Very good point about checking your sources to check you're not just watching marketing material. I agree that finding out the cons of a career is absolutely vital. I went into teaching despite people warning me of the stress. Wow, they were not wrong, and the stress and long hours was in fact a million times worse than I imagined and I burmt out very fast which took years to recover from. I wish I'd never wasted time and money training to teach. Career research, work experience, work shadowing, honest conversations with yourself, journaling etc will all help us figure out the best career match for ourselves.
Thank you for being transparent with your experience! I'm currently in the process of my job search at the moment, and your tips and advices are so helpful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’m actually taking a course for ux design and looking to become a ux designer. I think we have VERY similar experiences and it’s very inspiring. I’m from San Diego too and I’m moving back in just a few months. Thank you for sharing everything in this video
I also have a psych degree! And thinking of getting into UX. Everything you said resonated with me. I love psych but not enough to continue my education in it. I lovee technology, and honestly the more I look into UX design the more I’m interested. But I hear that the interviews are insanely long! I hate presentations lol But I’ll learn to get over my fear. At least for school projects where I had to present I found that being overly prepared for presentations is key! Helps one be a bit less nervous. After my degree I didn’t do anything related to psych. 2 yrs later I went back to school for marketing. Went for 2 semesters and then realized it wasn’t for me. But I took some helpful classes. Also I was able to Improve my presentation skills as every single one of my classes required students to do at least 3 presentations for each class! Anyway I’m not looking to go back to school again. Because I’m also a hermit lol definitely signing up for a bootcamp. This video was so helpful!! Do you have a video on what you do in a day as a UX designer ?
I left my healthcare job last September and am currently working in a completely unrelated job that I can't wait to get out of. I also have a psych degree but have had difficulty finding a job in the field or anything related to psych. I love technology and computers, but I don't think working at a Help Desk or anything IT is really for me. Interested in getting into UX :)
You surprised me at @3:04 I am an introvert. I wish I was as outspoken as you are 😆 I am a teacher looking for a career change. This is my 6th year working at a public school. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi, Im planning to figure out which UX bootcamp to enroll and I see that you are taking DesignLab's foundation, would you like to share your experience? how do you rate your experience with them? I have General Assembly and SpringBoard in my list too. Thank you in advance.
Pug goals. This is one of my favorite videos yet. So many help tips. Thanks for always dropping awesome content. We'd love to get you on our podcast sometime! 👍👍
I think you got the job becasue you at least have a degree. A degree in psychology is still very useful for UX. This is because UX is still a young and new industry that there really is no degree made for it, except for human computer interaction which is not readily available in most colleges. Also for the average college dropout, you will be risking the idea of promotions as well. Often times, companies like to promote those with college degree. All in all, it took 4 years to realize this after dropping out, and i regret it.
Just found your video!! And I feel so grateful for it, I’m going to start my bootcamp UX design this month and I’m little bit concern if I will like it or not. Your videos helped me a lot! Thank u!!
Oh my god I'm binge watching your videos. I'm planning to relaunch my career as UX designer, I enrolled for Google course and you know how it goes when there is no push :D planning to start with bootcamp hopefully will be able to figure out which one, thank you for all the tips and its really helpful.
I am a graphic designer, I really want to switch to UI UX but I don't want to get through a degree... I feel it's a waste of time and money... I hope I will make it 🥺
like would digital marketing degree help me with ux design? or don't even bother and just learn on the bootcamp? Because the marketing and writing blogs would be the challenging part for me..
I am about to binge your channel. You are literally my personality type. I’ve been interested in ux design for quite some time now. I even enrolled in googles ux course and it was pretty good. I wasn’t able to finish it because life. But I am revisiting it since I have the time and resources to complete it. Thanks for your perspective 😁
I just started the same course on Coursera. Just about to finish week 1. Past couple of days i’ve been binging a bunch of videos on ux design to learn more about it from people in the field!
Hey Mimi, nice video! And congratulations on a successful career change! Hope you are doing awesome and I hope you are happy with your current job! :) Greetings from a beginner! :)
I'm currently taking Google UX design certificate. I don't have any background of design but I've taken many psychology course in college to be a teacher. Just curious what background or requirement do employer look for when they want to hire a entry level UX designer? Thank you.
@@gloriareyes6556 Hi Gloria, so far I’m loving it. As of now, I’ve only been introduced to conceptual learning of principles/fundamentals and philosophy behind UX design. I was pleasantly surprised of how much thoughts google has put into this education program to make it very easy, concise, and organized. Unfortunately, I can’t say too much about the projects in the course because I’ve only just been introduced to it in course 2 of 7. Let me know if you have any more questions!
I've looked at the bootcamps and I wish I could do them, but I work 45 hours a week and the 7k is simply not feasible. I'll have to stick with the Google ux certificate and then work on my own to fill in any holes.
I've been thinking about going into ux design, possibly going to major in graphic design and minor in advertisement when i go to college and then get an mba, would that be a good education for ux design?
Hi . I don't have a degree. But I have some doubt. Not important degree in this ui ux field? Because IT field should be need degree for promotion and hike for that. Can you please clarify me immediately sir. Please
I’ve heard of it, but can’t confidently speak to it since I did designlab. I see their ads a ton though, looks to be on the lower cost end of boot camps too. I would suggest reaching out to anyone who did avocademy via LinkedIn if you can find any!
Hi! I have not had the chance to take the Google UX Cert so I won't be able to speak to it. I went through DesignLab's bootcamp as my primary UX Education, but I will have to check it out potentially as a supplement.
Hi, could you tell me what kind of opportunities and skillsets being a UX designer could carry into the general field of design, for example physical product design?
Physical design would be something like Industrial Design. They both have UX design elements however industrial design is allot more technical and focused on manufacturing, human ergonomics, sketching, model making and allot of hard skills beyond ux but the fundamental human center design, design thinking and experience design aspect are transferable. I was formerly educated in industrial design and have worked in both fields without an issue hoping back and forth. But I do know allot of the hard skills of industrial design took me my full 4 year degree before I felt super confident in my skill set. But it’s not impossible to transfer without a degree. I know allot of interior designed and architects working in ID.
I've been thinking about robbing a few banks lately. Can't take being broke anymore. I've been trying to find a new job for months with no luck. I know my resume' is dull because I had a late start in the work field. Ugh.
