This is easily my favorite laptop segment and I love to see Lenovo and Asus gunning for the MBP16 users and delivering solid alternatives. From the IdeaPad 5i Pro to the Yoga Pro 9i and the G16 and P16 now. So many good options at so many price points.

Bought the AMD Zephyrus G16 with the HX 370 and 4070 and I've had it for a few weeks now. This video literally showcases what that laptop is capable of (basically same chassis, specs) No heat or fan noise in light tasks, acceptable heat during gaming, and great battery life but I found that was the only when there is no accessories plugged into the laptop (USB mice, external storage etc.). The main difference is the 240hz 2k+ OLED display on the Zephyrus G16 I just would rather have the higher refresh rate than a 4k 60hz panel and im pretty sure Asus could've gotten a 4k 120hz for the pro art.

Thank you very much @justjosh for this review. One thing I might add is that the comparison between the ProArt P16 and the MBP M3 Max seems a bit unfair, I would rather compare it with the M3 Pro instead. The price of the M3 Max is a totally diffferent league. Here in Australia, both ProArt P16 and M3 Pro are about 4.5-4.7k, while the M3 Max is at least at 5.8k...
Also, unlike many other channels, yours seems unbiased and isn't becoming a commercial/ad plateform for the brands. You guys wait to release your reviews and perform your own test.
Keep up with the good job. Cheers

I recently upgraded from a 2019 16" mbp to a P16. My use cases are coding and photo editing.
The displays refresh rate doesn't bother me at all when doing these tasks. All my LG monitors are 60hz anyway.
The proart is a fantastic device to edit photos on with its powerful gpu making swift work of exporting or adjusting background blur.
I did have to adjust my workflow for coding as I've been using a mac for 15 years. WSL was a saving grace.
The only disappointing part of this laptop is the trackpad. Apple has spoiled me for too long.

Refresh rate doesn`t bother you because you never tried better. The only reason.
If you tried, you`d never go back to 60. Especially at this price point.

@@D1sconnect that’s not entirely true. My tv and work laptop are 120hz. I’m not saying the higher refresh rate screens don’t have an advantage but for coding or adjusting static photos, it doesn’t bother me that it’s 60hz.

The 60hz, low brightness and extremely wobbly screen is a bit too much at that price point (3000 eur in Europe for the 32 GB / 1TB one, by the way). And feels like paying extra for gimmicks like the touchscreen and the touchpad.

I'm not sure why having OLED they didn't drive it to 120Hz. Though, to be fair, not seeing a reason to have an artificial high refresh rate on a professional laptop. MacBooks technically have 120Hz but their GtG speed is abysmal. They traded off speed to IPS color accuracy, that's understandable. Here? It's already OLED, already on high power consumption and burn-in, why not just show it to work on 120Hz.

The 2025 Zen 5 equipped Yoga 9 Pro 16 should hopefully combine the best of both the Pro Art 16 and the G16: a 3.2K mini LED 120hz 600nit screen, similar thermals & battery life, performance on a par at least. Whether it will be more compact & lighter than the current version however remains to be seen. Certainly Lenovo need to update the designs of all their Yoga laptops as they’re beginning to look very dated and, despite an ever bigger & better choice of internals, all exactly the same (mostly grey) laptop design on the outside.

This feels like 1 iteration away from being on equal footing with the Macbook:
    - A refreshed Ryzen AI processor with even less power draw should make the battery life pretty much on par
    - A somewhat brighter and (maybe) higher refresh rate screen (though I personally don't mind the 60hz)
    - I really don't understand what's stopping these manufacturers from having a haptic touchpad, best in class speakers and webcam
I'm only on Apple because sadly I can't get that good of an experience with the hardware anywhere else. I'd wish to move because I honestly hate the direction Apple is going in as a company. Neither Microsoft is good - but at least I can debloat the Windows.
If this was 95% percent of the Macbook at 75% percent of the price it would be an instant buy. This is clearly a good direction regarding hardware and I'm very excited to see what other innovations will be brought in a future generation. Will follow the ProArt lineup closely.

Interestingly, here in Europe / DE the prices are very different: I can get a decent MacBook Pro 16 (with M3 Pro, 1TB SSD) for ~1700 EUR (but only 8GB RAM), but the ProArt 16 with Ryzen AI 9 starts at 2400 EUR! Sadly, such MBP offers only apply to the 8GB RAM versions, 16 GB is about the same price as the ProArt. Crazy!

Up to 16GB ? I surely hope not. It should be starting from 24 GB and go up to 192 or 256 GB. With a beefy integrated GPU, 16 GB of total RAM is basically 8-12 GB for system / CPU and 4-8 GB for video, which is absolutely a waste of a chip, if you're going to bottleneck it so hard with the non-upgradeable RAM.

@@handlemonium Well, I said already why. You will NOT be able to run ray tracing at 120 FPS and all the rest, if the iGPU is limited to 4 GB of VRAM. How do you think a 4070 would work if it had only 4 GB of VRAM ?
Ok, let's say it's not 4 GB, but 8 GB of VRAM. Now it gets passable. But, then the rest of the system, Windows + the rest has only 8 GB of RAM. Do you think that would be enough ? For some games, especially older ones, if you have nothing else opened, it would. Newer, bigger games... nope. Having a Chrome browser opened to listen to a podcast, well, sucks to be you. Some proffesional program(s) might not even be close to be usable with only 8 GB of RAM. Not to mention Windows bloat.
So, yeah, having Strix Halo with a total of 16 GB of RAM or lower would be a waste.

Josh, your graphics and tables are excellent and I know you put a lot of time into creating them. However you are not leaving them on the screen for nearly engough time for the viewers to absorb and comprehend them. Constantly pausing and backing up the video does not make for a pleasant or coherent experience for the viewer. Don't allow your good efforts to go to waste: Leave the graphs on the screen for a longer time. Please accept this suggestion in the spirit with which it was inteded.

If they would just put a better screen and touchpad and spec it up in graphics, it would be the perfect windows laptop. Graphics card options and screen are worse than the G16 just so Asus doesn't cannibalize on that line of laptops, which is a shame. I hope companies just stop segmenting their own product lines and just release one high end option that is amazing for every task. Lenovo does the same thing with their Legion and Yoga Pro lines and it's frustrating.

Hi! I'm looking for a laptop for studying computer science. I prefer a lightweight, portable model without a dedicated GPU, as I'll primarily be using it at university. And also I would appreciate a good keyboard and high-quality screen.
I've identified four laptops that stand out within my budget. Assuming they are all on sale in my country and prices are all the same (+/- 80 USD) ,which one is the best choice?
    1- Lenovo Yoga 7 2-in-1 (14' ) with Ryzen 8840HS, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 60 Hz WUXGA OLED Display
    2- Huawei Matebook 14 with Ultra 7 155H, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 120 Hz 2.8K OLED Display

Would have been nice to see this laptop as it is but with some changes:
    1. 3:2 aspect ratio.
    2. Try out some ergonomic keyboard design and push the keyboard closer to the user and change the trackpad to be in between the keyboard (also slope the end for comfort).
    3. Just add a matte filter to set on top of the display as accessory.
    4. Add 120/144hz.
    5. Skip nonsense like "dial". Be bold and skip Webcam, loudspeakers, mic (or at least make them able to switch off mechanicalyy); integrate an fitting accessory dock at the base that has loudspeaker, mic, cam, Xtra battery/ maybe some ports.
    6. Swappable batteries, rams and whatnot.
    7. Make it stand dust and water.
    8. Higher and lower nits for in the dark and out in sunshine.
Basically build a laptop that's ergonomic, productive, powerful, build quality (not look), that's last long, is somewhat modular but keeps the laptop for what's it was meant for. The rest could go in to a big dock with its own battery attached to the base.
Just want someone to disrupt this shitty laptop market that is just a bad blend of all...

"2. [...] and change the trackpad to be in between the keyboard" In between the keyboard and what ? I assume you didn't actually meant to have the trackpad between keys.
      5. webcam at the base is absolutely terrible
And... yeah, I think you'll need to wait for Framework to do most of what you ask. It will take some time. And it will be more expensive (regardless if it's Framework or ASUS or anybody else). And my gut feeling tells me it's going to be quite low volume sales.

ProArt's keyboard with 1.7mm key travel is at least one, maybe two tiers above Macbook 16's. ProArt's OLED display is much better than Macbook's, as macbook's screen has terrible response time unlike OLED screens with virtually instantaneous response time. ProArt is significantly lighter (300grams). ProArt arguably has better speakers than Macbook 16, because Macbook's speakers, while technically very good, are terribly tuned (very bassy, makes things sound muffled).
IMO, only things the macbook has advantage over the proart is the CPU and the webcam.

Why on earth do PC laptop makers still feel the need to make really good laptops and shove crappy touchpads in them? I literally do not understand why premium windows laptops do not all have haptic touchpads. Like seriously, Apple was doing this 8 years ago! Lenovo offers like two laptops with that option but those come with displays with horrible PWM flickering that is bad for your eyes or a FHD panel and are overpriced even when on sale, Dell has their XPS lineup which is super overpriced and has many issues including pricing, and finally MIcrosoft has started using them but their surface laptops come with ARM chips that simply cannot run a lot of games and apps.
Why is it that only Apple seems to be the very basics right? Laptop build quality is superb with aluminum frames milled out of a single block of aluminum, screens are awesome, keyboards are great feeling with a standard layout, the laptop feels downright cold during normal usage and gets mildly warm when maxing out the cpu and gpu together, no fan noise at all, battery lasts more than a full day, and best of all the touchpad is fantastic. I find myself using it instead of a mouse sometimes by accident!
Do PC laptop manufacturers think that people don't use these LAPtops on their laps??
