  • In this several days project I have fixed a Mercedes W220 with several Airmatic system issues. These include a leak in the Airmatic valve assembly, leak on top of one of the strut and fixing of the compressor to produce better compression for the system.
I did a lot of research using Mercedes documents for the vehicle, which I have compiled into these videos.
Since the repair, I have been running the vehicle for several months and the system has been performing well with no issues. The overall cost was minimal for all my fixes as I didn't just replace the components randomly. I hope these notes will help you fix any Airmatic related issues on your Mercedes.
There are in total around 8 parts to the notes. Please allow some time for me to be able to share all the notes with you.

Thank you for donating your time and effort to make these videos regarding the air compressor and components. I watched all four of them and found them to be very informative. I will be using this information to assist my son with repairs to his vehicle.

The more of your videos I watch, the more surprised and impressed at your thorough mechanical, technical, and electronic dexterity, not to mention the practically perfect, speech English diction. We'll catch you at London Shakespeare Centre, in, shall we say two weeks?
    :p

Thank you very much! Great video. My air shocks need replacing and I wanted to be able to start the car without having the pump and wearing it out by running all of the time. Btw, that relay is also on the drivers side on American S series. I have no diagram and no O is marked on the top. The top is numbered 538.The layout in the fuse box is different on mine from the ones you showed,. but it is the third one down counting from the windshield and the same part # as you said and manufactured by Siemens. Anyway, I now can start and run the car as long as I want without wearing out the pump, thanks to you!

If you have left hand drive the relay is located on the passenger side fuse box.

Hi i have a w211 RHD and the relay is under the bonnet right hand side just outside the fuse box. However I cannot locate the fuse for airmatic pump. Can you please help. It would be so greatly appreciated.

Fuse box is on the left side of the car. When you open the door, look for a panel with an air duct. The panel is covered by the door once it's closed. The fuse is a 15a fuse. There will be a paper diagram folded next to all the fuses. Look at the diagram. It's halfway down the right side.

The diagram clearly shows where it goes, position O, righthand side fuse box under the hood. He keeps referring to the driver's side, but that's on a righthand drive car. He should be referring to the right side of the car as it's on the passenger side of a lefthand drive car.

Hi, if your car is a right hand drive car (i.e. UK for example) then it is the driver side fuse box under the bonnet.

When one gets old the semens tend to slow down and eventually just stop doing their job. Go electric..
