I have 150 onions in containers. 100 white and 50 red. I started them from sets in plug trays in the green house at end of Feb, until they got roots and shoots. Then planted them out in containers. They are romping away down here in Kent. I'm extremely pleased with their progress. Good luck with yours mate 👍👍👍

Hello Ivan, I must grow everything in containers myself and I kept finding the soil outside of the containers because of the drainage.
I decided to try my best to stop that, so I lined the container with the black cloth used for other purposes. So far the soil/compost has stayed.
My potatoes are grown in very large pots, very good drainage, so they're lined the same way.
Good quality compost is hard enough to find, I want it staying where I need it.
Great job we cant afford to be losing the black gold

After years of procrastination I started a veggie garden on May 4th 2024
I appreciate I may have left it late in the year to start sowing, so harvest May not yield as much… but I’m learning the basics of germination and plant maintenance.
I got some onions seeds growing in a little pot in my little plastic green house. The greens currently sit around 2 inches of the soil. So i probably got a few more weeks before they get as big as yours.
My runner beans got transplanted though. Made my very first trellis too! Well chuffed with it, those runner beans have shot up since sowing.
I think I’ll get some proper beds for spring next year! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in the garden these last few weekends…. Though to be fair, the weather has been lovely down South Cymru / Wales 🏴

Hi there Ivan your right about compost ,this year it's been awful lots of bits of wood in it also stuck together in big lumps wonder why this is? Managed to get pot fruit tree this morning very healthy and great price as you said.😊 Hugs from Shropshire.

Thanks Ivan, I had a failure earlier in the year with poor germination of bedfordshire champion but I've recently sown some Welsh onions (I can't remember the name) that look a lot better and some sets. Have a great week, some rain heading your way though. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Do you have to trim the onions Ivan, just wondering as mine are looking long now. I got one of those Welcome planters today form Home bargains, they're over £20 on the internet. Thanks for the update, at least I know I did my onions ok lol ...

Mine is full of it. I got B&Q Verve but these modern composts are full of all sorts and I have notice small bits of plastic in them!
