- Angelica A. was iron deficient and started getting symptoms of exhaustion, irregular bowel movements, heavy periods, and bloating. She then noticed blood in stool but did not immediately suspect cancer. She eventually went to the emergency room after feeling too exhausted to eat and was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer.

I had Colon cancer two yrs ago and had a big tumor had to have surgery. It was stage 2B Then two months after that surgery I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and 7 months after the first surgery I had to have a radical hysterectomy. That was stage 1A
But happy to say I'm now cancer free!!

I don’t think we push through symptoms because we are ignoring the warnings. For me it’s because when I tell a doctor they just brush it off and say everything is fine.

Exactly, and it’s precisely what happened at the emergency department. “We can’t put everyone thru the scanner…” why TF not when someone shows up and they have baffling symptoms. Can’t and WON’T are two very different approaches. I get what she is saying, but if she hadn’t pushed for Justice in her case, been her own advocate, this video would be her husband telling us why he lost his wife.
And one other thing, her saying that we bring this in to ourselves is ridiculously offensive. Explain that to the parent of a baby with brain cancer. It really bothered me!

There were many doctors here that suffered late stage cancers , most of them said that the pain was just like annoying pain.

Cancer is the sneakiest most evil disease. Your story proves it again! It hides for YEARS in otherwise completely healthy people. It’s truly a curse. Such a blessing you are now cancer free Angelica. May you have the long healthy life you deserve.

Actually, many, many diseases "sneak up" on humans. Not just cancer.
And some cancers go into remission. A lot of diseases don't.

@@abhilashrout7708 it was so early they didn’t even tell me, and I didn’t think to ask. At age 50, same month I turned 50, had my first colonoscopy. They found a cancerous polyp, major surgery to remove it because I had to have an iliostomy. 3 months later they took the iliostomy down, so another surgery. They said if it had been even a few millimeters lower, the iliostomy would have to have been permanent. So people need to make sure to get colonoscopies! It caught mine early, and saved my life.

Wonderful video and so helpful to others by helping them know they should not feel shame for gosh sake. I’ve been through a lot with medical mental health stuff and getting help for disabilities. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in juni '18 at 53 years old. For many months before that I was also exhausted and if I told people, they said ; it's normal, you get older. Then my bowel movements get different, with diarrhia and obstipation on and off. One day there was a big plonge of blood in the toilet and that moment I knew there was something serious wrong and I said to my two sons, I think I have bowelcancer. I get to the doctor and she made an appointment for a colonoscopy. 3 weeks later after that I got my diagnose, stage 3 . Honestly, I was very relieved because I was thinking, if I have to live the rest of my live this exhausted, there is no fun anymore. The tumor was 6 cm long and was grown outside my sigmoid almost touching my uterus. They took almost all my sigmoid out and also all my lymfnotes in my belly. Chemo and radiation before and after the operation. Luckely till now, I am cancerfree but I have to go for ct-scan and blood analyses every 6 months.
My husband had a story like yours at age 54. He was cancer free the rest of his life and died of natural causes at nearly 82. His was Duke stage 3C. There was a huge duodenal tumor and the lymph nodes in his abdomen were cancerous, but the cancer hadn’t spread; if it had, it would have been stage 4. He had chemo weekly for a year and had a prognosis of dying in about a year if he hadn’t had that type of chemo. Going to Duke Medical Center saved him. All of those years ago, things went quickly. Colonoscopy on Tuesday, surgery on Thursday, oncologist in two weeks, and then a visit to Duke for a second opinion on the treatment.

Everyone I know who has had cancer discussed how tired they get. It's like a beyond normal tired.
@@eggbenedict-gt7mw there was maybe since a long time blood in my stool, but I didn't notice it at the time.(whose looking at their stool so closely? 🙂) But just before the diagnose, one day I was on the toilet and a splash of red fresh blood came out, without any stool. At that point I knew there was something serious wrong and made an appointment with my doctor. So to speak, I'm saved by that one event!
So glad you came out stronger than before. You looked confident and happy in photos..wouldn’t have guessed you didn’t have a connection to yourself or know who you were etc.? The support you had from family would be great to hear about too as that has much to do with one’s ability to “Rewrite “ their “Story”. DId it impact your marriage, your making changes in how you felt about yourself? Thank you for being so specific about everything “Bloating” and “exhaustion”…so important that you gave those specific descriptions about people’s comments at work and those afternoon “Naps” and also the iron pills etc. Also that blood work was normal and what you felt contributed to getting the cancer.

My soon to be 90 year old mum was diagnosed last Friday with a recurrence of her colon cancer. Found because she was anaemic too. I pray that when her time comes, she dies with cancer, not of cancer. Though not for many, many years.

Thank you for sharing your story, Angelica. I just want to say something about 'family history' since you mention that your grandmother had stomach cancer. That IS 'family history'. I lost my twenty years old daughter to colon and liver cancer, inherited from her father ( who died at 42) and a grandmother w. stomach cancer. I did a lot of research and spoke with many specialists in Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer because I was told by local GI doctors that you can't have colon cancer at such a young age and refused colonoscopies to my children after their dad died. All my other 3 children were checked after my 20 years daughter passed and all of them had polyps, benign with the same prognosis to become cancerous. They continue to be checked now every 3-5 years. By the GI specialist this 'colon' cancer can expand anywhere in the body, mostly from the mouth to the annus (GI track), as well as in any other parts of the body. For your children sake check them when time comes!
There are hereditary cancer conditions such as Lynch syndrome that your children should consider getting tested for- it’s very helpful to know genetic status

Thank you for sharing your story. At 34 yrs old I had blood in my stool and irregular movements. I kept making appointments with my doctor and complaining soo they scheduled a colonoscopy and found 2 large polyps one in my large intestine and one in my lower intestine. The Dr said I went in on time as both polyps 100% would’ve eventually turn into cancer. You are correct, you know your body and when you feel off. Wishing you lots of love and happiness.

I will shout from everywhere and anywhere…exhaustion is a symptom and listen to your body. That is exactly why I went to the doctors and said the exhaustion is out of control and I can’t take it anymore.

Thank you for sharing your story, and god bless you!! I found part of your testimony very interesting. You briefly mentioned that you think the iron supplements speeded up your cancer progress. I have anemia too and IBS, and wonder if I need to see a GI specialist to rule out and potential issues
This video makes me nervous. I've been diagnosed with IBS. But I had my first iron fusion 1.5 year. I was confused because I was like, how can that even happen, I eat so many iron rich food. Did the fusion anyway. Don't have much of an appetite. Been feeling really nauseous lately and my stomach and bowl movements have been different lately. Got a referral to a gastronologist, has the colonoscopy booked but got made redundant so I cancelled it because I need the savings money for my mortgage but now I'm going to reschedule after watching this video.

I ignored 3 years of “blood in stool” tests as I didn’t feel anything, till I had to do my 3 years colonoscopy in which they found a tumor the size of a ping pong ball. The weeks before the shock, I was getting just tired, but that was it. Successful surgery , no metastasized organs, preemptive chemo for 4 cycles and my first post chemo check this week. 10 x 6 monthly tests to join your status as being cured.

Yup happened to me too. No pain nothing just constant constipation for over a year. So my doc recommended a colonoscopy since I am over 55. They discover 5 polyps and 1 early stage 3 cancer at the right side of my intestine. Just went in and operated last week and got discharged yesterday. The doc advised me to heal up and go for my chemo next month.
Did you also have thin narrow stools???

I'm also exhausted. My doctor took a single bloodtest and then said, nothing can be done. That was it. But I think I'm a long hauler after Covid, so fortunately that isn't life threatening.

One thing that was said multiple times by Angelica is that she had no family history of cancer. However, her grandmother had stomach cancer - that is definite family history. Furthermore, I have read that cancer can skip a generation and affect family member of same gender.
Most cancer is not caused by genetics. The genetics may be the gun, but humans pull the trigger with toxins, carbohydrates, and sugar. God bless! 💜✝️💜

I’m going through something that sounds similar, I’ve seen 5 different specialist and still no diagnosis. I’m fixing to see a gastroenterologist. You said you’re bowel had gone inside itself. Can you explain that? Your the only person I have to ask. I’ve been going through this for almost 5 years. My name is Amy Suhy. Would love to be able to talk to you. But don’t wanna be a bother either.
I was anemic at 42 and having heavy periods. My family doctor knew not to just blame it on the periods. At that time I had no family history YET. I was given an endoscopy and colonoscopy to check for internal bleeding. There was no internal bleeding- it was the heavy periods causing the anemia- BUT I did have polys which were removed at the time of the colonoscopy. The doctor said it was unusual for a 42 year old to have polys. I told my family to get checked. No one did immediately. My father wound up having stage 4 colon cancer. With treatment he was living 5 years until COVID got him at 85. My grandfather died at 94 of colon cancer before my father. My father did not get a colonoscopy even after his father died from it. My sister got checked and polys were found. My brothers have not talked about it with me. At 44 years old I was found to be pre diabetic with an A1c of 5.9. My fasting blood glucose prior to that and even when the 5.9 showed up was ALWAYS normal- like 85. DON’T only rely on a fasting blood glucose. I went low carb at 44 years old and have had blood sugars of 5.1 to 5.5 through the years since- I am now 58. I have had colonoscopies every 5 years since I was 42 and no polys have since been found since I was 42. I believe lowering my A1c eating low carb has helped. Also I got one colonoscopy without sedation since I was concerned about its effect on my cognition. It was only slightly uncomfortable. I wanted to have the colonoscopy again without sedation but couldn’t find anyone in the time frame I needed (my previous doctor had retired).
How did sedation make you feel? Would you recommend or no?
Propofol was used. I had no problem with it, but I would have preferred no sedation.
I don’t see anyone who has cancer as a failure, oh no it’s just part of life! I suspect this but not sure yet!

I have an inner voice also. My symptoms are ignored by doctors but I feel it. No one listens. Did you have a symptom that you never could empty your bowel. But had to go all the time. With different appearances of stool. Thin, thick! Runs, not, hard to go, quick pressure to go. Could not hold it from the pressure even with a small amount . Changes in color ? Feeling sick right before a movement . I’m not looking for symptoms but these are mine. Nothing black, No blood. Extreme Fatigue. But I feel I’m in a challenge .

I don't get you, who looks at someone with cancer as a failure or why couldn't it be bad luck, babies get cancer? Compassion is a fairly natural reaction too. We have a very different view of life.

Angelica mentions that there are things she did for years that contributed to her cancer. She eluded to stress, but besides that, what else contributed? Environmental factors? Diet?
All of this can contribute. But sometimes it is also just random. Our DNA sadly isnt ever perfect

I have been reading lately that cancer is a metabolic disease. The mitochondria inside the cells use fermentation as energy source instead oxygen in cancer cells. Dr Siegfried out of BC in Massachusetts has studied this for years. He was saying fasting and eliminating carb/sugar diet is important. He has podcasts about it on UA-cam.
I don't believe people with cancer are looked at as a failure by anyone. I know I feel we sorry that another human has to deal with the pain and uncertainty of this evil devil. Not look down on them but feel bad for them.

I do not like the attitude of telling others that in order to get this ill, that there must have been things they have done wrong. That is perpetuating the stigma that you say you had to deal with, and can cause harm to others who are in a position of serious illness, through no fault of their own. If you are going to use UA-cam to spread information, remember that what you say can have a lasting effect on viewers.
My goodness. A lot of the time, these things ARE our faults! A lot of disease occurs due to lack of discipline, which takes it form through having a bad diet, being stressed, doing things that cater to our flesh, etc. We need to learn to fight against bad habits instead of making excuses for them.
They call that bowel cancer because of the location.

I NEVER felt hungry when I was your age…Have a high metabolism. Nothing was wrong with me-nothing serious. I feel like that is not a symptom which is noteworthy, so maybe docs hear that a lot?? And possibly disregard it…
Grandma having stomach cancer seems like family history, no? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I just don't get why that isn't seen as a very clear example of family history. Are stomach and colorectal cancer very different?

67 year old man here. For at least two months I've had the symptoms of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) intermittently-shortness of breath, more rapid than normal Resting Heart Rate, crushing fatigue, louder than usual tinnitus, Eustachian Tubes needing lots of popping, brain fog, feeling 'on edge,' upper back of the neck tense and nerves overexcited there, surroundings seeming a bit surreal, etc.
Then, added to that for the last month I've had (nonintermittent) GI symptoms of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome):
Noxious-smelling, abundant gas
Bloating
Frequent loss of appetite resulting in losing 8 lbs. (180 down to 172)
Constipation, but often without thick/hard stool
Twice used laxative, both times after not going for 3 days
'False alarm' BMs with tiny amount of stool, but gas and some brown goo
Queasy tummy and intestines
Stool color normal; texture usually 'gobs' or smallish pieces, no visible blood with the stool
I feel like I have a permanent case of food poisoning.
I've been busy scouting/watching UA-cam videos on IBS and diet/recommendations for that. I tried a probiotic for two weeks that didn't seem to help. I last took an antibiotic in December 2022 (Cipro for 10 days).
This past Monday new chiropractic x-rays showed pockets of gas and gobs of stool all through my colon (according to the chiropractor), confirming my symptoms. My pants would alternately fit OK or too tight as the bloating varied.
Yesterday I started looking at CRC (Colorectal Cancer) videos and discovered the IBS and CRC symptoms are very similar. My chiropractor will refer me to a Gastroenterologist (GE) next week when I 'give him the word.' My family doctor has a 10-week lead time for appointments just to request a referral from him, so that's a no-go. I don't see as I have any other choice but a colonoscopy from a GE and go from there. Based on how I feel and how suddenly and oddly all of this came on me my guess would be 70/30 odds on it being CRC instead of IBS.
The colonoscopy prep will be harsh on my bowel (I know from a previous sigmoidoscopy); the scope will aggravate both my anal hemorrhoid situation and my Chronic Prostatitis (perhaps for months/years longer than my current flare-up), which I also know from past experience; and after whatever surgery is done there will be a fight with the doctor because chemo is statistically poor for positive results plus devastating to experience and destroys the immune system, and in the past five years I've come to prefer natural treatments (here, Carnivora) to allopathic drugs. Try to fight with the allopathic doctor over chemo when you're weak.
I know I'm not normal at present, can't eat much, need nutrition again, am still experiencing constipation, and am not getting visibly better after a month of this. I'd rather die in my sleep overnight than face bowel surgery and chemo. I started Carnivora tonight to see if it may give me a head start toward healing. The quickest colonoscopy would be a week and a half after the referral is made next week providing there's a cancellation, but it could be longer.
My symptoms relative to CRC are:
-change of bowel habits
-crushing fatigue-though INTERMITTENTLY
-shortness of breath-though INTERMITTENTLY
-constipation/bloating/gas
-some abdominal pain/low back pain-getting worse over time
-marginal nausea some of the time but no vomiting-yet
An issue in my case is that I already have Chronic Prostatitis (pain) and POTS-like symptoms (intermittently, but they are debilitating when present). The treatment for the Prostatitis symptoms is ABDOMINAL STRETCHING ROUTINES AND PELVIC FLOOR TRIGGER POINT RELEASES which I need to do every day. If abdominal CRC surgery happens there won't be any more Prostatitis self-treatment for a very long time-OR needed weekly chiropractic visits either. So my situation is further complicated by these other two conditions-neither of which is a GE's purview. Specialists tend to focus on 'their thing' but I have to still live with THREE different conditions if I allow them to do 'their thing.' I'd also have to continue to cook for myself-I live alone plus I'm on the Paleo Diet! so processed foods are OUT-plus my home is a complete mess (no place for a hired caregiver to even sit down) right now and I'm too sick to even begin the sorting/tossing/cleaning process and with a sore abdomen).
Very hard to make a decision what to do. It will be very much harder if the colonoscopy result is positive for CRC, but I have that 'deep down inner voice' too, telling me my current condition is serious. I already know it's long-lived. And I've already spent DECADES of my life debilitated by Prostatitis and a CRC surgery would likely make that cindition worse, perhaps permanently so. I'm no longer young and able to heal from ANYTHING so well any more.
How does the patient weigh so many variables, factors, and possible outcomes against each other while the specialist is focused on 'their thing?' Quality of life-downright liveability at all-is important too, not just LENGTH of life. How does the weakened patient fight for a natural alternative to chemo with an allopathic doctor who's likely to insist on it being chemo or nothing?

Saw a gastroenterologist's NP assistant on Dec. 4 (after a 2+ month wait) who apparently was not prepared to listen much (enough) to my case history, issues and concerns (including about having a colonoscopy done) which I'd written down beforehand. When I asked upon arrival how long my appointment time would be I was told 30 minutes; the NP was done with me in 15 minutes. Two things I did get: Stethoscopic examination of my abdomen and a home SIBO breath test kit was ordered-however, once it arrived it was the less accurate of the two SIBO tests and it will have to wait until February anyway because I'm still doing an herbal SIBO treatment protocol with antimicrobials in it at home until early January and those must have been discontinued 2-4 weeks before the test can be self-administered.
My local hospital has no contract with a gastroenterologist at present so there will be no substantive help available for me from them either, I learned during a $12,000 overnight hospital stay in mid-October. My remaining option is an online SIBO specialist or SIBO coach, provided that SIBO is indeed what ails me. I'm well aware that I got 'the brush off' by the NP ON Dec. 4; some possible reasons for that include:
1. I'm old fashioned and male and stood up when she entered the room out of respect.
2. My paperwork listed many dietary and SIBO treatment protocol supplements but no prescription or over-the-counter pharmaceuticals were listed at all (I don't take any).
3. I've done a lot of self-education about IBS/SIBO since my symptoms began in early September and she didn't seem to like that.
4. I had beyond-average concerns about doing a colonoscopy first thing (re: aggravating my current Prostatitis flare-up and hemorrhoid situations further; possibly upsetting my only recently improved gut motility/transit time issue with the prep/fasting necessary for the colonoscopy and doing it at a time when my weight is already too low to interrupt my eating; the nonzero danger of intestinal perforation and/or infection from the scope; the ability of the exam to only check the lower part of the colon). I was very much prepared to agree to proceed immediately with any noninvasive testing they wished to do (e.g., scan, ultrasound, blood or stool analysis) but the NP did not let me offer that comment in her allotted appointment time. She also repeatedly interrupted me before I could finish answering the questions she had asked me.
I don’t think cancer patients as being a failure. I think is harsh that you blamed yourself that much.

I had all of those symptoms except blood in my stool. The exhaustion was intense. That was a decade ago. I haven’t had a colonoscopy. My inner voice told me I had something wrong, however I am almost 51 now, so I guess it wasn’t anything serious.

Well, that’s not true. I was anemic. I had H. Pylori, and low vitamin D. High stress job, and I live in isolation..many factors make me feel unwell.
Maybe you also have/had anxiety and or depression.

Steak isn’t a health food. Anything that isn’t a leafy green, a fresh fruit or vegetable, anything without antioxidants probably increases your risk. Steak increases your risk for heart disease and in the US that’s a number one killer. Plant based is the healthiest. You have no idea how many carbohydrates she consumed so it is wrong of you to assume.

Yes…we know now that bad carbs putrefy in the gut and get moldy if not processed quickly through the intestines, thus leaving one susceptible to growths and cancer…..proteins, good fats and veggies are the best food for us..very simple..

The pity is more sympathy than anything. Of course there is pity as well because it’s a horrible thing to have. Especially so young. But it’s not a negative pity. It’s not an accusation.
IMO I think very few people - VERY FEW - people would think it was a failure to have cancer. And those people are not worth knowing.
My mum was NOT a failure for getting cancer at 42 and dying at 44, 35 years ago. It wasn’t something she did or didn’t do.
That makes me mad. And I wholeheartedly believe it’s mostly untrue.

Pretty sure your blood tests were not including cancer markers. These days for some reason doctors don't want to do cancer markers... Even if you ask them. I am still mad at my doctor for this.
