- Diesel live at the Hengelo BAM!Festival, Netherlands, 2016.
For this video Diesel used footage of both the concert and the soundcheck. Post-production, edits included, took place at Diesel's own studio in Germany and at René Meister's studio in Hilversum.
One of my favorite songs from back in the day, still a great tune today!!

I am Dutch, this is a Dutch band and I can honestly say I’m stunned to see how good this performance resembles the original song from 1980. The power of all the instruments, so well played, those “older” guys voices, I can’t think of many well known artists that deliver the same energy. Truly something to be proud of as a Dutchman, therefore I am! Deep respect to these guys!

The story line is awesome.Spontaneous Road Trip with pocket change, a clunker, and relentless determination.
May have been a 'one hit wonder'...BUT...man, what a HIT! Great tune.
That's why they're called "one hit wonders". They're amazing and memorable, but that's all that came out of the group that could be said was the same.
They have actually two hits, the other one just never was nearly as big of a hit. So they aren't really a one hit wonder.
It's amazing how good their tone memory is. It's perfectly in tune with a song that's more than 40 years old.

It does say its edited, this isn't the live recording sound. It's the original track playing with the video of them playing live at a festival added to the sound track.

Ah...memories... Collage days.. 1984, I-81 going south just north of Binghamton NY.. In my red 1982 red Ford Escort.. Going down hill, newly paved asphalt, no Ba bump Ba bump from the expansion joints.. 55 mph speed limit, I was listening to this song and did not realize I was doing 75 mph..Got my first speeding ticket!! Memories!:-)
I loved this song so much. Had no $ to buy back in 1981. Had an old beau find a copy for me in the mid-80's. One of my all-time favs. This is a great version.

I heard this song today, first time in years and I cranked it up and went nuts!!!!!
I introduced this song to one of the younger fellows where I work. He enjoyed it. Then we talked cars. I told him about Ramblers, how they were an OK car, they did have one quirk, the distributor could get damp on rainy days and no-start, pop the cap and squirt a little starting fluid in it, dry it out and you were good-to-go. And how Rambler, Studebaker, Willies (Jeep), etc. formed AMC, that merged with Chrysler, then there was Daimler Chrysler, then FCA and now Stellantis. Crazy ride, fun song.
Just found out today that Diesel were Dutch. have had this record since it was out in Canada on the charts and I never knew. Everyday is a school day

When the entire band finally chimes in at the beginning is about as profound as fun pop rock gets imo. I didnt have a car in those days but getting picked up by friends was just as good never knew what we were getting into each night.
This Diesel is absolutely worth 6 bucks a gallon.

Right up there with Jay Ferguson's Thunder Island, Steve Miller's Jet Airliner, The great Doobie Brothers China Grove / Listen to the Music/ Rocking Down the Highway, Isley Brothers' Summer Breeze, Credence' Up Around the Bend / Sweet Hitch hiker, Roxy Music's Street Life.
Such a great song from my childhood. And they sound absolutely amazing to this day. It may be a one-hit wonder here, but it's an enduring one that just never goes away.

I can honestly say that in every song that I have heard sung decades after the original, this group sounds amazing! Fantastic job. I loved this song in 80 and still do!
This isn't their 'live' recording at the festival, the video from the festival is intermingled with original track, studio stuff and from the festival

I was a Top 40 DJ in SanFran when this came out and I played it and loved it! All I wanted were uptempo songs and this one fit the bill.

Great tune....but both videos I have seen on UA-cam for this song are Visually LIVE but had the single played as the music track with a couple Crowd claps in spots and at the end. I guess it's better for business! But the song reminds me of summer and its 100 degrees in the shade today! " GET ON BOARD! "

If you're a student of guitar and have heard the expression, "pedal tone", well, this is a perfect demonstration of a pedal tone. Some folks call it a, "drone note" but it's really a pedal tone.
--- [1] Stunningly great musicianship (in both studio & live) on a truly great song. Excellent. I love this song. I had this song's album, Watts in a Tank, until Katrina sadly got this album. --- [2] I have to wonder if this vid is a true, completely live cover by the performing artists in the vid. During the guitar solo, at about 3:21, the left-side guitar player begins what is supposed to be a two-part guitar harmony run/riff. Meanwhile, the right-side guitar & keyboard players (who both at that time play chords) do not play the appropriate guitar-harmony parts. Indeed, it is possible that the left-side guitar player used a guitar harmonizer at that 3:21 point. --- [3] Also, the whole song in the vid is just too perfect in vocals & instrumentation in replicating the excellent original recording. --- [4] In any case, I love this great song & the vid. The thing that makes this song so cool is the references to all the troubles they had with the Rambler during the trip. Whirlpool in the tank, haven't got a spare, etc. Very well written and clever song. Too bad Diesel didn't have many hits but I picked up their album in a bargain rack years later for 99 cents and wasn't impressed with the rest of the songs. Oh well, at least we have this gem.
