Great idea Chuck!! This is great for how I set my swarm boxes so far away. Your swarm season is always a month earlier than ours, yet we’re due west. My friend in Madison, Fl always sees cells in February….interesting to hear you talk about the swarm box for cells. Learned that from Dr. Jeff Harris a couple years back and I was just telling someone how to set one up. Great video.
I am planning in the next few weeks in making swarm traps out of 3 and 5 gallon food grade buckets, I acquired from the local grocery stores, I have lemon grass oil would be great to try out your vile experiment, will be needing comb to melt and paint on the inside of buckets,. hopefully I'll have some luck placing them around the Atlantic Beach area were I live, and up in Yulee were my bee keeper partner lives.
Chuck...I'd love to send you some Swarm Commander Premium Swarm Lure to try. I like your idea with the vials. We have a crush vial that is much like that.
I just set out four traps this week that have these test tube lures in. Thanks for the idea! I love this idea and it was so easy!! BTW I used a thinner braided cotton. Hoping it would use less oil so the scent isn’t overwhelming
I think you might have a good idea here. I am not sure exactly how to "measure" the scent strength to be sure not to be putting out too much. keep us posted.
I posted this on your gummy video and then I saw this one. If you still like the idea of gummy lures, try agar. Its a natural seaweed product and will hold up much better in your temperatures. The melting point for gelatin is 95 F (35 C) whereas the melting point for agar is 185 F (85 C). Therefore agar requires boiling before it sets at 90 - 104 F (32 - 40 C). It is also much more resistant to biodegrading. Its a one to one swap for gelatin.
Great video .... I might have to try those in one of my traps. Keep the vids coming ... love them.
Thanks, will do!
Your slow release swarm lure is a great idea. I like when beekeepers come up with something new and share what they discovered. Thank you for the tip.
Glad you enjoyed it! Let me know if you give it a try..
@@chuckshoneybees If I was in Florida, I'd stop by to talk bees and grab a few vials, but I'm in Virginia. lol

Thanks for the comment Mike! Good to know we are on the same page. Hope to come out and work bees with you one day, I think it would be fun.
Love your comments
Wow, thank you for that.
Nice to have a Florida beekeeper on YT...I am in Sarasota County FL
Welcome aboard!
Very good idea If I was a little closer I'd swing by for the chat for sure
Thanks for the comment.

Sounds like a fun set of spring goals!

Thanks! Do you plan on using just lemongrass or adding neroli oil?
Just lemongrass this year. Not sure if neroli makes a difference. Needs an experiment of some sort.
