Walking in Stanton

  • Walking down from the The Mount Inn, which serves a very fine
Charcuterie board, and towards the village where children trot by on horseback. There is a beautiful view from the top of the hill that seems to take in a paradise world of trees and Cotswold stone cottages.
Stanton is quite close to Broadway and it can, at times, be heavily frequented by tourists. It is not surprising as this is a particularly lovely village that cuts through a particularly lovely part of the country.
This is more of a short passing through than a thorough look at the village. it was about noon and there was a lot of activity with people repairing some of the houses. The trouble with older houses, often overlooked, is that they need a lot more maintenance than new-builds. There's often someone up a ladder dealing with the thatched roofs or a collapsing chimney.

It is great to see the kids riding around town. Horses are such amazing animals. Most of the buildings in Stanton would have seen many horses. If we could only travel through time. I love the stonework, as you walk through the town. There are some wonderful gardens. I understand your comments about older homes. However, it is nice that most people in the UK keep these older buildings. The architecture is outstanding. It is so classic. We have someone building a new boathouse and soon a new home down the road. They are spending a great deal, but the style is too modern for me. Thanks again for a wonderful tour.

I understand. I feel exactly the same way. There is some wonderful modern architecture and some beautiful new buildings... But there is something about older styles in general and stone cottages in particular that just kind of tugs at the old heartstrings. I think it is the very fact they are not perfectly symmetrical, that they feel organic and part of the land they are part of. You see some beautiful modern building and it usually looks like it might have been left on Earth by visiting aliens. Or maybe I've just seen too many of a particular type of science fiction film.

@@jagoturner The church in Iceland that you included was a great example of Modern Architecture with incredible design. The building was positioned perfectly at end of the street and will be a monument for future generations to enjoy. Unfortunately, too often this is not the case and the design is really transient. Thanks again for a great video tour. I hope that you have a great after and weekend.
