Acoustic Neuromodulation - Musical

  • I've also got a music production channel / @musicprodstuff mainly Ableton Live. This track and other variations are on Spotify open.spotify.c... - and other streaming sites.
    An experiment with Acoustic Neuromodulation technique. Listen at a volume where you can hear the tones but they are not intrusive - where they don't distract your attention, they should be soft but audible.
    The tones are played in a random sequence covering every note in the musical scale from around 100 Hertz to around 10,000 Hertz.
    The principle is to give the neurons stimulation across the entire frequency range and interrupt the tinnitus. It may work for you, it may not. It's a complete experiment with sound, based on the theory of the device. It isn't a tinnitus cure but it could help to reduce the impact of your tinnitus.
    Please leave feedback, I'd love to know how it works for others, and I also would like to develop any other sounds in any way I can.
    This relatively simple sequence represents countless hours of experimentation with pure tones and neuromodulation technique.

    This is great. It neutralizes the high pitched tinnitus in my right ear. The first time I played it, I noticed it neutralized the ringing. My problem that I have had with my tinnitus is that when it rings, I focus on it and that only prolongs or intensifies it. I know that letting it go as an issue is important but I have struggled with doing that. This helps greatly because it allows me to let go of the ringing and focus on other things. I play it all the time when on my computer and I play it at night as well.
    This past week my ringing has lessened significantly. I attribute it to letting go of it with the help of this video as well as doing yoga each day for 20 minutes and acupuncture. I also bought a mini biomat and I sit on it each day. It is a heating pad that emits infra-red energy and negative ions. I had a dream that 5 healers put me on the heated biomat and covered me with many blankets and then began to swing me. So I sit in my chair with it and rock back and forth. Just wanted to share this with all of you because I have had ringing for 4 years and have dealt with all the negative emotions as you all probably can understand.

    I developed T a bit over a month ago, and I have found this to be very therapeutic. I first tried it over a week ago and found that it neutralized the tinnitus for at least a bit. I was skeptical, and the T did come back of course. Sometimes, though, I have used this when I was feeling it very much, and it has remained an effective neutralizer in times of need. I have used it as such, almost every day. Today, I used it at work when the T was acting up and forgot about the T for most of the rest of the day: neutralized in part by this therapy. So far, this has been a worthwhile part of my regimen for dealing with this. I also manage my stress (very important) and get busy with other things that can also completely distract me from the T. Thanks in part to this I am learning to, indeed, live with T and habituate myself. It doesn't remove the T but changes it to a hiss I can bear, that is much less stressful.

I dont notice ringing most of the times, but it does come and when it does it is quite noticeable. I know it is not as bad as others but the stress of me having it for life or not was taking a toll on me. I tried this video and it has helped immediately. This particular track was like finding the needle in a haystack. Very effective at reducing my pure tone tinnitus. Mine's a little complex; pure tones mixed with flutter tones and hissing. Kinda like a tiny train braking lol. But even if it's only temporary, to know there is something I can listen to that will give me relief is incredibly reassuring. If my perception is, at worst, an 8, this will bring it down to a 4. Thank you for this!

    I have tinnitus caused by fluoroquinolone antibiotics, that is a group of antibiotics which includes Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, Levofloxacin and many others. I have had quite a bit of relief, not cured, by listening to this and the 2nd variation. Thank you for posting these sounds. I went from nearly 24/7 not incredibly loud but loud enough to be disturbing, to occasional episodes that are much quieter. If you've ever taken any fluoroquinolone antibiotic that may be the cause of your tinnitus, in which case you should be very careful not to take those drugs again because they can also cause horrible pain and disability.

      need some advice if u can: I'm only using this on the right ear to regain a small hearing loss. should I perhaps do both ears at the same time?
      the left ear is fine but was wondering if they need to sync together in the brain area.

    • @TinnitusWorks
      @TinnitusWorks  10 років тому

      Alysia McAlister Hi Alysia. It doesn't try to regain a hearing loss, that's unfortunately not possible with sound. If you have a temporary hearing loss though it can still come back.
      It works by stimulating your brain and stopping neurons from mis-firing. It interrupts the tinnitus and theoretically can reduce it over time. That's the ANM theory that it's based on anyway.
      Definitely listen on both sides, keep it equal. And keep the volume so you can hear it but it isn't distracting or loud.

      ok thanks 4 respond. some of these binaural beat things say restore hearing or general healing, so now I have the tinnitus down to really really faint, no prob anymore with it, and ear is getting less hyper. I still desire to get my ear back to hearing as good as the left ear. I'd like to sing again, and with my right ear having lost some hearing, I'm not even going to sing. so this is my only shot. so even though u say it's not possible I will still give it 6 months before I agree with you.

      So for me it was highly connected with anxiety,stress and lack of nutrition. Its been a long road and very much still on it but seeing a herbalist and nutritionist to sort out my lifestyle and eating habits have all helped heal my tinnitus as well as my stomach/anxiety/stress issues. A lot of the time you will disregard stress because its built up over a life time you see it as normal but once you actually start doing the work on yourself and realising how much tension and anxiety is through the body you can start to see the route of the problem. I am no doctor myself but from my experience diving into a life focused more on wellness and well being has really helped. Also note I have been a long running musician from 16 - 28 and had my ears bashed playing live gigs , as well as Djing in loud clubs more recently so my ears have had a good old trip. I have a very slight underlying ring from this always but i hardly noticed it unless i am typing something like this and i focus on it thus where anxiety and "over sensitivity" come in to play. I believe this video helped but its all about retraining the brain and looking after your general health. Balance Balance Balance. We are all different and have to see where these root problems come from so try different things but dont worry about it too much ! thats the main thing. Obviously if its debilitating take more focused action but allow yourself time to heal. Since wrote that first comment its been 8 months and i am " free" from the bother i was having but i had to make some drastic changes to me eating habits and working / stress levels. Have a look into adrenal fatigue and b12 deficiency :) enjoy the journey xxx

    I discovered I had tinnitus almost 5 days ago. My first reaction was anxiety and depression when hearing that it could be chronic since mine was the result of listening to loud music for months. I'll try to work on my mental condition to help me with tinnitus. Thank you though , I find this really helpful for my tinnitus. After I finish the video, the tinnitus has a softer sound but quickly came back. I know this form of therapy was intended to be long term and not a "quick fix" but it's still worth a try. I'll continue to listen to it for the following weeks or months to help myself recover. I don't want tinnitus to hinder my life. I'll however also look up more effective ways to provide myself with this therapy because this type of treatment depends on your tone of the tinnitus as well

      How is it now? It's about a year and a half for me. I find that you get acclimated to it. It seems more like a buzzing to me than a ringing (most of the time). I think you can reduce it by managing your stress levels, too. The hearing loss sucks, in addition, though. And so does the hyperacusis if you have that. But life goes on and it's still great. Othe people live with chronic pain, we live with chronic buzzing or ringing.

      Yesterday it was crap, had migraine & T loud, but today I was fine with it. Routine & plenty of sleep helps, stress turns up the volume & depression turns it into a different beast all together. It feeds on your misery :-(
      I sometimes use sleeping tablets to establish routine, I hate them but they can help. I always use maskers to sleep(speaker on bed side table with with pillow speaker) & throughout the day when at home. Wearable maskers maybe something to look into.
      Try to reduce unnatural diet, keep fit, protect your ears in loud environments, use computers/tablet/tv/smartphone less at night & never before bed. Just treat your body conscientiously & it will thank you back.

    Thank you for making this! I've had tinnitus for only a couple of months. I've been experimenting with different youtube audios to play in the background while doing email, Facebook, Google, etc. I've found a few different things I like, but I keep coming back to this one. It's pleasant and musical! I've just now read many of the comments, with your instructions for how long to listen at a time, how much per day, etc. Something I'm doing does seem to be making my high-pitched screechy-ringing softer, sometimes so soft I can hardly hear it...perhaps it's this program of yours? In any case, I enjoy it, and it's wonderful to see all the comments from people who've gotten good results from it! Thanks!

    H Gavin,
    As I say in the video and the description, this is an experiment with the technique the device uses. The treatment offered by the Harley street clinic is slightly different as it has 4 tones at a Hertz value around your tinnitus played constantly.
    On the ANM clinical trial they found that many patients experienced a change in their tinnitus tone, which may be what you are experiencing. Have you had any volume reduction or difference in the tone/s you heard before you listened?

    This seems to work for me, amazingly. I developed tinnitus in July of this year and have experienced shrill high frequency sounds with a tone below. I have started to experience a lessening in the intensity of the sound, but it sometimes comes back quite badly. When I listen to this sound, and the one with the 5ths, I notice an easing of the intensity -- this is especially true after waking up in the morning where it can often be quite bad. It calms me and softens the tinnitus. It would be interesting to do a hearing test where I listen to this for 10 minutes before the test, and compare to the hearing test results without doing it. I don't think this is merely a placebo affect; there seems to be something to it. I have been seeing ear nose and throat doctor at a good hospital in Toronto but no one suggested any pain relief, or relief from the actual sound, being more concerned with the cause of it (I did a recent CAT scan and will find out soon). But these audio patterns and ones to similar to it I am finding online truly act like a type of pain reliever for the sound of the tinnitus and I am very grateful to you and other people that are experimenting in creating these patterns to help people with me and to find relief. I hope this continues to work for me and relieve or improve the symptoms as it seems to be doing in the past 2-3 weeks.

      Hi Lydia,
      That's amazing, I'm really happy to hear that it worked like this for you, fantastic news.
      I wish I could offer you some sound, research based advice but this is very much an experiment with a theory. Having said that I'm reasonably sure that I can offer a rough guide that will work:
      Listen for no more than 1 hour at a time. Each day listen for around 4 hours in total, definitely no longer than 6 hours total. Volume level should be where you can hear all of the tones clearly but they aren't loud enough to distract you, where you may able to forget about them if immersed in a task.
      You can listen to them any way you want, it's all about the most comfortable method for you, be it speakers, headphones or earphones. If you use earphones of headphones I'd advise that they are a type that don't block out external sounds or muffle your hearing very much.

    When I listened the first time I was suffering from what I call ' a rock concert'. I mean by that waking up with a noise compairable to having visited a concert of a rock band with out ear protection, while this actualy not being the case. I fell asleep with in the duration of the track. When I woke up I could not believe that it could have had the effect that it actually had. I tried again and noted that the tinnitus was (temporarily) reduced. Since then I carry an mp3 player and use the track like an 'audio APC'. I have consulted a representative company of Amplifon in my country, which has a neural audio programme. I was tested and during the test a sound frequency was roughly made to test my response to it. The tinnitus dropped immediatly like the 'audio APC' track did the first time. Next step will be to fine tune the sound. During the programm I will be regularely monitored to adjust the sound of the personalised track...would like to add text but no further space...

    I've had tinnitus ever since I can remember. It's not that loud but it can be annoying. In fact there are days where I completely forget it's even there. Today is the day the eclipse happened so I had my mind focused and a bunch of stuff as usual especially since I was thinking about the capabilities of noninvasive low intensity ultrasonic neuromodulation. It wasn't until I stumbled onto this video and read the word "tinnitus" that this annoying high pitched ringing in my ears revealed itself.

    Can you do a mirror image of this? I used this two nights in a row. The second night I used it for about an hour and when I took my headphones off I had this oscillating hissing static sound in my brain. It's been there for a month now and goes from very quiet to extremely loud, but it is always there. I think that based on the principal of spike timing dependent plasticity I've taught these neurons to continually fire in sync with one another. I've spoken to two ENT'S about this and neither believe me, they think it's just tinnitus. But what I hear now is completely different from the tinnitus I had before (which was tonal and likely due to inflamed ear canals that would have cleared up on its own). My only thought is if I can play the notes in reverse it might desynchronize the firing neurons in the other direction.

    Weird. Vey weird. After about 10 seconds it nearly eliminated about 85-90% of my tinnitus. It is now less than the volume of a hum of a light in a super quiet room. I am guessing you would have to repeat this process daily or hourly as the tinnitus returns.

      I would do it a few times but don't over-use. Do you think I can use this if I have just mild tinnitus? Also- I noticed on one comment you said to not use headphones that block out external sounds, I'm glad I read that because I assumed you should use headphones that block sound and try to focus on the sound. How do you suggest using it? Should I just play it from my computer and go about my day? or should I lay in bed/relax and listen to it? Just wondering what is the most effective way to use it. thank you so much!

      Hi Lauren - sorry only just saw your comment.
      Even though your tinnitus is mild it shouldn't make a difference. i al interested in whether it totally knocks the tinnitus away when it's milder.
      I think that the best way is to let it play as you just go about your day, or as you do something else like reading or working. Don't try and focus on it and don't listen for too long - it's the same as listening to anything over and over, not fun to get it stuck in your head.

    I've listend to this video 4 or 5 times, and it made my tinnitus worse :( I usually hear two constant fairly low-pitched tones, which are now intensified. Perhaps this video is designed to interrupt only high-pitched sounds?

    • @TinnitusWorks
      @TinnitusWorks  10 років тому +1

      Sorry to hear that. It's an experiment but not one that I imagine would make you worse - of course we all can react differently to sounds.
      Did you make sure to keep the volume down, where you can just comfortably hear the tones? It may also be the case that your tinnitus is so low pitched that it is too low for these particular tone sequences to help.
      Is it possible that your low tones are pulsatile tinnitus? No sound therapy will be of much help if that's the case.

    • @lvdhnl
      @lvdhnl 10 років тому +2

      Hi Tsounds1, no problem - I just wanted to report my experience to you. The tinnitus did go back to its usual intensity later that day. Yes, I kept the volume down. And no, I certainly don't have pulsatile tinnitus (I hear two constant tones, comparable to an organ sound made by an electronic keyboard). Both are low-pitched (I would say below 1000 hz).
      I think acoustic neuromodulation may only help when the tones or tone sequences are matched to one's individual tinnitus frequency. I am thinking about trying some kind of sound therapy, because sound is the only thing that seems to have an effect on my tinnitus (certain tones even drastically lower the pitch and also change the tone, partly, into a kind of buzzing). I'm not sure if sound therapy or neuromodulation is offered where I live though.

    • @TinnitusWorks
      @TinnitusWorks  10 років тому

      lvdhnl It's a shame, seems that this sound sequence just isn't right for you. What sort of sounds / tones help you? I can make just about anything so if you can give me an idea I'll see if I can produce something for you. Inbox me here then I'll send my e-mail to you.
      Neuromodulation is usually matched to your pitch, said to work on tonal tinnitus only. At the time of writing there isn't any robust proof but very soon the major UK study should report their findings (I think it's currently in peer review). I'm very interested to see how it all went as I can see how it can work on theory.

  • @TinnitusWorks
    @TinnitusWorks  11 років тому

    I think that your brain has to work to position all of these sounds across the frequency spectrum so it interrupts the tinnitus whilst it positions and catalogues them.
    The actual neuromodulation device is supposed to be used for 4 - 6 hours per day, but as I say this is a complete experiment with sound. I'm glad to hear that it works for somebody else.

      It's usually a bit of trial and error, seeing what works and what doesn't. My biggest piece of advice is not to listen to one particular sound for too long. When I do the sounds, I often lose the effectiveness because I have to hear things over and over when I'm creating and testing.

    Thanks! It works during the listening of the video and a bit after that.. Then when I get concoius about it, it comes back, but it isn't as "negative". Ive just herd it only for an hour though.. Could you please point me out to more information about this? it's really helping me. Thanks.
    ps. (I think I have a 8000hz tinnitus, is this similar to yours? thanks)
