  • Berkeley Springs High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Jack "JK" Hunter.
Berkeley Springs High School is set to honor one of its most distinguished former athletes, Jack "JK" Hunter, with induction into the Class of 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame. Hunter, a standout in both baseball and golf, left an indelible mark on the sports programs at Berkeley Springs and beyond.
Hunter was a three-year letterman in baseball for the Indians, making his presence felt on the diamond from the start. As a junior, he earned All-State Honorable Mention, showcasing his prowess at the plate and in the field. He built on that success as a senior, earning Second Team All-State honors and leading the state of West Virginia with an impressive 54 RBIs. His leadership and clutch performances were key to the Indians' success, as he played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the 1985 Class AA WV State runner-up finish. Hunter's remarkable career at BSHS concluded with him holding school records in five different categories, solidifying his legacy as one of the program's all-time greats. In addition to his achievements on the baseball field, Hunter was also a four-year letterman in golf. His consistent performances earned him two trips to the Class AA WV State Tournament, and he was named regional runner-up, further demonstrating his versatility and competitive spirit. Hunter's athletic talents were matched by his academic achievements, as he was the recipient of the Male Army Scholarship as a senior. This recognition paved the way for his continued success at the collegiate level. At Concord University, Hunter became a three-time All-Conference team member and graduated with four school baseball records in batting. His athletic journey at Concord wasn't limited to baseball; he also played one year of golf and made the All-Tournament team, proving his ability to excel in multiple sports.
As an adult, Hunter continued to pursue his passion for golf, competing in several world distance golf driving contests and finishing as high as ninth. His dedication to the sport extended to his professional life, where he became a member of the PGA for 20 years. During his career, he won two Pro-Am tournaments and set the course record at Cacapon Resort. Hunter's contributions to his community didn't stop there; he served as an assistant baseball coach at Berkeley Springs High School for five years, helping to shape the next generation of athletes.
