WASH YOU HAIR BEFORE IT GET DRY AND TANGLE!! If your hair dries around the fourth or fifth day, it is time to do your routine again. Do not try to stretch your wash and go if your hair is already dry. You’ll end up with more breakage and tangles that can be avoided. 🙃

What about if you don't have time to wash your hair again? I usually stretch mine to about 5-6 days (Sunday-Friday usually) with a refresher at around day 3 or 4. I'm in school full time and I work part time. I do not have time for a full wash routine in the middle of the week. That's why I do a refresher halfway through. Is that bad?

Ashley Bates I mean, if you aren’t prone to buildup then, refreshing is fine. I can’t do that. Products will just flakes on my hair and cause build up.

Honestly any girl that does wash n gos can testify to this.. it’s a protective style due to the low manipulation. And the secret to it is that you are raking in moisture to each curl. And if you find the right products... that moisture locks In better for a long time. Literally all I do in the morning release the pineapple spray water & fav leave in , define Lil frizzy parts. From my point of view my wash n go keeps my hair moisturized better than braids, buns etc. my hair is moisturized from root to tip for a long time. Honestly that wash n go Has a secret

Jaelen emphasize on the importance of finding what works for your hair and paying attention to your hair as you are doing it. I just started playing more attention to my hair. @brandywoods5329 5 років тому +8

  •  5 років тому +182

One of my best tips for growth is cutting combs out of your detangling routine. I’ve noticed personally, when I use combs & brushes on a regular, my ends get so trashy over time and I end up having to dust my ends way more often which doesn’t help retain length cuz I keep having to cut. I cut them out and stuck to finger detangling and my hair has thanked me.

    • @tiahnagrace6325
      @tiahnagrace6325 5 років тому +13

I just started finger detangling, and the part that's hard for me to get over is my hair doesn't feel as smooth vs. when I use a comb. Is this normal, or should I figure out a different way to finger detangle?

    •  5 років тому +11

Tiahna Grace personally I like to rake and smooth my hair when I finger detangle. That removes the tangles and smooths my cuticle. It will definitely get easier the more you do it. Invest in a great conditioner and great deep conditioner for detangling!

I just started doing this ever since I realized my hair hasn’t been growing at all. Every time I detangle with combs in the shower I have soo much small pieces of broken hair in the shower. I randomly thought hey maybe combs just aren’t for me.. I now only detangle with a comb if really needed to outside of the shower with a detangling product. My hair did grow though and it’s only been a month and I see a half inch difference. Combs really do cause breakage in my hair. I feel like combs aren’t for everyone

Wash n gos make my hair flourish!!! The minute I switch up my styles, like a twist out or braid out I notice a big change in my hair. It’s so hard to maintain elasticity in my hair when I do those styles that require stretching. My hair tends to be a lot dryer when I do those styles. Wash n gos are low manipulation and don’t add any extra stress on my hair.

It's craazzyy because contrary to popular belief protective styling actually hindered my hair growth these past 6 or 7 months due to a lot of manipulation and dryness. I was thinking back to when I first went natural and I did not protective style as much and my hair FLOURISHED. I found my moisture balance and was deep conditioning often. I also used to never think I had a real curl pattern too, it's crazy what a little TLC and patience can due. My tip would be learn your hair and don't follow every natural hair myth. What works for one curl may not work for another, and that could even be on your own head top

I’ve been one to say wash n go’s aren’t for me but between her and a few other amazing women on UA-cam I’ve mastered a wash n go with no single strand knots. She talked about routines but I want to add small details work. One thing I noticed when she does a wash n go she puts leave in all over her hair then she adds the gel. I used to add leave in and immediately slap gel on and then wonder why my hair dry. I noticed when I added it first it and allowed the leave in to soak into my hair it was so soft and curled naturally on its own and it turn I needed less gel. Also I only shingle the front of my hair now because it tangles so bad if I do. That’s just my take on it and I’m still learning.

necilya for me I will heat stretch on day 1 but if your hair can stay stretched banded I would just do that instead. Also I don’t shingle I used to get a ton of ssk doing it so I stopped about a yr ago and noticed a difference. I do not over define my hair at best I’ll use a hard gel(eco, style factor) once a month to be cute but 9 times out of 10 it’s a hair mousse because on like day four I can do big twists to re stretch it. I am high porosity tightly coiled so I don’t know if it will work but just try out different things

I used to get single strand knots when I did wash and go’s. The problem was I wasn’t using enough water nor product to really coat my strands. My wash and go’s would only last 2 days max but now I have learned to fully coat my strands and moisturize correctly and my hair is flourishing. My hair used to be mid back length and now it’s almost waist length. I owe it all to wash and go’s and protective styling and learning how to do it correctly!

I transitioned for 2 years and have been natural for a year I did predominantly wash and gos for the year and my hair grew so fast because I was constantly keeping it moisturized. A mistake that people do when they protective style all the time is not caring for their hair while in one. They get braids for two months and don't moisturize at all. Put in twists or braids with their own hair and just let it frizz and dry out because it's their time off from doing their hair. With natural hair and the risk of becoming dry, you should always be maintaining the moisture no matter what 💯🤗

I can put my hair in a low puff, or half up half down. Its easier to moisturize and refreshed. I put a bonnet or a scarf on when my hair doesn’t need to be out and that has helped with friction and it rubbing against things. & You’re right consistency is key! Everyone says moisture and scalp stimulation is the key to growth.... Like how do u do that with weave or a wig glued to ur forehead? I understand twists because if you get them done right you can shower and stuff with them in but then they don't last as long so that kind of defeats the purpose....

  • @Deklectic

I love wash n gos now that my hair is longer and I actually know what the hell im doing because at the beginning of growing my hair out It was a whole hot mess for one I wasn't thoroughly detangling my hair one of the biggest reasons a wash n go can completely fail two I wasn't moisturizing my hair thoroughly coating each strand i was being two stingy on the product application being the cheap skate I am it took me awhile to learn my hair and what works and doesn't work once I got it down packed almost two years later my hair is growing like a weed and its sooo much easier to maintain now my biggest secret is proper thorough detangling I finger detangle now that my hair is longer before I use to think finger detangling wasnt for me but I was shook by the way my detangling got easier not using combs its not for everybody I get it were all different not everyone's hair responds well to finger detangling some peoples hair needs a good tool to get them shed hairs out. But wash n gos are my go to now it clumps my curls to together keeping them in formation and from tangling up during the week vs if I wore my fro out.. Sometimes i still like just a simple fro. 😎 Im a 4a so its easier for my curls to clump and stay in place for a week or more but if you have a more fluffy harder to clump hair type twist and braids outs are great options because either way itll keep your curls stretched so they don't ravel around one another. My hair in its most natural state is fluffy and a fro but in a wash n go state I have defined bouncy coils. Find what works for you and use her tips we all have beautiful hair i dont care how loose or tight your curls are. I prefer to watch those who have tighter curls than mine I get tips from all type 3 and 4 curl types and customize them to work for my hair. Love your hair and treat it like fine silk whether its natural or relaxed its your crown. 👍🏾

i think you read my mind bc this is the video i needed!! before i got my haircut, i used to do wash & go’s religiously and my hair grew soooo much and my length was just poppin sis. it was colored but healthy. now that i’m trying to grow it again, barely any color in my hair, all i get is damn single strand knots and dry hair. like what’s really going on?! but imma start using these tips and stay on top of it! wish me luck 🤦🏽‍♀️💗

I did WNGs for a year. All that manipulation broke off my hair 😭 I guess I don't know what a good routine is for my hair. I deep conditioned every shampoo, co-washed every 2-3 days, Ieave-in and gel, and breakage city.
My problems are tangles and knots at the ends and tangled, puffy roots. WNGs don't hold définition long enough at my roots even when I apply gel. So all that shrinkage just lead to problems. I've been doing two strand twists for the last few months and I'm finally retaining length again.

Wash and go’s are cute but I feel like for my length they are not for me. (Not that I don’t think I have WNG hair) My hair is about collar bone length and when I try to do a wash and go my hair shrinks up to my ear or above. And with my texture my hair coils and clumps together a lot so my hair gets smushed every time. What I need help with is no matter what I do to stretch my hair to get the length I want, banding or similar steps, my hair shrinks up.

Maybe it’s the gel and I need to use only creams.
