I suggested this song knowing that each component would be rocked to it’s core by the responsible performers and it was. This song is just f’in FUN to boot.
The majority of people--even those whose prime teen years were in the early 80s--would not know/recognize this song, but 1981 was an incredible year for music and Sausalito Summer Nights was a great one-hit tune that was perfect for the time. Still holds up well today, and this is a great cover of it. Nice job, guys. 👍
I suggested this song to do. I heard it on WXRT saturday morning flashback. I had never heard it before that. It was fun for us and a good forum to display our people.
Wow… the harmonies are superb… great job!! Y’all ever do something like dust in the wind? I bet you could do anything like that with tight harmonies. I know you did an outstanding job on that LRB song.
Joe, this was one of my three suggestions for this year. I picked it because I thought each part could be covered well by our members. It actually exceeded my expectations Johns guitar work,Tommy’s bass playing, Dougs keys and of course Dan laid down a great bed rock foundation that made it really easy to sing over. Number one tho is this song is just so much fun to play. Thanks Deisel for a great song for old duffers to cover.
The entire band and vocals are literally unbelievable, I am thinking while listening , they made recording with video , went back to studio and removed the audio and this is a studio take , with retakes and over dubbing , if not this band is second to almost none
Thanks Joseph! I guess we're second to none! I had to laugh because the thought of doing what you said would be pretty much impossible. This is totally live! No retakes or overdubs. This is actually a once-a-year gig we do bringing together a group of 10-12 lifelong friends. Half the guys don't even live in town and only come in the day before the gig. That's the only chance to rehearse the songs with everybody. On the other hand, everyone knows what songs they'll be playing on since March and the gig is on Labor Day weekend. As far as vocals, we are blessed with having 3 lead singers who are all really talented. I'm the drummer and I'll also do harmonies occasionally. The fortunate part is that all the vocalists do live in town, and we can really hone the vocals before the show. What your hearing is the great recording we get. I do all the audio and video production. If you notice the thing sitting in front of my bass drum is a splitter. All mikes and line outs on the stage (16 channels) go into this. Then they are split. I have 2 digital recording devices next to my high hat recording all the tracks separately. The first split goes to those and the other to the board (PA). This way I end up with nice clean tracks of everything. At the end of the gig, 31 songs, I have 16 channels of audio and 6 video tracks. 300GB of files. I didn't finish making these videos until March. I take my time and end up with these results. When Mark picked this song (singer to the left) none of us had ever heard it before. I can say by the time we played it live we LOVED it! I hope you have a chance to watch more of our videos from that day and from the previous years of the picnic. There are links in the description of all the picnic years 2010-2023(nothing for 20-21). Thanks again! Dan

I first heard it last summer on a radio program called Saturday Morning Flashback on WCRT Chicago’s Finest Rock. The year was 1981. I thought it was a great song to feature our talents and the guys definately met the challenge. Please spread the word about this song and check out the Deisel live performance as well. Long live Rock and songs like this can support that notion. Thanks for your interest.
