I’m 52, but with autoimmune it feels like I’m in my 90’s. Ren gave music back to me. I couldn’t stand the music that was popular. Actually, I never could stand popular music. Ren has become my hobby. I’ve lost all my others due to my illness. He has become my life. ❤️🤓
Ren was misdiagnosed for 6-8 years as having bipolar, depression, and anxiety, and mismedicated, while also being diagnosed with ME/CFS, which was due to undiagnosed Lyme Disease and Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAS) which left him allergic to all foods but meat and about 5 vegetables. He was correctly diagnosed in Belgium in 2015 or 2016, and was lucky enough to receive a stem cell treatment in 2016 that took him from bed-ridden to able to resume making music. He's currently in Calgary, Canada receiving further treatments.
His experiences and musical ability have made real connections with fans who suffer chronic mental and physical illness. This song has a lot to do with his sense of helplessness during his health journey, and a demand that medicine start putting people over profit.

I'm older... 56, but Renegades are of all ages, and the thing that has unified many of us is Ren shining a light on chronic illness. Millions of us live with constant pain, depression, anxiety, so many chronic conditions. Ren is a young lad (to me!) but I had chronic arthritis when I was 12, and I identify with growing up disabled and constantly adjusting to the 'new normal' and shaping life round health instead of living the life you want to live.
A generation can't separate my affinity for Ren and his art.

Ren became ill, was misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue, bipolar disorder etc. This went on for years getting worse and worse except for small improvements when he’d start a new treatment, then the pain an illness would re-emerge. he would exhaust the normal or main stream treatment pathways and began trying anything and everything. eventually, he suffered a psychotic break from the stress and pain. Finally, he went. I think it was to Germany to a specialist who, within minutes of speaking to him told him he thought he had Lyme’s disease. Ren is still receiving treatments, but he’s vastly improved.
It was a doc from Belgium that finally diagnosed him with Lyme
Check out literally any of Rens stuff... including The Big Push (band he and friends were part of), Sam Tompkins (good one to start with is Blind Eyed, Ren & Sam collab), Ren & Chinchilla "Chalk Outlines". One of his newest that I really like is his "Seven Sins" lyric video. It's as if he explains pain so well, sometimes people that do not live with chronic pain really have no idea how bad it can be. Trying to explain to a friend, relative or even to my doctor is not easy, if they also suffer then they get it. But most people may never know and they should be very very grateful.
REN isn’t scared to hit any topic. He had some excellent up beat tracks too! He has a wicked sense of humour and is genuinely authentic and speaks for the forgotten souls ❤

Ren talks about a lot of the hard stuff that he thinks is destroying the human race, but if it's not talked about we can't fix it... that's why he'll never sign a label again, he doesn't want to be restricted in his art. Jenny & Screech is 13 min that feels like 2, they're a little rough to hear but worth it!! Power is my go to pump-me-up song, but I really recommend his Million Subscriber speech - it's not what you'd expect.

He had Lyme Disease that was misdiagnosed for 10+ years! So they gave him medication that he didn't need and effed up his brain. He had to go to Calgary, Canada to get Stem Cell transplants daily! He is slowly himself again. Even when he was sick he still was making music! He's amazing! ❤

When people say Ren has changed my life, I whole heartedly can say I’ve never had a musician change my mindset so much for the better. It’s genuinely like someone unstitched my eyes.

Great reaction! Just subbed to you. Ren's last 4 drops are all different. I think it's a better idea to see his more recent drops then back to older ones, which are great. The new tracks might get you more views. I have Ren's Sick Boi album. I definitely listen to most of the tracks in the car. This one included.

Did you miss the beginning? Ren was bitten by a tick. Until diagnosed (10 yesrs ) he remained in the house for 10 years. If you know anything about ticks he's fought for his life many times & still does. He goes to Canada every month for stem cell injection s & can't remember all the rest. You haven't even touched on the instruments he plays, man I can't even justifiably tell all that is Ren. Can't imagine what would have transpired within the 10 years. Hi Ren is an example of his struggle with the side effects of ticks & medications & will for the rest of his life. You know that he is not signed with any record label. He does it all along with his friend Sam who films videos. He also has approximately 6 or 7 team members. FOR HIS 1ST ALBUM, he won best album of the year in Britain. Beat many famous artists. Songs bring light to the seriousness of tick bites.
Okay, this is how rumors get started. Ren was misdiagnosed. Ren has been sick for over 10 years. He was not housebound for 10 years as you will see in the timeline of many older videos. He was bed bound for over a year. He spent loads of time in his room over the years creating. Lyme disease is painful and exhausting. Ren developed Mast Cell Activation Sydrome which means he’s allergic to “everything”. Thus, he’s incredibly limited on what he can consume. I don’t think we’ll ever see a fat Ren. As with most chronic illness there are good and bad days. On good days he could function. I know it was painful and exhausting (I’ve been sick for almost 20 years). He has had 2 stem cell transplants. He has been living in Canada for going on 1.5 years. It was originally supposed to be 4-6 months. He goes to clinic 5 days a week for IV treatments. He has come to terms with the fact that he’ll always battle this, but his situation is much improved. Sick Boi is not his first album. Freckled Angels, and Demo’s volume 1 & 2 came before. Dude, I quit, my body is really hurting and I can’t correct all of this. Sorry. 😉❤️✌️

Was the most important line, I believe, in the whole song to help it all make sense. I wish that you would have been able to see that one. It makes things click much better. There’s a very in-depth comment (written beautifully by @bethosbornefischer3315) near the top of the comments (atm) describing how he was misdiagnosed for years, intolerance, stem cell treatments, etc. That comment needs to be pinned at the top because it’s so thorough and gives you the information and insight you need to continue your REN journey. ☺️🫶🏼
