The canonical mainline story order is Drakengard 3, Drakengard 1, Nier, Nier:Automata. Personally I'd say to just watch Drakengard 1 The Movie on UA-cam and play the rest. You can skip 3, as it's pretty janky, but I love it for the characters and story enough to warrant playing.
Only thing I hated about the ending was.... the 'good guys' defeat the 'mother' who is really the monster. And yet despite having defeated the 'worse monster', humanity still took out the 'good guys' cause they were the 'threat'. Dumb assess.....
all they knew was that a giant woman fell from a magical portal in the sky followed by a strange person riding a dragon, leading to a huge fight causing massive destruction in their city. They immediately scrambled their defenses to neutralize what seemed like a threat and blew it out the sky. All of this probably happened in a matter of minutes. they had no idea what was going on.
The original PS3 version that released in Japan was called Nier Replicant and features a young boy trying to save his sister. When they brought it here in America they made another version, calling it Nier Gestalt, featuring an older man trying to save his daughter. They thought this would work better for American audiences.
I'm sure I have this somewhat wrong but in Shi ni Itaru Aka (Drakengard manga) it's pretty much explained that Manah is a great great granddaughter (or something to that extent) of Brother One. But it is assured that Manah is not actually Brother One.
A game requiring you to beat it 47 times just to understand the ending is a garbage game. No other franchise does this. It's not cool or clever, its stupid. I stopped playing the original Nier as soon as I realized this. And I looked this video up because maybe I wanted to try the series again, but just realized how redundant it all is. Pretty sure that it was Caim and Angelus that kill the Queen Beast
can someone tell me that after i finish drakengard 1,2,3 which games of nier should i play in order
@@Naniko where does 2 fit into?
@@jihkosmos 2 aint cannon to the neir story line
@@jihkosmos 2 is just a branch of ending A.
Played drakengard when i was like 14 i never though a lot about the story .. how can i play this games now without ps3
Emulator on pc
Wait, wait... Depending on the version you play? There’s a version where the MC of Replicant is old? I’m kinda confused... What?
The original PS3 version that released in Japan was called Nier Replicant and features a young boy trying to save his sister. When they brought it here in America they made another version, calling it Nier Gestalt, featuring an older man trying to save his daughter. They thought this would work better for American audiences.
@@Naniko Worked for me, I prefer Papa Nier to Brother Nier.
Manah is one's brother i swearrrr
I'm sure I have this somewhat wrong but in Shi ni Itaru Aka (Drakengard manga) it's pretty much explained that Manah is a great great granddaughter (or something to that extent) of Brother One. But it is assured that Manah is not actually Brother One.
Destroy speakers/headphone users at 2:02 -> 2:05
Time to make use of my newly bought ps3 lol
*brother
But where in the timeline would darkenhard 3 be
Before Drakengard 1.
Thanks. That makes so much sense now
Sooo, why is there magic in NieR?
Maso, a chemical element from the Drakengard universe, was harvested from the remains of the queen beast and used to develop magic.
@@Naniko thanks 💃🏽
@@Naniko but if I understood right, its the same earth, weren't they sent to the future?
@@RobbySaiff I dont believe so, its implied (if not specifically stated) that Drakengard 1/3 take place in separate timelines/universes than Nier.
@@Naniko oh i see, and there's is 0 humans now? Not even DNA samples? This dreadful situation makes me so uncomfortable hahaha
So does it just lead into neir or does it also lead into neir automata that's what I'm wondering?
They are all part of the same overarching story. There is just a lot of time between when each game takes place.
These universes are connected ??wtf
So if Final Fantasy connected all their games together then you get something like this?
Hmm
I've played all of them. Drakengard 2 just sucks.
The traveler from Destiny was in Drakenguard?
😂😂😂
damn isekai
A game requiring you to beat it 47 times just to understand the ending is a garbage game. No other franchise does this. It's not cool or clever, its stupid. I stopped playing the original Nier as soon as I realized this. And I looked this video up because maybe I wanted to try the series again, but just realized how redundant it all is. There is a reason these games and their sequels don't sell tons. And its because its more of a chore to get the full experience that it is fun. All that said, the video did a good job. This rant isn't' directed at him.
It's certainly not a series for everyone. I appreciate the kind words regardless.
@@Naniko the video did do a good job explaining everything. just had to get that rant out and didnt want you to think it was your content that was the problem.
I agree. Just started Nier Automata and fuckin hell I was stuck for 3 hours in the prologue, not because it was hard, but you are required to play the whole thing everytime you died.
No wonder these game is so popular with weebs, they have all the time in the world to spend playing just one game and connects all the dots from various endings and shit to obtain the whole lore
@@zul2788 The dots don't connect from various endings. Only one ending is cannon from each of the games. And that's only with Drakengard 1 and 3. Drakengard 2 isn't canon at all, and Nier / Nier: Automata don't have "multiple endings" you basically just continue the story after the credits roll. It's essentially just tradition at this point.
None of this is to discredit not liking it, you're totally entitled to your own opinion and that includes not liking it. I'm just clarifying.
Theses games didn't have interesting gameplay till automata and drakengard 3.
Yeah ok so basically they are not really meaningfully related, bald giant queen monster is just as good of an excuse as any start a pandemic lol
I'm not sure where you came to the conclusion that they aren't related in a meaningful way. They are very related and the events directly tie together between Drakengard and NIER as well as plenty of other aspects within the world of NIER being explained.
I refuse to play these games.
👍
Let me get this straight. A terrible game was made that spawned more bad games. Then someone suffered through theses games then decided to trick hundreds of more people into playing these god awful games by calling them masterpieces? "Duh What is Life?" really brings in the wannabe smarties.
Yup, that about sums it up!
