodes like "Ponyville Confidential" and "Flight to the Finish" made her into a G-rated pyschopath.
Holy s *YAY* t, your Mark Hamill was ON POINT.
Well, he's the Fiery Joker after all.
I'm quite enjoying these Jello apocalypse styled videos😁👌
Glad to see someone shares some opinions about these episodes. I agree Amending Fences was probalby one of my favorite episodes of the entire show. I disagree with some things, but overall I really enjoyed your video!
And the battle of Josh vs Lily continues...
Episodes Josh and Lily mostly agreed on:
Castle Mane-ia
Flight to the Finish
Power Ponies
It Ain't Easy Being Breezies
Somepony to Watch Over Me
Maud Pie
Trade Ya!
Inspiration Manifestation
Equestria Games
Twilight's Kingdom
Castle Sweet Castle
Bloom and Gloom
Tanks for the Memories
Appleoosa's Most Wanted
Make New Friends But Keep Discord
Amending Fences
Canterlot Boutique
Brotherhooves Social
Hearthbreakers
The Hoofields and the McColts
Episodes Josh liked way more than Lily:
Princess Twilight Sparkle (+14)
Daring Don't (+6)
Rarity Takes Manehatten (+10)
Pinkie Apple Pie (+4)
Pinkie Pride (+9)
Filli Vanilli (+6)
For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils (+3)
Leap of Faith (+4)
Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3 (+14)
The Cutie Map (+8.5)
The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone (+14)
Slice of Life (+7)
Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep (+3)
Rarity Investigates (+18)
Made in Manehatten (+3)
Crusaders of the Lost Mark (+6)
The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows (+4)
The Mane Attraction (+13)
The Cutie Re-Mark (+7)
Episodes Lily liked way more than Josh:
Bats! (+3)
Rainbow Falls (+3)
Three's a Crowd (+3)
Simple Ways (+3)
Twilight Time (+4)
Princess Spike (+3)
Party Pooped (+4)
Scare Master (+3)
What About Discord? (+3)
Negative scores indicate ironic enjoyment, so the rule is the closer to 0, the worse the episode. So, for example, Rarity Investigates got a -10 from Lily and an 8 from Josh, so Lily liked it 2 points more than Josh.
Now for 6-7
I have a feeling that won't come out until sometime between the Season 8 finale and Season 9 premiere.
Gregory Cassella ok
The idea of having apple Jack's over protectiveness because of a promise to her parents would be so heartwarming and sad at the same time and I love it
"I promised"
God DAMN.
0:49 - Exactly -- after Rainbow Dash helped save Equestria so many times, you'd think the Wonderbolts would be begging to join her.
Josh's summary of Twilight vs. Tirek is literally the Broly Scenario...
"I promised"? ... Why I feel like that's heavy and sad stuff that has something to do with AJ's parents...?
While I definitely don’t dislike Amending Fences, there is one thing that I don’t get. Why did Moondancer isolate herself after Twilight didn’t show up if she still had other friends that did show up? Like, why does the absence of one friend overrule the attendance of three?
Now that I know the schedule, COME ON SILVER YOU ONLY GOT FOUR EPISODES LEFT THEN YOU CAN FINALLY MOVE ON TO SEASON 6!!!
I'm lovin these kinds of videos
Just noticed the pony who fixed his "That's awesome. That's really dumb." is his wife.
1:46 shots fired.
Wow. I never considered THAT could've been the reason AJ goes so bonkers with protection in that episode and just how perfectly that would've explained it all.
Too bad the writers never considered it either 👿
i mean they might have, but it would have been shot down instantly by the producers
There's a difference between 'never considered' and 'chose not to use'.
4:42-4:44
Uh, I'm not so sure about that, Josh. Remember in Trade Ya when Twilight was talking to Pinkie about her books and she said this line: "This was the one I was so absorbed in the day Spike decided he owed Applejack a life debt." I think a better example of an episode that can be skipped over without missing anything important is The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well.
1:41 you really are amazing aramu!
I have never been this early for a Joshua upload since......ever
Awesome dude can't wait for season 6
Guys... I wish that Wonderbolt Academy was Rainbow's key episode. It would be so much better
"Pest control is ethically wrong apparently"...Well it kind of is in a world where all mammalian life has human level intelligence and sentience. Heck we see one of the bats READING in a scene, so I'd say in the MLP world killing a bat might actually be considered murder. So I can see why Fluttershy would get mad at Applejack for wanting to just get rid of them.
There's an ethical difference between 'sentience' and 'sapience.' I think you should look the latter up if you're not familiar with the concept already. It's incredibly important to moral questions about the different animals in FiMverse, especially when it comes to animals like the cows, who can talk back.
I am familiar with the difference, but I was in a hurry when I wrote that so I didn't think about it at the time. Most people think that sentient and sapient are the same thing anyway so I guess my meaning would still get through. And yes, it does bring up a LOT of questions about how animals in the show are viewed and treated.
No joke when I finished ‘What about Discord’ the reaction was, “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!”
(i´m not natively english so excuse my spelling and grammar) i love "for the one whom Sweetie Belle toils"! it´s definetely my favorite episode after return of harmony!
Welp it's official. I'm probably the only person who actually liked Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep. That's actually one of my favourite episodes. I also feel like the only person who liked Power Ponies, but.... uhhhhh... I don't think it's that great. Just generally enjoyable. I understand people's issues with that episode.
CHEESE FOR EVERYONE!!!
and
*Viking noises*
really got me.
Anyway, perfectly reviewed.
Slice of Life is probably the only MLP episode I would ever willingly watch.
2:16 IT'S NOT ABOUT DEPRESSION IT'S ABOUT GUILT!!!!
The entire plot was about Luna feeling guilty about her past actions in becoming Nightmare Moon and almost dooming all of ponykind. Even though everybody else forgave her and gave her another chance, she never forgave herself. the Tantabus (spelling?) was the manifestation of her beating herself up over it. That is not how Depression works, Depression has no central cause, and there is no "forgive yourself" option, but there is with guilt. I am sick and tired of people shouting to the heavens that this episode was about depression, simply demonstrating that they fail to understand the difference between depression and guilt!
Except not everyone is gonna see it the same way as you.
right, but I don't think that's any reason to ignore the original intention of the episode and decry it as awful because it fails to properly convey a message that was never the intended message in the first place.
I could be wrong, but I remember in his FOBEquestria review he acknowledged that other fans *did* pick up on the original intention, but admitted that he couldn't see past his own interpretation.
He did.
It does not work because the writter did not bring into the episode exactly WHAT did Nightmare Moon in the past that led Luna to believe that she deserves that guilt.
It is even worse if you try to "found it" by watching the show (both past and future episodes from that point), since the aparent results are just POTENTIAL [things Nightmare Moon ~could~ have done IF she was not stopped by Celestia and the Mane Six]; because she only existed (free) for just a few minutes/hours [she just did some damage to her own Castle and later knocked out a few royal guards that attacked her (self-defense?)].
-> Nightmare Moon never caused pain or suffering to ~ponies~ in general [she did try to _exterminate_ her sister and the mane six, but she never actually succeded]; a simple (or complex) apology to each of those 7 individuals would have being enough.
I'd argue that all you need to know for Rainbow Falls is that Dash got a shiny rainbow badge.
Much like how for Molt Down all you need to know is that Spike has fucking wings now.
6:17 you met linkara?! Nice
Now we just need a collab of some kind between them.
One of the comics? Even thou they are non-canon?
Maybe, Linkara has already reviewed a few of them including "The Root of the Problem". But maybe they could team up for a "Reflections" review or even something more recent like the "Legends of Magic" annual?
... I want to see Ponykara helping with a review on FOB Equestria, complete with cannon firing him back to his own channel, and Pony Viga going nuts fangirling.
You lucky son of a gun
I can't find CommandoSolo's video on Somepony to Watch Over Me. Is it still up?
2:08 Since when were you into Final Destination? Cause if you are, I'd be up to have a nice discussion of the 5 films, especially Final Destination 2.
0:50
The million bit question.
Crusaders of the Lost Mark is the best episode of the series.
Pinkie Pride is the best episode of the first four seasons.
Season 5 > Season 4.
funcoolfunfun Diamond’s development was written too late.
Honestly, given how despicable DT had gotten before that episode (as in, she was the worst pony ever), the sheer fact that they were able to redeem her at all is amazing.
THAT"s why I consider it the best episode of the show.
The CMC getting their marks was just icing on the cake.
funcoolfunfun sorry. It has to take A LOT more than ten minutes of an episode for me to forgive her.
I'd agree, if it weren't for The Pony I Want to Be, which is my pick for the best song in the series.
I could not get any sympathy on that song. That was incredibly forced.
6:18 you met linakara. LUCKY!!!!😤
Eric Olsen I know right?!?!? He sent me a video of him sitting next to Linkara and I immediately called and started bawling and I got to talk to Lewis I was DYING
SO MUCH NOSTALGIA FOR PINKIE'S BREW IN THE BACKGROUND THO
Josh: "How can you make Discord Boring??!!!"
Me: Probably because i was acting like a jerk...I mean, No one, but no one loves jerks.
I got an add on this video where a teenage boy played by an adult licked hair gel off of another teenage boy played by an adult's head in a high school locker room. That's all I have to add
I noticed that you gave the season 5 finale 2 praters a positive score despite in your review saying you didn't like it. Did the episodes grow on you as time passed?
Holy shit! Josh! Mlp!
My 2 favorite seasons and it is interesting to see how your opinions have changed on some episodes since you've covered them in both your normal reviews and your TPTS videos on FOB Equestria. There are a couple of things in the video that I disagree with, I didn't like Starlight as a villain mainly due to her ideology and I'm just not a fan of those kind of villains (I'll give Starlight that she was intimating due to be seemingly always one step ahead of the main cast and the fact that her ultimate plan in the season finale is pretty diabolical); I didn't really mind Pinkie Pie too much in Filli Vanilli, I do admit that she was the episode's biggest flaw, but it didn't break the episode for me. Honestly, I had more problems with the fandom's reactions towards that flaw rather than the flaw itself, I just think that Pinkie in that episode got way too much hate. Overall, great video Josh, I'm really looking forward to you covering seasons 6 and 7 in this format (especially for certain episodes such as Every Little Thing She Does, All Bottled Up, and The Perfect Pear).
Season 4 and 5 are still top tier of the show for me. Also Mr. Enter perfectly explained why Celestia's plan was flawed: it was out of desperation. When we cover Twilight's Kingdom in our podcast someday i'm gonna bring this point and finally will defend this part of the episode cause for me it's been harped on way too much at this point.
6:42 (Gibberish)
"It's in the contract?"
(Gibberish)
"Oh, Okay." Wait! I have a contract?
(click)
Hello?
Hello Josh. I'm trying to break out into the mlp analysis community but I'm not sure how to go about getting started.
If I'm honest, I don't really have negative opinions on any MLP episode. I love the series too much to care 😊
Okay, I feel Bloom & Gloom was just there to write Babs off the show, and they had to stretch it to 22 minutes...
Also, does Twilight Time actually explicitly retcon The Showstoppers? I can't find any information on that anywhere...
COME ON BONELESS WORK YOUR MAGIC
(throwwing sound effect that goes on for ten seconds or something)
BOOOOOOOOM
hows about you do one this for EQG and the shorts?
"this joke rocks, get it? GET IT?"
were not trying to
Good video.
4:02 cozy glow: am i a joke to you
Pinky Pride is still one of my favorite episodes!
My List (Updated)
Top 5
5. Crusaders of the Lost Mark (just barely edged out Flight to the Finish, I actually wanted to give this entry a tie)
4. Pinkie Pride (Cheese Sandwich? Need I say more?)
3. The Cutie Map (Best premiere so far)
2. Amending Fences (use to be my #1, but as of now, I still love it)
1. Twilight's Kingdom (Holy Shit! Since when did MLP turn into Dragon Ball Z)
Worst 5
5. Princess Spike (The blandest Spike Episode to date)
4. Twilight Time (The CMC are both idiots and get punished)
3. What About Discord? (Making Discord Unfunny is a sin in and off itself)
2. Somepony to Watch Over Me (I got nothing...)
1. Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? (that ending destroyed it's moral, theme. It also destroyed it's very noted continuity in the process as well as one of [if not] the worst moral in the entire show)
When I saw two 10/10s on the first portion of the video, I was thinking it'd be tough to pick the best.
Will you be doing six and seven too?
Well, I guess it's time to follow up on what I said I'd do in Josh's previous Every Episode of MLP Reviewed in 10 Words or Less video about separating the episodes he talks about in each installment into two individual lists to show how they'd be ranked within their own seasons. If everyone else is ready, then let's get started.

22. Bloom & Gloom
23. Party Pooped
24. Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?
25. Appleoosa's Most Wanted
26. What About Discord?
One of two episodes that I developed a strong hatred for was “bats!” Objectively speaking, there were great moments, especially the “stop the bats” song, but I really hated the insinuation that pest and animal control is morally wrong. I and the others could clearly see that Applejack was portrayed negatively for wanting to “stop the bats” and protect her private property. Reality is private property protection trumps animal well being, not the other way around.
Magic Sheep isn't about depression! It has NOTHING to do with depression.
Dang-it, I just got Pinkie's Brew out of my head. Now its back with a vengeance.
"I'll cook up a solution from the knowledge I've accrued..."
I mostly agree with your points. Though I don't like It Ain't Being Breezies as much as you did, since I thought the Breezies were annoying and Twilight being able to transform the Mane 6 into Breezies came out of nowhere. The moral is great in theory, but I'm not sure it's executed that well. It's a 6/10 episode for me.
I love Crusaders of the Lost Mark, despite how rushed Diamond Tiara's redemption is. It's a 9/10 episode for me. It helps that the songs are amazing.
For me my list would be as follows:
Top 5 Best S4 & S5 episodes:
1. Pinkie Pride (10/10)
2. Crusaders of the Lost Mark (9/10)
3. Amending Fences (9/10)
4. Maud Pie (9/10)
5. Twilight's Kingdom (8/10)
Top 5 Worst S4 & S5 episodes:
1. Rainbow Falls (4/10)
2. Princess Spike (4/10)
3. What About Discord (5/10)
4. Somepony To Watch Over Me (5/10)
5. Daring Don't (5/10)
I know how much you hate Power Ponies, but that episode got me into the fandom, and made me start watching the show
Josh is dead inside, confirmed, for that Crusaders of the Lost Mark score.
In all seriousness, though, I think you might have missed the point of the episode. Yes, the foreground focus was on Diamond's redemption arc, but that wasn't actually the main goal of the episode. It was to show the journey of the Crusaders, and that they are willing to help both sympathetic characters like Pipsqueak as well as to help their worst enemy to date, instead of giving in to spite or enjoying her downfall, which is a more common tendency. It was a perfect (and perfectly hidden until in retrospect) buildup to the moment that fans had been waiting for several seasons, and then capped that off with a retrospective that just hit all of the Max Feel buttons.
While it might be nice if Diamond's redemption had a bit more buildup, that probably also would have ruined the point of the mid-episode reveal (and a couple of awesome songs). It's also simply amazing to take a character that most thought was completely irredeemable at this point and just totally turn that around in an instant.
What's a real shame is that they haven't followed this up, perhaps showing her backsliding into her old ways before bringing herself out of it again, or exploring the new dynamic between her and Silver Spoon. Other than one or two background cameos she hasn't appeared at all since this episode; I guess the writers just don't know what to do with her any more, which is unfortunate.
I know the feeling.
Mirality yeah, I give it a 3 out of 10
Mirality that episode sucked
"I think this episode should be reviewed by Linkara rather than Brony reviewers".
Or both. Both is good.
In a collab maybe?
Please?
My Favorite S4 Episode: Twilight’s Kingdom(almost picked Pinkie Pride)
My Worst S4 Episode: Rainbow Falls(…yep…)
My Favorite S5 Episode: Amending Fences
My Worst S5 Episode: What About Discord(I like the review you and Goldenfox did.)
Who was that speaking in Animal Crossing animalese?
Actually, I think it was just generic "TV cartoon telephone" noise.
Discord and Mess? Kinda fits 😂
1:41 Oh hi, random pony
Totally with you on wanting Linkara to review this. When I reviewed it myself, I felt that the comic homage actually fell just as flat as the Spike development, but since I have no major comic background, I'm not the guy to confirm that.
I think that really is the clincher; if you're not already into superheroes or comics, particularly those from the Golden or Silver Ages, a lot of the story beats and tropes may just fly over your head. (And for the record, I think Spike was one of the best parts of that episode.)
Again, while I'm no expert, my problem was that I felt your comment applied to the episode's writers. I may not know much about comics, but I know that most of these tropes aren't actually a thing in comics, or at least they haven't been for ages.
For season 5 finale part 2. I was expecting a 1 or 3 in there. But that’s fine
"...if you hadn't snuck out like you did, I might not have figured that out."
*NO.* Way you cenemt your destructive message, Somepony to Watch Over Me.
2:57-2:58 two seasons chart and ratings
Whooooo another one "yay"
The fucking Shivering Isles reference.
I don't know about you, but I want to know _what_ Discord would do if he met Sheogorath.
Sheogorath would kill you for trying to grow a beard in his domain. Plus, Sheogorath is _actually insane._
Your top 5 Worst and Best list here is nearly identical to mine.
6:16 Top 10 Anime Crossovers
6:17 Linkara! :D
Whoa! Hello again. :-)
Awesome :D
It seems like you should do the worst list first, so that you end on a high note. IMO.
6 and 7 please
Hmm, I've noticed that up until "No Second Prances" came out, a lot of the episodes that other people really hated I've only been rather indifferent towards. I mean, I hated "No Second Prances" because it got to me personally in all the wrong ways. I guess the other episodes just didn't hit me personally enough.
I actually love power ponys. If you just go along with the ride. I loved the references and the mane-ic (thats how you spell it right?) My favorite was fluttershy. Besides im a sucker for slapstick. The goons suffering made me laugh.
I just realised my sister would be Celestia and I would be luna.
You're always taking shots from folks who JUST DON'T GET THE JOKE!!!
And *don't* call me "Puddin'."
1:02 How does Twilight Time retcon "The Show Stoppers" again?
I'm guessing it has something to do with the CMC's unique talents.
Gregory Cassella well it's possible the talents just's happens to be discovered but it's a side hobby instead of their actual unrealized talents. They were never sure whether or not these were their actual ones in the first place.
1:05 lost it there
the last pony video
6-7!
1:37 it's both! XD
Bruh, you did not just give Crusaders of the Lost Mark a 6/10...
Pony Stuff your right, he should have given it a 3 out of 10
Pony Stuff it sucked
It's Weird Al Yankovic in My Little Pony.
That's all that's needed to make it a 10/10
Troubleshoes does make sense, he realized his life's dream, what he wanted to do, was to be in the rodeo, which is what his cutie mark was. If you look, the gate into the rodeo has an upside down horseshoe over it.
As to Rainbow Falls, yeah that ep as a whole was utter crap, (hell it is still the only episode that made me want to say "Pinkie, just SHUT UP!" she was that damn annoying.) but what annoys me is how anytime anyone wants to rag on the Wonderbolts, this is always what they bring up, when even in this you admitted that ep fucked over EVERYBODY it touched. But only the 'bolts get treated like this was normal for them.
Still, great list, and yeah, those were some freaking AMAZING eps in there.
The wonderbolts get flak because they are the ones who caused the conflict and get too easily forgiven for it.
