  • After almost a 2 month break, I'm back with a super cool vintage cast iron
    haul I made off a Facebook ad I never originally saw! A friend told me about it, and after messaging the seller, I made a short road trip to check it out! I came back with 11 pieces, a few very interesting ones and 2 super rare pieces as well. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out! Please remember to hit the thumbs up, leave a comment or question below, and thanks so much for watching! 😊😁

    Love the videos and it can get overwhelming I have also been trying to be more selective. I have bought some hauls that I should have passed on! I will say it is a lot less time consuming with a electrolysis tank I average 8-10 pieces a week, am then I season on Saturdays so my oven is only going 1 day a week for seasoning. I am working full time it does take a lot of my time . It’s the only items I sell so i totally get it, you have so many other items in your store. Do enjoy your videos. Look forward to seeing them finished! Who knows you may uncover something special.

      Thank you Sheri and I agree, it can be overwhelming at times! I just needed to take a break to allow me to recharge my batteries. I do so many little things that all need time that it can be distracting and overwhelming at times to keep all the balls in the air. Taking a break on the videos was one less thing I had to deal with. It takes a lot of time to record one along with the editing and sometimes doing a segment over again. Cast iron has really helped my store, so I do realize I need to continue but in a more manageable way!

    Congrats your haul .I really like that old gate marked piece I think that's a keeper.as far as that sweet little #5 heat ring one I'm gonna guess it may turn out to be a Favorite Ware or maybe end up with a ghost mark ,I'm sure you'll let us know when you clean it up I'd be curious to know , enjoyed the video.take care

      Thank you Duane and it was good seeing you here! Yes, I think that little #5 might indeed be a Favorite Piqua Ware or similar skillet! My first thought was an old Wagner (before Ware was added) or SIDNEY, then I saw one Favorite that looked just like mine. I will do a video once these pieces are done, but I will have a bunch of people trying to buy all them up too! lol

    How do I send a photo to the comments? I got a pan today that I washed and used steel wool on. It's not bad at all. Its very dry. A little orange when I dried it with a towel. Can I just season it or should I put it in the oven on high heat first?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  3 роки тому

      You can't, but you can email it to me at ladylibertystacker@gmail.com. That orange is flash rust. You should remove it with cleansing vinegar (soak for about 30 minutes, then scrub with Brillo pad). Dry and cost with cooking spray like Pam (Canola oil) to prevent more flash rust from forming. It will do that and the worst thing you can do is to put it in a hot oven. You need to do this, then season as normal.

    I would be curious to know if your able to find out what the 2nd #5 pan is, as I just picked one of these up for 5 dollars. I can tell it's the same type of pan by the heat ring and the placement of and type of font so to speak.

    LLS, glad that you are back. Owe you an apology, I watched your last video in March and I gave it a thumbs up but forgot to comment that I enjoyed it; sorry, my bad. Like my UA-cam friend, mizfrenchtwist, said GREAT HAUL!! Miz and I participate in live chats on Cast Iron Chaos' channel every Wed night. Bet both your hubby & you had BIG smiles on your faces coming home. I'm going to guess that first BSR #8 skillet is a Red Mt. Remember, I'm a BSR, Lodge and Martin guy. On the two unknown #5, I never ACTUALLY seen any skillet like either one but after they get cleaned, I would compare them to National, Favorite and Erie skillets. Again, I've never held one and I'm just guessing but something about them makes me think of National & Favorite. But don't get your hopes up, I'm a TERRIBLE guesser...just ask my wife!! The Handy Dan started production in the late 1980s till end of BSR in early 1990s. Never found one of those in north Louisiana yet. And I agree with you, restoring BSR's 8 piece cornbread skillets takes a lot of time. As usual, I enjoyed your video and the info that you pass on to us. As Brian Presley stated, "we all appreciate your videos and we are loyal to your channel." I'll be watching....Papaw Dan

      Thank you Papaw Dan! You and Brian are among my most loyal viewers! 😊 I am thinking you are right about my #5s being a NATIONAL or a Favorite, but we'll see! The #8 BSR's - one is most likely a transition from a Red Mtn to a Century Series and the other is hopefully a Red Mountain Series. They are both good pans and someone will end up with a good cooker. I would love to live chat on Wednesday night, but I am in a golf league and we all go out for bar food when we are done playing. It is so much fun! How late on Wednesday night? maybe I can join in when I get home? I like Miz too! lol That said, it won't be this week as I have an early morning appt on Thursday, so it will be to bed as soon as I get home! Anyway, I will be back once these pans are done and we can figure out what they are! I was thinking what you said, so I am on the right path! Take care! LLS

      @@ladylibertystacker2014 Cast Iron Chaos' live show starts at 7:00 pm C.S.T. or 8:00 pm E.S.T. every Wednesday night except one. One Wednesday a month, he is "on call", so he does that show on Thursday night at the same time. Generally, he ends about 90 minutes after he starts or 8:30 pm C.S.T.. People come and go throughout every week's show. Usually, his show consists of him cooking while us viewers ask him questions, about either cooking or on our cookware. Cookware can range from the 1800's gate-mark variety to cast iron produced today in U.S. and overseas. Sometimes, his show is strictly about one manufacturer, such as BSR, Lodge, Stargazer, etc. Like Brian & I are regular viewers of yours, there is about 6-8 of us regulars on his channel. We have a ball every week discussing whatever; YOU would fit right in with us. Plus, you might catch a cameo appearance by his cat, named Trouble, it is funny when he appears and Eric isn't expecting him. Hope the unknown #5 do turn out to be what you are thinking. I'll be watching to see.....Papaw Dan

    Lady liberty I need that griddle. What do you want for it unfinished

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  3 роки тому

      It is already in the lye tank so I can’t sell it to you unfinished. It would need to be thoroughly cleaned at this point and at least 1 coat of seasoning applied. Depending on condition, these go for $50 -$90 give or take. I won’t know better until it comes out of lye bath. Thanks for your inquiry.

    If someone could please help me? I am looking for a vintage #5 (BSR) early, 30's,40's ??
    I can restore if it is not warped or cracked or too rusty.
    How much do they normally sell for?

    • @ladylibertystacker2014
      @ladylibertystacker2014  Рік тому +1

      I wish I could help. The only skillets I have left for sale are #5 Unmarked 3 Notch Lodge skillets. They are from the 1930s - 1940s or so. My BSRs are gone. Best of luck. They sell for high 20s to low 30s the last time I looked. That said, it's best to do a listings sold search on eBay to find current sold prices. Hope this helps.

      I recently bought a number 8 in the exact same style as your number 9 gate marked skillet. I would be interested if anyone knows any more about them. I wonder if they were basic skillets that were included with a cast iron cook stove in the 1800s.

      Under the right circumstances. It isn't always profitable for me to do that. In this situation, everything is now soaking in a lye bath.
