Everything about the video was helpful. I would like to add that if you have a gen 1 with a, o-my-God tight barrel nut....use barrel vise, with one 14”pipe wrench at base of barrel and a 24” pipe wrench on barrel nut. Use CAUTION..... it does leave a small amount of wrench marks on the base of barrel, in my case I was done with the barrel, 3000 rounds. Swapped for a Proof Research, Carbon Fiber Barrel. Barrel nut took it very well. This was not my plan A or B,C,D but did work for me.
Great vid! I have a feeling that I'll probably need to do this later down the road for my 6.5 CM. I live in Fort Worth, so I might take the trip out to San Antonio to get this done one day!
I have a question but first i want to comment on your great video. A+ for being concise. anyhow, can I upgrade my 6mm creedmoor Ruger Precision Rifle to a 6.5mm Creedmoor by replacing the barrel?
Ok, I tried this last night.. with a barrel vice (same as yours) as well. I could not break the barrel nut off.. this may sound dumb but when you broke yours loose you lifted up and "tightened" the nut to the receiver to get it loose? yes receiver spun but that confuses me more. In other videos like snipershides they loosen the nut from the receiver to break it? What way do I turn this stupid barrel nut? It's still on the shoulder of the barrel from ruger and it's TIGHT and it's also up against the receiver? I didn't use a breaker bar but I'm a 260lb powerlifter and I couldn't budge it with a decent wrench and vice. please help, thanks Steve
I'm having th r same issue. What did you do to remove the nut? I have broken wrenches and a few teeth are broke off on the barrel nut and it still hasn't moved
Hello, great information. Curious about the long range performance with the 18" barrel. Lot's of information out there about running a 24" to get the longer powder burn for the 6.5. Is the 18" barrel performing well over 1000 yards?
I am getting 2650 FPS running H4350 and Berger 130 VLD hunting, I have to taken it out to 1000 yards with no issues. My 1000 yard correction is 9.0 mils but my wind corrections are the same as my buddies who are running the 24" barrels. I am very happy with this barrel and we are working on a review video now for it!!
I am looking forward to the review. I just picked up a RPR and plan to upgrade the barrel in the next month or 2. I plan to run the Hornady 140gn ELD. H4350 is sold out everywhere I call. (live in Las Vegas) but IMR 4350 is readily available. I do not want to run a 24" barrel if I do not have to so I will keep an eye out for your update.
They ARE turning the barrel nut the wrong way. It jams against the action, so to take it off you turn it so that it moves away from the action. Piece of cake if you do it properly.
Hmm. Another video shows the barrel nut being turned the opposite direction to loosen the action, which actually makes more sense. Clarification needed. Did I just snap my barrel nut because of editing?
Dude! Way to get to the point! A 5 minute video instead of a 65 minute video. Thanks for the details on torque.

Didn't look like a torque wrench was used when you torqued the barrel nut to "about 60 ft lbs". You must have a finely calibrated elbow.
+2whl4re the torque wrench footage didn't come out so we had to cut it
LOL

I put a 24 inch bull barrel in 6.5 creedmoor on my ar10. It's real heavy, but the accuracy is incredible.

They do not show or explain a single step in the process.
@@spraynpray Five years later I figured it out it’s very easy
Great vid, thanks....followed your directions exactly and the barrel nut teeth snapped. Nut never budged.
I'd punch someone in the face if I was you Wesley.
I'm having th r same issue. What did you do to remove the nut? I have broken wrenches and a few teeth are broke off on the barrel nut and it still hasn't moved
Don't you need like at max 40 ft lbs of torque on the barrel to not mar the receiver
great vid thanks

Cant get my barrel nut out of the midwest .... wtf is there some trick?? Ive removed the screws

How do you like the Mad Scientist brake? Comparable/better than the APA LB2?
+mellowfellow7 I have shot both and the mad scientist takes just as much recoil away but it seems to be a little nicer to the guys shooting near you
hows the new barrel shooting
Matt, what type of bolt knob are you utilizing on your RPR? Also thx for the vids and keep up the good work.
+Bobby Gonzon is this video I have the titanium gun parts drake install on the RPR. You can get them from anarchy outdoors!
Long Range Shooters of San Antonio is that the dragon scale shirt or long? or acorn finish?
I have that same shirt !!!
What barrel contour did u use? Medium palma?
+REDMANKLAN yes medium Palma
Why would you want to replace a barrel on a high dollar value rifle to begin with?
A hand lapped stainless barrel will probably be more accurate than a chrome lined hammer forged barrel
Eventually you shoot a gun enough and you need to replace the barrel, no different than changing tires on a car
This process looks nerve wracking, however its worth it
This video is deceiving it's much harder to get the barrel nut off than it shows here
Thats one b!tchin boom box!
Agree with NOYFB audio needs help or maybe stop mumbling.
This video is terrible and doesn't show anything about the process. Just take it down.
Your mom.
