  • Do you have birds or critters in your dryer vent? Learn how to safely remove them and prevent them from ever coming back, all for just a $6 repair. This is a simple DIY project that anyone can do.
    #birds #dryervent #diy
    Don't have access to a leaf blower? 1) Try using a shop vac or, if you have to, a regular vacuum. 2) Gather up the flexible duct hose and toss it. Putting a new hose in costs about $8. With the old hose gone completely, it should be much easier to push anything out that is in or near the exhaust portion. Plus, sometimes it's easier just to start fresh.

    I'm not sure how dumb a question this is. Is there a possibility of the bird entering the dryer through the dryer vent? I had a bird in my dryer vent, but it almost seemed like it was in the dryer itself. I made some loud noises and turned on the 'air fluff' feature on my dryer, which ran for 20 mins. Now I'm not sure if the bird flew away or it got trapped inside the dryer. Worried

  • @thehappytexan
    @thehappytexan 3 роки тому +2

    Just FYI, iirc code says any kind of cover is not allowed on dryer vents and the vent must have 12 square inches of opening. So a typical 3x5 vent would be in spec.

    I have been having a similar problem. However my washer and dryer are one the top floor. I have no way of reaching it from the outside of my home to attach any cage. Any tips on what I should do?

    • @LRN2DIY
      @LRN2DIY  3 роки тому

      I would see if you could put a small screen in the end of the hose near the wall from your laundry room. It might have to be a bit hacky but if it works then that’s something. Ideally either you or someone else would be able to access that outer area with ladders/scaffolding but if course you work with what you’ve got.

    • @barrygrant2907
      @barrygrant2907 3 роки тому +1

      Hire a professional to clean the vent line. There really is no other resolution. Have the pro clean the dryer also. You'll be amazed at how much lint build up in inside a dryer. Screens, critter cages, etc., all trap lint and cause blockages, which is probably your problem now. Screens and such are often a code violation and fire hazard.

    The nest I found in my old home oh boy! I didn't notice until it smelled like birds in my dryer. My laundry room was located on 2nd floor. I used a shop vac and a leaf blower. The exit was located on deck. Was fortunate that entire nest with 3 alive birds barely have feathers all intact. Momma never returned to retrieve nest full of babies.
