I don't know what to think of this arc:
- on one hand, we get to see a testing ground for new Eggman plans; I think this concept was inspired by the 2020 Annual story of Eggman and Starline, but on a much bigger scale. If the heroes never discovered this place, Eggman was able to utilize a safe controlling zone to test new things (we don't want new threats, like a Metal Virus, running amok, right Eggy?)
- on the other hand, we have Tangle being a much more responsible warrior, once again using a calm dialogue when facing a new fact (in this case, Belle being a badnik), and using her natural abilities to create new pathways to traverse an enemy filled room. She should thank Whisper for their tag adventure.
One thing about Belle (and this only my opinion), I think the reason she was attacked in the Final Egg-like base and not in this facility, was because of her coding module. Here's what I mean: we saw throughout the years that Eggman uses high-tech coding to his badniks so they can be controlled, but as the years gone by, Eggman needs to upgrade himself, so to compensate that he rewrites/updates his own coding. In the Final Egg-like base, the badniks have the, what I consider, the ADV Coding ('ADV' standing for Adventure), while the Egg Pawns have the ADV2.0/MOD Coding ('MOD' stands for Modern). What do you think?
By the way, and this is just a question, but was Eggman or Robotnik, in the Archie series, able to create fusion badniks? I have a faint idea that in the early days of Archie, Robotnik use something like this...
I can only confirm that he made fusion badniks in fleetway, not sure about archie, but it is PRETTY big.

Belle seeing Eggman's face on a monitor most likely and maybe talking to him will be probably what sets the record straight for her, that her creator/father Mr. Tinker is no more. There is only Dr. Ivo Robotnik aka Dr. Eggman now. Though it will be interesting to see Eggman reaction to Belle.

I have a theory with the portals:
Maybe eggman researched the warp topaz before it was well... Destroyed... And using that research he tried to replicate its properties and ended up creating portals to alternate dimensions that he experimented on and ran tests in.
They seem more like little pocket dimensions to me.
I loved the nods and references to Portal in this issue. We already figured Eggman as Tinker made Belle with Badnik parts like he made that Eggman Land Amusement park in the village. I don't consider her a badnik though, more like a Goodnik. I'm glad Tangle sees the good in her and is willing to help her like she did Whisper. This is why she's my favorite IDW character and she's my favorite animal. As for Sonic and the gang, it looks like Eggman is about to have fun with them. I like the weird combinations of different badniks. Can't wait for issue 39.

She is like a fairy puppet version of Gamma, and considering how much Eggman loves that line, that isn't very surprising.
The one thing I'll compliment the IDW comics on is the consistency and continuity staying true while providing their own spin on things.
While the Archie comics did introduce loads of new characters are tons of different lore to pick from I prefer the IDW comics with characters like Tangle and Whisper and the acknowledgment of previous game events without trying to bullshit their way through something. IDW Sonic actually feels like Sonic and the fanbase collaborating to make something rather than ruin something like with what happened with Archie.
One question, you're a fan of "IDW" aren't you (not Sonic) Like, I think I saw you comment the same thing (compare Archie and IDW Sonic comics, different companies from decades) in all the reviews. I know you do it just to promote IDW comics and say it’s better (since it’s ... I think? Sorry, is that many of the things that appear here I’ve seen in other comics, like these "scary badnicks" appear at Fleetway Comic, but because I’m IDW I see fans giving a lot of credits that make it perish ... strange) except that it’s looking like an act of desperation for IDW to look better than it really is (although it’s good). Can you tell me why? (No offense and disrespect, of course.)

@@FrostTheHobidon Eh, Webby's much smarter than Tangle, though. Also, Tangle has a bit more zing than Webby. I'd say Tangle's more similar to Dolly from 101 Dalmatian Street.

@@FrostTheHobidon I didn't say she was. I was just saying Webby is smarter; she's studied up on a lot of things, where as Tangle hasn't. I was mostly comparing her to Dolly from 101DS because of their shared "Screw the rules! I wanna have fun!" attitude. That being said, Tangle right here is acting like how Sonic SHOULD have been acting this whole time. Tangle may be less experienced than Sonic, but Sonic's reckless decisions have been far more costly than Tangle's reckless decisions; but I digress. I'll just leave it at it's nice to see Tangle being understanding of Belle, as she can see for herself that Belle means no harm.

Apologies for not doing my usual analysis from last time. Decided to take a break from it up until now. But, now I am back.
Initializing:
Having observed this issue, I figured some answers were gonna pop up, but it does ask more questions.
While we now know this is just a pocket simulation designed to test new tech and repurposed machines, this begs the question of whether or not the hybridized constructs can even succeed. Although, Something tells me they won't.
The revelation for Belle to cpme to terms with the fact she is in fact a Badnik, must come off as saddening for her. To learn her father is an egomaniac hellbent on dominating the world is most unfortunate.
But, She does follow in the footsteps of Gamma, Omega, and even Gemerl. Though, if she does gets some answers with Tangle acting as emotional support, I imagine it is one final farewell from Tinker, which is more than what can be said for previous robots Eggman made.
TL: DR; Not much to say here other than this builds on what was established before. While some answers have been given, questions still remain. Highly recommend this issue
So my theory about the tower wasn't too far off, It being one of Eggman's R&D faculties and since it was out in the ocean It was probably one of the Eggman bases that didn't get wrecked by Zombots. Eggman sending Or-bot and Cu-bot to oversee it makes sense, those two were built for doing whatever tedious assignments and chores their creator tells them to do. As for Eggman himself he was either focusing on some other problems or projects but more likely just taking a break from recent events in his man-cave.
Im really looking forward to see interactions between metal sonic and bell, since both seem to be quite the opposite

The place reminds me of the Abandoned City in Nier Automata. Ironic considering this arc is essentially about Belle trying to discover her identity.

This oddly felt quite insanely short of an issue for a months wait. Also I think this plot arc seems quite generic. Almost as if it's copied some of it off of Sonic X where he makes robots out of appliances. It ain't really fitting well for me TBH. I don't mind the portal concept though. But Srly back to the badknicks already?
So as always do I want to give my opinion on this issue here and this time did Megabeat man already address quite a few of my most mention worthy points so lets start there with good old Belle.
So as he already pointed out is it quite silly that the Egg Pawns would just ignore her.
I mean for one as already mentioned in the review didn't there ignore her back in NOT-Final Egg (and as the new security on the Eggnet triggered them were there certainly on the most recent firmware). But beyond that is there also the fact that E-102 Gamma and E-123 Omega were considered enemies the moment there deleted Eggman out of there Master Registry and Gemerl the final E-121 Phi that was designed to be able to even merge with certain Egg machines is also not treated as a badnik and more and all 3 of them being directly build by a fully aware Eggman would have far more of a reason to treat them as part of the army than Belle (its the same issue as with the cypher all over again just even more ridicules (unless this is an long setup and Belle is going to be revealed to be a sleeper agent Bot the whole time and the first situation was staged))
But despite of contriver her existence has been so far i am interested in where her story is going from now (is she staying good, will she turn evil, will she ragingly die standing up to her creator) my only fear current still is that its just going to be a more contrived retreat of Tangle and Whispers story.
And I have to question Eggman again here. This time less on his resources (as its build in the ocean and so mostly out of reach for Zombots) mostly because what was he expecting to happen when he build a device that causes storm (even if by accident) for Sonic to NOT show up eventually because there is clearly something not write going on?
(also Eggman nothing against your idea to combine old Robot modes but was creating a device that put such a huge target on it really your best idea given that you tried that one out without the need for custom special stages just fine back with the Egg lancer but maybe we get to see next issue a few test that actually justify such a resource investment and being so easy to spot(Maybe we even get to see Eggman detonate a Nuke and Sonic and friends survive by hiding in a refrigerator))
So now that we have talked about the Egg, the doll and to some less than minor extent the lemur lets now move on to the Heroes.
And first of all do I have the feeling that Evan just forgot the first 2 issues of this comic (and to some extent even the previous one) as Tails tracking Eggman's bots control via Wifi would have certainly been a nice thing for him to be able to do back in Issue 1 when he suspected that someone was coordinating the Badniks again which would be something he could have totally checked out in no time at all by doing exactly that.
But also because Evan ones again can't power scale and I say its arguably worse than the last time.
I obviously refer to the scene in which the heroes lock them self into the house to avoid a fight with all the badniks BUT why are there doing this not only did we saw just teams of Sonic and Tails and Sonic and Amy perform great against entire legions in issues 1 and 2 respectively but what makes it worse than last time is that the very previous issue did these exact 3 Characters easily broke into the tower by brute force against the ever so much tougher Egg Pawns with no idea how many opponents there maybe would have to face. So really there should just pull the Sonic Unleashed intro/Sonic Cd Epilogue these composite badniks like its nothing. (and we saw that these new ones aren't any stronger than the old ones in this very issue so that isn't an argument.)
And properly a nanopic but Tails spouted unusual amounts of technobabble this issue usually does he know how much science talk his friends can comprehend (but I guess it isn't unprecedented as he did exactly that to poor knuckles after he asked how extreme-gear work).
My personal highlight in this issue was when Eggman talked through the toaster it made sense in-universe and was really funny to me.
you see, they ignored belle cause unlike everyone else, they weren't R-ist against wood.
that or belle has some kind of robot mind control that causes her eyes to glow more than usual, probably not the case, but eh, i'm calling it for now.

i say wait a little, we still don't fully know what eggman's making, all we know is that it's probably something that screws over physics.

i don't know, maybe it's a psychological thing? like they're too weirded out by the frankenstein badniks to really fight back? like you know how someone with arachnophobia is more than able to kill a spider but they would much rather not be in the proximity of one.

Well but than have I to again point out how unless my Belle is a sleeper agent theory is right would there be no reason why the nice and loving Mr. Tinker would have put Robot Mindcontrol into her.
I mean Eggman was pretty clear to Sonic that this entire space warp here was entirely done to create test chambers in which Eggman can stress test his new inventions. Which is why I hope that in the upcoming issues we see some new machines that really justify having an entire dimension just to stress test them.
But the Robots them self need the Wifi to work as coordinated as Metal had them fight so there fallowing the logic from this issue had to be a wireless signal that Tails should have just been able to pick up and lead them to Metal long before he got to take over Angle Island.
Dude even if its based on the more realistic Sonic Generation ascetics are the Sonic 1 badniks still some of the less threatening ones in the series and putting a buzz bombers jet engine on a catterkiller or a Motorbugs well on a chomper really don't make them all that much more scary especially given some of Eggman's other big boss robots, the hellish demons from Shadow, 06 and Unleashed and I thing more importantly THE ROBOT ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE FROM JUST A WEEK AGO IN WHICH TAILS AND AMY FOUGHT EVIL ROBOT TURNED VERSIONS OF NORMAL PEOPLE THAT WERE AGAINST THERE WILL TURNED INTO LIVE DESTROYING MACHINES AND WHICH DIRECT CONTACT WITH WOULD DOOM THEM TO THE SAME FATE.
And yes all that caps was needed because I don't want to understate the horror that the Metal Virus arc (and really Forces before it)should be our heroes that there still fought in to the last breath.

(and i still think its a stretch that Belle could overwrite them given that again Gemerl another such high class Robot was also kicked out of the chain of command just as Omega and Gamma (Also Belle is such a drama queen thinking she has to be evil because she was build by Eggman despite her interacting with 2 other Eggman Empire deserters just in the last story)

I don't know can't remember sonic getting scared when Eggman unified the Egg Beatle and the Egg Devil ray to create the Egg Lancer back in Unleashed.
I guess it would be quite hard to explain an on air running Hover mechanism (with only the blacks arms sorcerers being even more efficient not needing any fuel at all)

i can only guess it's probably magnetism or something, frankly, i wish the extreme gears had visible jets like shadow's shoes, way easier to understand.
yes, we're going to talk about the tornado.
now, as you know, biplanes aren't as fast as monoplanes because the bracing and wing-structure produces a lot of drag, and as you know me, i like unnecessary amounts of attention to detail, like what things sonic would bring with him on his world trips, what he would wear (yes, because i intend to give him _some_ form of clothing), ect, and likewise, what kind of plane he'd use, and in all honesty? i can't for the life of me think of why sonic would use something that's _not_ fast and fuel-efficient like a biplane, so i frankly ask you, what are my options here?
A) do i put a ramjet engine on the tornado 1 like those "Polikarpov I-153 Chaika" biplanes that can have a ramjet modification? but that might ruin tails' role in upgrading the tornado later on.
B) do make the tornado a tandem wing air-craft instead of a biplane air-craft? so i can keep the whole "sonic stands on top of the plane while it's flying." iconography?
C) do i just say sonic's tornado 1 has a modified engine that uses a power ring/chaos energy for fuel-efficiency and extra power?
D) do i just give up and make the tornado 1 a monoplane?
and before you ask about the tornado 2, that depends:
is the tornado 2's "X-wing" configuration aerodynamic? cause it seems like it to me, and if it really _is_ aerodynamic then i see no reason to change it.
if not, then i still don't see an issue with it, because it's a transforming air-craft, so i can make it whatever i want.
tldr, i'm less likely to change the tornado 2.

Don't get your hopes up about Belle I really don't know if she can be programmed as an evil badnik. It's a bit ironic what happened to Mr. Tinker being turned back as Eggman by Starline and probably she might end up in the same fate as Eggman not being the same personality for a period of time. I think that might be the twist for this arc evil pinocchio.
Starline didn't bring back Eggman; Metal Sonic did. "Mr. Tinker" didn't get his memory back until he laid a hand on Metal Sonic, who he was attempting to repair out of pity when he saw him come in.
Evan's established her as a good guy character, she ain't just going to do a 1.80 make her turn bad unless Eggman corrupts her somehow but I doubt that will happen. Besides, I believe Belle would rather be destroyed than be turned evil and be forced to hurt people. That's not what she was built for. This story meant to be about her accepting the fact that the person she thought was her creator never truly existed and was a false persona created by Eggman having Amnesia.
