I was there and it was the most memorable game I ever attended. Just crazy the whole time! It felt like even at the end nobody had left and everyone was screaming just as much as the start of the game. 52-7 and we were cheering for the D and wanting more points! Miss those days
As a Husker fan, I fondly remember this game. After a few years of losing and having a tie game against the Buffs, Tommie Frazier and the Huskers really took out their frustration on the Buffs during this game.
I fondly remember missing this game due to a school project and will refuse to watch it even now. Nothing good happens to a Denver or Colorado sports team on halloween.
This game here was really the beginning of the greatest run in college football history that led to the three national championships that should have been five national championships in a row it started in this night Nebraska showed what was getting ready to happen to the rest of college football for the next 5 years in this game
@@BruceWayne-ri4wr It was indeed a peek at the dominant Husker teams that would dominate the the mid- to late- 1990's. 5 national championships in a row? I agree that the 1993 squad could have won the championship against FSU that season. They won it during the '94, '95 and '97 seasons. However, the 19-0 pounding that the '96 Nebraska squad suffered against ASU IMHO prevents any reasonable argument that they should have been national champs. That game really broke my heart--I still remember agonizing during the entire game watching Jake "The Snake" Plummer end the Husker undefeated streak. I really miss those days. GBR!

You mean CU gave Nebraska a beatdown for the 3rd straight time in a row. Nebraska hasn't done jack shit since they came to the BIG Ten. They cant beat Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State or Wisconsin. I recall Wisconsin lighting up Nebraska in the 2012 Big Ten championship game 70-31. I remember Nebraska fans throwing up when Colorado beat them 62-36 in 2001 and Colorado won the BIG 12 championship. Texas would have destroyed Nebraska. Then Nebraska got SMACKED by Miami 37-14 in the Rose bowl 37-14, LMFAO! I am 47 years old and I am older than you.
@anthonyharrison693 I saw your post and was ready to refute it... Then I read it and didn't see anything that wasn't true. I've been watching college football since the early 80's. What should have been a dip in success, which all good programs suffer, in the early 2000's, turned into a two and a half decade series of failure. And there doesn't seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I've seen teams have their ups and downs, their rise and falls, but never have I seen such a successful program crash and burn and not be able to recover.
Absolutely sick how dominant Nebraska's pass rush was during this game. And that was with just the front 4 of Trev Alberts, Travis Hill, Johnny Parella, and Terry Conneally. Would be curious to know how many sacks and QB hurries were forced by those 4.
Frailer has to be talked about as the best qb in college football history. Dude dominated every big game even as a freshman and the team rolled through the nest 4 years.
I was there. And it was the loudest most rowdy Husker crowd in the history of Memorial Stadium. Anybody that disagrees with that was not there. It was so loud that CU QBs had to move around in the huddle and yell the the plays to the other players in the huddle. And there was no letup between plays. And what was amazing was it was as loud and raucous at the end of the game as at the start even though the game was well in hand. It was dark, it was misty, it was a little foggy and it was Halloween night. It was beyond wild. It was bloodlust turned loose.
I was at this game, sat on the aisle right next to the Colorado fans section, even though they were getting their asses handed to them the Colorado fans ran their mouth the entire game. We sat in the rain and enjoyed the 52-7 smackdown!!
Can’t forget Byron Bennett missing that 44 yard field goal in the 1993 Orange bowl against Florida State. We win that game we win three consecutive national titles. 1994 , 1995 , 1996.
Like to point out that both the early eighties teams and the early nineties and mid-90s teams weren't highly ranked the class I believe like 23 was the Frazier's classes ranking at for recruiting it was less about the player and more about the team
Ahhh big pads, midriffs out football! I still can't believe they used to play on what comes out to basically be CARPET - I played a game in high school on one of those before they were all phased out and it was HORRIBLE...but they had Astroturf at all levels..played Super Bowls on em...crazy Also note how the linemen weren't so massive back then...they didn't all require knee braces and they weren't all 6'+ 300+ lb monsters like now When they all line up damn near everybody looks the same size! Now we got players looking like WWE characters out there
Power football. The Big Red Machine truly ran all over the Buffalos and then in the 4th to add to the smackdown started passing the ball brutal. Then there was the defensive domination ouch. BLOWOUT!😵💫
I have thought for a while that Colorado getting away from the wishbone helped Nebraska win three national titles in four years. The Huskers had to prepare to play a team like that, but never had to before. For about a decade... teams like Miami and Florida State wold KILL them in bowl games.
Those were home games for Miami and the Noles 1994 loss to Noles 16-14 was a killer. Trev Albert’s had Charlie Ward running for his life. Great college football game.
Tough day for Koy ("The Chew Toy") Detmer. IMHO the Buffs should have stayed with their power/option offense and not gone to their pass-happy attack. The Buffs seemed to lose some of their swagger and edge when they moved away from the physicality of their run-first offense.
@@gazooie1958 Coach McCartney hired Neuheisel as his offensive coordinator in an effort to become more balanced on offense and to shift away from his winning formula of power/option football.
