    I've never seen anybody explain what a DJ does while they are back there twisting knobs. I know everybody is going to have their own individual style which is what should make a DJ unique from others out there. I have zero experience as a DJ but have always wanted to know some of the basics of how it is done. So for me your explanations in a sense laid a basic foundation that I hope will enable me to build from.
    Thanks for the info, I do appreciate it.

      Originally it was blending two records together at the same time, while controlling speed, eq levels, and other details to make seamless transitions from one record to the next. Eventually it became a skill contest as tricks were developed to make it more entertaining. Cutting, scratching, juggling and mixing are techniques used for vinyl djing.

    • @austinrobertson6160
      @austinrobertson6160 3 роки тому +1

      Ben ufo isn’t a crazy mixer, usually let’s songs play out. More of a “right song right time” type of dj.

    • @stuartmoir1372
      @stuartmoir1372 3 роки тому +7

      @@austinrobertson6160 that is just absolutely not true in any shape or form. Ben UFO is phenomenal at mixing and is found seamlessly going from track to track with only perhaps a couple of minutes of the full track exposed. His recent 2019 Dekmantel Boiler Room is a clear example of that.
      Of course he plays the right track at the right time but there’s just way more to the complexity and art of his mixing

    Really helps to be able to mix like this when you're using EDM tracks that have distinct builds and drops. When you mix regular techno, these techniques don't apply the same.

    I Mix psytrance & this is not possible for that style! I don’t really mess up with the tracks! It’s not possible with psytrance because the tracks are too long & all of them has a story to tell & psytrance dancers don’t like to be disturbed by jumping from this track to that track! I normally have a good track selection & I cut the resting time & give the dance floor a rest time when I feel they need it! Beside the guy that was mentoring me mentioned that music producers stay in the studio & make these tracks why Mix it with something else if it’s good already! We don’t have to touch the nubs all the time & add Fx & this & that to show the crowd yeah look at me I’m the dj! I’m the one! It’s less about the dj & more about the dance floor

    One of best thing I like about Martin Garrix is during his live session he is not afraid of bring the build up mix on the fly and keep the energy level same of previous drop. Most of the time I try to bring second build up & drop to hype and use its outro for the build up next drop, it's fun & more powerful. So basically sometimes I start my mix with first drop, sounds messed up if I forget about scale but its fun though. For deep mix analysis I want u to check out Dj Braindead, he is like a magician just like one of my best Dj Carlo😊😊

    Great video Carlo!! Hope you make it into a full fledged series.
    When I started off DJ-ing with my little controller, I used to mix EDM songs. And I used to listen to so many EDM artists but Martin Garrix was my fave along with Kygo. His UA-cam set on KISS FM I used to watch on repeat and even had a little book with the track names and acapellas that they would mix with and even had mix in and mix out points. Sadly I lost that little notebook... I used to think of songs that I would insert or acapellas that would work better.

    Martin Garrix is a producer first and foremost, not a DJ. He shaped modern EDM on his own (no ghost producers) with his sounds that have been over-copied by everyone else (think bandpass lead and pump saw.) Compared to other artists like James Hype who are DJs at best, and usually need musical assistants ("ghost producers") to produce, he holds up in his own way.

    • @srxvas
      @srxvas 9 місяців тому

      See, Martin's production and production quality is PEAK (and this is unarguable). DJing is secondary also because above all he INVENTS his own tunes… unlike most other DJs who blatantly interpolate songs.
      To sum it up, Martin Garrix is and always will be, pretty much inarguably the greatest DJs, producers, and live artists of all time!

    Im not into this type of music, James Hype sets the standard hands down. His style of djing is what got me into djing 18 years ago, prior to this "EDM" era of so called music.

      Same thoughts. There is nothing “Martin Garrix” about this. This is exactly how I (and all my fellow mixhead DJs) mixed 20-30 years ago, before the invention of Sync, filters and David Guetta...

    As you know, he is more of a very talented producer than Dj .These kinds of tricks are a typical Dutch style of basic DJ teaching.
