Wow, what an incredibly enlightening and detailed video! As someone living in Germany, I've traveled to the UK four times this year alone to catch the 15/70mm IMAX re-screenings of Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception and this month's Batman trilogy. It's fascinating to see how the classic 70mm film projection process works, especially for such iconic movies. Dunkirk, with its extensive use of the finely-grained Kodak Vision3 50D 5203 negative film, stood out particularly for its exquisite detail. The meticulous preparation that goes into lacing the projector, checking the sound system, and ensuring everything runs smoothly is truly impressive. And learning about the role of the xenon lamps in the projector, their water-cooling system, and how they're filled with xenon gas under high pressure, was especially intriguing. Keep up the great work, bored_tech! I'm eagerly looking forward to reaching the 3000 subscriber milestone and to seeing more of these insightful videos in the future. Subscribed and liked!
i just saw Dune Part 2 at the IMAX Ronson theatre. Oh my goodness, what an experience it was. I loved the feeling of being dwarfed by the screen, the crystal clear imagery, the fact the audio was so booming I could feel my seat vibrating/ It was so immersive, and itn felt like I was looking into a window of another world and it felt so palpable and real, texture and light came across so well in IMAX
First: I want IMAX film cell! United States, York, Pennsylvania. Second: What great production quality in your videos. I was able to tour the projection booth at the Cinemark IMAX in Tulsa, Oklahoma several years ago. The manager described the process of lacing (I believe he called it "threading"), but actually seeing it, and in such detail, is a real treat. Thank you for your work on this!
First: Thank you for the entry! Second: Can you imagine that this video was shot on iPhone 13 and DJI Pocket II 🤘😎. Correct, some people call it "Threading" others call it "Lacing". And thanks for you feed back, really appreciate it.
I got to see interstellar at the BFI imax back on a trip back in april of this year and I honestly have a massive amount of respect for these projectionists. If I were in their position I would be freaked out by how valuable the film is. Seeing this movie in 70mm imax film left me speechless and was easily the best moviegoing experience I ever had. I want an Imax film cell, Adelaide, Australia. Cheers.
This is way more work and thought put into something i never thought about than i would ever have imagined. And yes, Nolan is Nolan, but this quite literally is an art in itself
Definitely the best video sharing how imax 70mm projection room works! Your VO helps a lot in understanding the procedures, great job! If you can make a newer video about Nolan's Oppenheimer projection on both imax 70mm and imax laser, that would be amazing!!
I Want IMAX Film Cell United Kingdom, London Love how all your videos never miss the fine details, yet remain entertaining and are able to immerse audiences including myself. Keep it up!
I have seen IMAX Projector Lacing videos before too, and every single time, I am equally fascinated seeing the whole process. Credit goes to Christopher Nolan for still keeping this glorious tech alive. We used to have 4 IMAX 70mm venues in India, but sadly today there are none! I'd love to experience this at least once in my life before it goes extinct from the whole planet. I Want IMAX Film Cell. India, Varanasi.

(it'd be super cool if you can visit the Canadian headquarter some time!) I also want the film cell haha, I'm in the UK so hopefully Royal mail can reach me.
Cannot believe how interestingly complex this process is. My father once worked as a movie projectionist in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Sometimes he would cut out a frame from a roll as a souvenir. I think he worked with classical 35 mm type systems around the time they introduced the platters instead of one roll on top and bottom.

A few years ago, I thought all movies were made like this then, I found out how they were projected digitally and realized how dumb I was to possibly think that, it is very inefficient to roll the reel and how impractical it would be to actually make movies like this now. After watching lotta videos about IMAX, and how the magic actually lies in the physical frames containing more data than the current cameras could process is actually boggling and fascinating to think so, Thank you for showing everyone what's going on behind the scenes and the staff handling them, haven't seen any other video out there showing the actual process of putting together the frames, really informative. I want an IMAX film, Kerala, India.
This is such an incredible process! I love watching movies on IMAX 70mm film and will always go out of my way to watch a movie in that format when available. I live in New York where we have the AMC Lincoln Square IMAX and it is always an incredible experience. I will be seeing Oppenheimer in that format this Thursday night. Great video! Absolutely fascinating to see what happens behind the scenes. We take so much for granted in our lives; knowing how things are done that we normally don't see is just amazing. Thank you so much. And if the giveaway is still going: I want IMAX film cell. Australia, Melbourne. (I definitely want to see Oppenheimer at the IMAX theatre here - the only one in the southern hemisphere showing it in the 70mm print form.)
Another cool video would be a 70mm IMAX dome. The way the projector rises to position leads to a very interesting film path. I've seen it in person, through tinted glass, but an in depth video would be great. I want IMAX film cell. USA, Huntsville, AL
Nice run down and well edited presentation. Friend of the family use to run a digital IMAX (aka. LiMAX) and we got to watch a movie from the booth. Not the best way to watch a movie, but it was done more for the cool factor. I want an IMAX Film Cell. Vacaville, CA, USA.
It is simply astonishing how this works. Unfortunately I'm very far from any 70mm projection, but just by seeing this video I felt my heart warmer. 😆 There are fantastic directors working with digital nowadays, Pedro Costa to give an example, but Nolan must be praised for his commitment with film. Thank you for this incredible video and channel. God bless. If I still can participate: I want IMAX film cell! Brazil, Cláudio (MG)
That was a super cool video. Looking forward to seeing Oppenheimer this week in 70mm. Thanks for sharing! Not sure if I'm too late but.. I want IMAX Film Cell, Canada, Calgary
When I worked as a projectionist running 15/70 systems, we had to move the platters by hand, as in two guys lifting the platter... it was a little ridiculous. Fortunately we didn't run feature length films.
So cool to see the process! I saw Interstellar at the BFI IMAX 70mm in London when it premiered. Took a trip from Sweden pretty much just for that, worth it! :-) and of course I want the IMAX film cell, Sweden, Stockholm! :-D
that's so nostalgic (yet new) and exciting for recalling how IMAX 70mm projection works! only 70mm celluloid film brings true and genuine IMAX experiences. so very miss them as I can no longer experience it in Hong Kong, as the IMAX film system is no longer exist after renovation of HK Space Museum IMAX theater! (btw, Hong Kong was once have a 70mm IMAX commercial venue, and luckily i watched two of the IMAX 3D documentaries there! that blew my mind! but i regret that i didn't watch Dark Knight there.) hope these film projection demonstration videos can allow everyone to remember how celluloid 70mm film can bring the magic! I want an IMAX Film Cell if the giveaway is still going on, Hong Kong. Thanks!
Very fascinating. I was able to see a film in IMAX for the first time a few years ago and I was smiling the whole way through because I’d never seen anything else like it. Unfortunately the mall that the screen is in is almost abandoned, so I’m not sure if it will be around much longer. I want IMAX Film Cell - New Zealand, Auckland
Fantastic video, im actually getting an opportunity to poke my head in the booth on opening night of Oppenheimer for a 70mm IMAX showing and i am deliriously excited I'd also love to enter for an IMAX film cell for Dunkirk - San Diego, United States
Amazing content. I’d love to know how they colour grade imax film, or if it’s done in a lab chemically, or in a computer then reformatted back to film. I have gone back to using colour film for taking photographs rather than digital snaps, and it’s amazing the clarity you get out of it. I love the analogue world!
I'm getting pumped for the IMAX Oppenheimer and this content was really in depth and your video quality was really detailed. Thank you. I want IMAX film cell Melbourne, Australia
Super interesting process. Will be witnessing my first 70mm IMAX screening soon if everything goes well! Can't wait. I want IMAX Film Cell, Germany, Hamburg
I always want to watch 70mm Imax. These are incredible videos. I am very surprised by your subscriber count. Hopefully it increases very quickly. I Want IMAX Film Cell Dublin, Ireland.
@bore_tech thanks for the review. i love watching all films in the cinema. but recently seeing the dim lights on during the movie is distracting. which IMAX screen and which normal screen would you recomend that have lights actually off during the movie in london? thanks in advance also which imax has better legroom as a tall person.
wow, such an interesting process to set the projector up. I wonder if eventually more filmmakers will push the industry to use this format, the cost of filming are so high. I want the IMAX film cell, Germany - berlin
There is more than enough room for a soundtrack on IMAX 70 mm film. At 11:55, just look at how much wasted space there is beyond the sprocket holes. Historically that space would be used by 4 channels of magnetic soundtrack. A digital encoding could easily fit multiple channels of audio in that space optically. Smaller film formats manage to do it. But it's easier and less expensive to get audio from a disc or hard drive than from film.
If IMAX uses bass management, what is the frequency range of the sub bass (20-120hz or 20-70hz) and is it set +10db than the full range like the LFE channel ?
i want a imax film cell. I am a former projectionist that ran 35mm film. I would like a imax film cell to show my grandchild what film has envolved to.
Hello, today only I bumped into your channel and must say that my thirst to know about the IMAX tech is getting quenched by watching your videos. Another cool video would be a 70mm IMAX dome. The way the projector rises to position leads to a very interesting film path. I've seen it in person, through tinted glass, but an in depth video would be great.
I want IMAX film cell. USA, Huntsville, AL
Thank you for your entry!
Cool idea! Unfortunately I don't think that we have OMNIMAX in the UK.

What a great tour at IMAX Museum. Thanks dude for your dedication to make such Great video.
I don't have any 70mm film movie theater in my country. I hope to see 70mm IMAX one day.
I want IMAX film cell, Portugal, Leiria.
It is simply astonishing how this works. Unfortunately I'm very far from any 70mm projection, but just by seeing this video I felt my heart warmer. 😆
There are fantastic directors working with digital nowadays, Pedro Costa to give an example, but Nolan must be praised for his commitment with film.
Thank you for this incredible video and channel. God bless.

I want IMAX Film Cell, Canada, Calgary
The 70mm IMAX print of 'Oppenheimer', with its 180 minute runtime is 11 miles long!
Great video!
I want IMAX Film Cell
Canada, Ottawa
Thank you for the entry!
The more and more I watch these the more I doubt that all the extra faff for Imax films is not worth it!
😭What I wouldn't do to be able to see Interstellar in 70mm IMAX...
Not to mention the sound quality for Hans Zimmer's beautiful score!
that's so nostalgic (yet new) and exciting for recalling how IMAX 70mm projection works! only 70mm celluloid film brings true and genuine IMAX experiences. so very miss them as I can no longer experience it in Hong Kong, as the IMAX film system is no longer exist after renovation of HK Space Museum IMAX theater!
(btw, Hong Kong was once have a 70mm IMAX commercial venue, and luckily i watched two of the IMAX 3D documentaries there! that blew my mind! but i regret that i didn't watch Dark Knight there.)
hope these film projection demonstration videos can allow everyone to remember how celluloid 70mm film can bring the magic!
I want an IMAX Film Cell if the giveaway is still going on, Hong Kong. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! It's amazing seeing this whole process!
I want IMAX film cell, Brazil, São Paulo.

I want IMAX film cell, Košice, Slovakia.
Thank you for the entry!
Fantastic video, im actually getting an opportunity to poke my head in the booth on opening night of Oppenheimer for a 70mm IMAX showing and i am deliriously excited
I'd also love to enter for an IMAX film cell for Dunkirk - San Diego, United States
Thank you.

I Want IMAX Film Cell
Dublin, Ireland.
Super interesting as always!

Grazie Mille Stefano!
Are you trying to win all three of them? :-)
@@boredtech yeah you can not consider me, luckiness has already kissed me 🤣
If IMAX uses bass management, what is the frequency range of the sub bass (20-120hz or 20-70hz) and is it set +10db than the full range like the LFE channel ?
That's a good question but i'm afraid that I don't have the answer.
@@boredtechTry the next time to ask this question to the projectionists
I'm stunned that they are allowed to handle that without gloves. I can't see how the particle transfer rollers can remove oily finger prints.
I thought the same!
I was looking for content like this! Great job!

I agree, regular digital cinemas are lacking image quality but "IMAX with LASERS" and "DOLBY CINAMA" looking truly amazing.
I'm in London and would like to see some 70mm. Is the Nolan 70mms still going on at BFI? I don't see any showings...it's just transformers :(
They usually announce their screenings here: whatson.bfi.org.uk/imax/Online/default.asp
