That or a bulkhead fitting, this is exactly what they are made for, easily sourced on Amazon, just pick your size. I have used these for years on my company's lawn spray truck rig drop tanks.
Instead of weed cloth, I would just cut up an old bed sheet. I would also not cut a hole in the middle but just poke it into the net cup. I think it would do just fine
@@thehazelnutspreadnahahaha my family has grounded me from goodwill for that very reason! I’m planting every single flower I have this year in stuff I already have around house. Was thinking about using sheets doubled up as grow bags, but can’t figure out how to keep them from getting moldy. I’m in the Midwest - rain and horrible humidity
extravagant, time consuming and costs a bit for all that versus just using a cotton wick from the plant root burried to the bottom which is a thousand times simpler and cheaper.
I drilled it just below the level of the shelf inside the bucket. You want to get as much water into the reservoir as you can, but not so much that it starts to saturate the dirt sitting on the shelf. The idea is to have the water wick up into the dirt from the hole in the middle of the shelf instead of flooding the dirt at the shelf level.
Yes, it works pretty well for most plants, although if you use it for a tomato plant, you have to pay more attention to water and fertilizer because tomato plants usually have a big root ball and need a lot of food in a small container like a 5 gallon bucket.
I don't know if mosquito net would be strong enough to hold the dirt up out of the water in the bottom of the bucket. It would probably sag too much with the weight of the dirt.
I see so many of these versions on the net. But THIS is the original. And is cleaner. Thanks. I might try this now.
The best video I've seen so far got this type of planting. Thank you
Thanks for your comment!
Great job looks really well made
Thank you. Very clear instructions.
wonderful idea. thank you.
Very good
Thanks. I just started growing things in Portland, Oregon. This is very helpful.
I really need to check my video comments more often!
I'm glad you found this old video useful!
Marijuana hah 🤭
Use silicone caulk to seal the tube or O rings to seal he tube. Very simple!

Ingenious!!
Great system!

Yes, I would imagine that an old bed sheet would work, especially if you have an old one to use.
@@amberyooperNever throw out anything that can be repurposed.......some day

Of all of the videos on this subject, this is the best I’ve seen! Thank you. Where do you get those little plastic pots you put in the bottom? 🌸
I bought them at a gardening store that carries hydroponics gardening supplies
They are called net cups for Hydroponic growing
@@claudeloi Yes, thank you!
Awesome
Use sealant for aquariums for the external filler pipe. it's safe for fish.
try using a heat gun to melt down the bucket then add you tubbing
The part that is leaking - have you tried silicone? Just curious before I go buy some to try it lol.
Use a rubber Grommet to stop leaking
Waterproof sealer
👌💙💙🧡
U might be able to use a rubber garment
I wish you luck, if we don't add peat. How about we add only red soil? Does this system work
This system works best if the soil is loose. Adding vermiculite or pearlite helps with that if you don't use peat.

Hey, if that works for you, great! More power to you.
How far up did you drill your drain hole?
I drilled it just below the level of the shelf inside the bucket. @@amberyooper thank you so very much. I do appreciate you getting back with me on this.
Dose it work ?❤❤

@@amberyooper ok thank you for the great information I m going to try this ?
3:46 sir, can we use mosquitoes net instead?
I don't know if mosquito net would be strong enough to hold the dirt up out of the water in the bottom of the bucket. It would probably sag too much with the weight of the dirt.
@@amberyooper ohhh. But sir, the net is plastic.
Not true. I have 13 tomato plants in 5 gallon buckets cut in half and they are doing great.
I'm sure they will do quite well as long as you keep them fed and watered.
@@amberyooper juice bottle drip irrigation and regularly feeds. I had 10 ft tall tomato plants.
Can you tell me more about this and how to set it up? I’d like to try it and this gentleman’s way both :)
