Oliver's story is amazing. Benny Johnson did a little compilation about Oliver's rise to fame. He was trying to get sober, he had just wrote a song titled "I wanna get sober" and that night he told God "If you are real, I will get sober, help me be successful. With in 48 hours of him dedicating his life to God and getting saved. He recorded and released "Rich men north of Richmond" he did not even know it was viral because he was at work when it all went down. I hope he stays sober and writes more soul touching songs. Oliver loves Hank Williams and it shows in his style of singing.

You're right. This resonates, period. 17 million views in 8 days. Oliver played a gig at a farmers market a month ago and 20 people came. 48 hours after this video was released, he played there again and 1,000 people came. When he sang this song, everyone sang along.
He put out a statement addressing what's happened since this song went viral and shared his heart. In it he gives info on his life and background and talks basically about how he doesn't want fame. He was offered $8 million dollars by the music industry and turned it down. He is most certainly a humble man and a reluctant folk hero. I watched a video today where they read aloud his full statement. The more I learn of this young man and hear his thoughts, the more impressed I am with him.
Anyone who complains about this song just outed themselves as your enemy.

Very few times in my life have I heard a song that captures the point and time. I work a full time job, go to school part time, operate a farm, and own 3 rental properties. I'm more broke now than when I started. This song resonates well with me. Last year, we were so broke we were boiling a single whole chicken along with rice to survive the winter financially. People at the store pulling out EBT cards had their carts full of junk food. I was angry when I noticed that. I was angry wondering why work so hard just to pay 50k a year in taxes, support multiple households, feed others, and I can barely afford to feed my own family at the end of that. Thank you for understanding that these issues are not political. The rich men north of richmond emphasizing dividing people that would otherwise love each other just fine without their meddling.
