    Good information from you, i really appreciate the effort you're doing to make sure we have the right and vital informations about community colleges thank you alot.
    I wanna ask a question and the question goes thus: Is there an age limit for international students who want to apply for community college probably 30yrs upward can apply and if the person apply i hope the embassy won't question him/her cos of the person age.

    • @FromNestToWings
      @FromNestToWings  2 роки тому

      From the college's perspective, there is no age limit. The average age of college students in the US is 26...with the number of students headed after high school at a young age, the average age tells you that many, many people are in college are above the age of 30. As for your country's age limits, we have no specific knowledge. We suggest you contact them directly to determine any particular restrictions they have on student VISAs.

      @@vladclad8663 Happy to help! The community college will look at your cumulative GPA. If your grade point average gets better year to year that is great. The GPA needed to get into a community college depends from school to school, but generally, community colleges are looking to see if you could handle the high school curriculum. If you could, they will grant you admissions. If you struggled, they may ask that you take a few preparatory classes before you enroll full time. Ask the admissions officer at the community college you are interested in to review your transcript and let you know if you are competitive. They will be happy to do so. Good luck!

    • @FromNestToWings
      @FromNestToWings  3 роки тому +1

      Each community college establishes its own admissions criterion, so call the admissions office and ask what standard that school uses. Generally, they don't require standardized tests (ACT or SAT) but that is another question to ask the admissions office. As for your GPA, if yours is strong, keep it that way. If your GPA is not as strong as you would like, then do what you can to bolster your GPA between now and when you graduate. Seeing a rise in a student's GPA is seen as a strong sign that a student is ready for college. Remember that your high school counselor is a great resource as you move forward with your education.

Will we face any challenges if we don't have a US residential address. Will Community College accept US citizen who have studied schools outside US. Will he be eligible for any federal or state scholarships? Any other steps that we need to be aware of considering our situation. Thanks for your help. Looking forward for more such videos.

      Kheda, your son will be able to attend community college in the US as a US citizen if he meets the requirements for acceptance into the school. The best advice we can give is to have your son contact the admissions office at the community colleges he would like to attend. Their staff is well versed in walking students through the application process. He will list his qualifications based on his experience in Indian schools. There may be requirements beyond submitting an application. For example, they may require he take the TOEFL to ensure his English language skills are strong enough to support his academic work. Your son can file the FAFSA to apply for US Federal Student Aid. Here is a statement that outlines considerations for filling out the FAFSA: www.quora.com/How-do-I-fill-out-a-FAFSA-form-if-Im-a-US-citizen-living-abroad. This will take some work if for no other reason than the time difference and mailing distance. Email helps with some of this, but there may be documents that are best delivered by mail. Start with the community college that will best meet his needs but have another one or two that would work researched should the initial school not be a good match. You can research school offerings and costs on the internet. Your son should feel free to email or call any admissions office to ask more questions. That contact information will be available on the school's website. Best wishes!

    How do we insert scholarships and that thing that's made for community colleges that works like a scholarship sorry can't remember

    • @FromNestToWings
      @FromNestToWings  3 роки тому

      To find scholarship opportunities for community college, we suggest that you: 1) contact the community college financial aid office to find out about the scholarships they administer; 2)check with your high school counselor (even if you graduated a while ago) to see if there are any scholarships they know of that you could apply to; 3) apply for the FAFSA (studentaid.gov) immediately. If you apply today, it will apply for Fall 2021, there are grants, loans, and authorization for work-study jobs available from the federal government. Filing will also help with scholarships that require such. If you are employed, check to see if your employer offers financial support for college. The other idea we can offer is to do an online search for scholarships specific to your experiences and opportunities. Watch our video on scholarships to get more information on how to find more scholarships.

      We suggest you select a few schools you would be interested in attending and then contact their international student support office (can be found on their websites, but they may have different names). They will help you understand what they require. We also suggest that you start working to take the TOEFL - English language test. That will be required by most, if not all, of the schools you choose. Then, make sure you have copies of your education history in written form (transcript), and you know what office in your former schools will send official transcripts if you request such. Then, start the applicaiton process. If financing is an issue, make sure you meet with someone in their financial aid office to determine if there are funding sources available to you. The international student staff is generally very helpful. They understand the challenges presented and want to help you be successful. Good Luck!

      Diego, there are a lot of correct answers to this depending on your status, what state you are in, what school(s) you are interested in attending, and many other issues. We suggest that you ask the experts. Call the admissions office and/or the international student office of any school you are interested in attending. Ask them clear, direct questions. One really good question to ask is if, in that state and at that school, you are able to take ANY classes during the time used to establish residency. Some allow for a few hours/courses and some restrict to work alone. Find out the information that is specific to your situation.

If you are planning for the future, talking to the school to which you would like to transfer early in the process can help you avoid course credits that won't transfer. A community college is a higher education option that services students wishing to earn an Associates Degree, specific topical certificates, and in some cases trade or vocational training.
