  • This is a synthesized basic explanation of how precision GPS methods work:
    -Differential GNSS (DGNSS)
    -Real Time Kinematics (RTK)
    -Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS)
    -Precision Point Positionning (PPP)

the PRN period length is wrong in the video 0:34! 1/1,023Mhz ~ 1us instead of 1ms

RTK is best. that is one time investment, and independent. plus better accuracy

Nice, but there many free online PPP service that can help you....for example- CSRS-PPP, GAPS, magicGNSS, APPS etc.

The period of the standard GPS should be about 1 us not 1 ms. But good explanation of the current tech

      The GPS-L1 C/A PRN-code repetition-repetition = 1 [ms] exactly

Could any of these methods theoretically still provide some assistance even if all satellite GPS signal was lost for some time? It seems like multiple ground stations could potentially serve as a backup within a local area.

You could use local IMUs to provide some short assistance when no sats are visible. This is how GPS in cars work when you go through a tunnel

I was hoping for a little bit better than inertial guidance fall back within the device since the accuracy of that degrades pretty quickly over time. However a stationary GPS signal correction ground station with an internal inertial fall back to correct for rotation of the Earth and historical GPS data to extrapolate from might still be pretty accurate for some time. I am wondering if several of these could broadcast sufficient positioning data using their own locations as a reference for local receiving devices. GPS spoofers can do something like this maliciously but perhaps something similar could be done with good intentions. I hope ground stations can be used as a fall back to send accurate data to create a helpful limited utility GPS brown out instead of a total black out if satellite data is lost. Is anything like this already implemented?

Interesting suggestion. I honestly do not know if it has already been implemented but as a principle if someone can think about it, it has already been done or tried.
