  • Centuries of war have honed the Kelgians into the galaxy's fiercest warriors. Yet, on a backwater planet, a Kelgian raiding party triggers the one species they never should have provoked: humans. Underestimated and presumed soft, humans possess a latent fury born from millennia of internal battles. When pushed too far, the Kelgians discover that there's something uniquely terrifying about humans… when humans truly get mad.

Why would the Terran commanders just leave a hostile force near a population center. Transforming them was... well... what purpose does it serve? Then dismissing them too? I mean humans are dangerous to humans at the very least.
Instead of detaining them and trying them for crimes against that village, they just dismissed them and let them wander unchecked towards a civilian population center?
Humans of this world are grossly incompetent. Seriously. No other explanation.

Well, that was different than most of the stories I’ve listened to. Was sort of expecting them to wake up in a medical psych facility strapped to a bed, where the humans were making them believe they had been turned human to live the life of those surviving those that they created by their invasion. Then release them with a new profound perspective of their actions and eventually change the course of their own race’s practices. Well written! Made me listen to the whole story to find out the ending!

I take it these future humans had forgotten the concepts of fumigation or having a cat around? What do you do when you find that unknown vermin have damaged something. Do you develop a loss of confidence or a supernatural dread? No you fumigate. If your story is going to lynch pin on a huge blind spot or seemingly rational action it needs to be explained why this thought process or action didn't happen. Especially if it is humans behaving in an unhumanlike manner. This story reads like it was AI written and maybe polished up by a human. It would be an unusually good AI effort but still just sort of pushed together without making much sense as AI writing tends to do.

From an effective writing perspective, not every noun, not every verb requires a modifier. Similarly, not every scene requires a lengthy (in some cases overblown) description. Brevity and simplicity can actually have a greater impact, and allows the reader to apply their own imagination.

"Sab-o-tage" early 20th century French. In the early 20th century, on the planet Earth, workers who felt their livelihood threatened by automation flung their wooden shoes, called 'sabots' into the machines to stop them.
"Re-sist-ance" Latin: Resistere (to hold back) ---> French Resistance.
I find it odd that resistance via sabotage would be new to humans.

Yeah, weird you would turn your enemy to look like you and then just set them free, with access to things allowing them to commit sabotage, and yet only these two aliens had the realization to commit such sabotage. What about the other "humans" where they were, how many of them were their former brethren?

So they came and conquers and got turned into humans and left to live out there lives? So its a story about 2 xenos that came to conquer humans and failed. Interesting but really weird. Not main characters that i actually care for or even like. I did listen to the whole story but it was out of curiosity. Its like the main character eas just coping and telling himself that he made his mark. And thats all he cared about. Selfish and uncaring, and well annoying really. Its a bit confusing who im supposed to be rooting for here. Thinking on it isnt really making any sense. Sabotage is common in war. Humans are very good at it. Honor has no place on the battle field or combat in general. Survival and duty are the main things. Just weird really

Once is Shit Happens, Twice is coincidence, Three times is enemy action....
The humans in this story are bloody useless. Why didn't the humans in the story, knowing there were saboteurs about, have guards at the warehouse ?
The story had an interesting premise, trying to invert the usual "Indomitable Human Spirit" trope, but the execution ignores history. We grew up on news reports of terrorism and sabotage. Do you think the human military on this planet would not be prepared for it ? Hell, we don't even trust our own species. Every building and military installation is equipped with CCTV, entry alarms, 6 foot barbed wire fences, and if it's important enough, armed guards.
The ending is crap. Anti-terrorism tactics are covered in Military Tactics 101, even at our current state of space technology. I find it hard to believe it would be forgotten once we went inter stellar....
    Not your best work.. 😒
