I am really happy to be sharing the official drum playthrough of "Smartfriend" with you.
When we recorded the drums at Heyman Studios in Copenhagen almost a year ago I set up the cameras in the studio and filmed all the takes that we recorded. This is the take we ended up using on the album, apart from a few fills who were from one of the other takes.

no fancy camera work or filters... just pure raw awesomeness.... this is something more...this band is on a different realm... pure raw feeling and musicianship.
I love drummers that throw out the standard 2, 4 on the snare. Awesome offset beat that still drives the feel of the song!
Amazing how proper tuning can even make a cheap snare like that sound incredible.

I love looking at the biomechanics of drummers... I notice none of his “instruments” are above his shoulders so everything is coming down to the drums letting gravity do the work.. certainly notice it more with modern drummers... I’m not a drummer but I love drums!! Is this a style thing or is it a technique that’s been applied??
Oh and obviously I freaking love this band!!!!
I had a similar thought process but you’ve analysed it wonderfully. I thought it’s really weird how low his cymbals are, like it must be hard to lay into them but despite that he does it perfectly.
To me this is a kit set for the music.

Adam Janzi reminds me of one of the fighters from the movie Bloodsport. Love the (would you call it legato?) on those crash cymbals. Nicely done man!
