Vauxhall Insignia - Strange Noise and Vibration Issue - Example and Resolution

- Do you have an issue with a random buzzing, mooing, whining, moaning and vibration on your Vauxhall Insignia 2.0l Diesel ?
The annoying noise is a common problem on the A20DTH engine and can easily be resolved.
Here's a video showing an example of the noise and how to fit a vacuum reservoir inline with your Wastegate Actuator Solenoid Valve.
A recent link to purchase it can be found here: (correct as of 19th March 2021)
www.autovaux.co.uk/55587330-t...
I followed this video in 2019. It’s still working perfectly in 2024!!
Thanks Matt, appreciate the update. It's amazing how annoying the sound of the buzzing is, and it's truly lovely once it has stopped. Glad it all worked out for you and thanks for leaving a comment.
I had this problem twice,I've changed the solenoid valve at the Vauxhall garage two times in 7 months...now I saw your video with an easy and cheapest mode to fix it :) !! Thanks mate !! 👍
You're welcome.. Glad it helped.
I have the same problem it started a while ago with just a little sound now and again but has got worse and worse and is now most of the time, blip the throttle pedal and it stops it briefly sometimes. I am going to try a small inline fuel filter to act as the vacuum reservoir.
Now had the inline fuel filter in the bottom pipe on the solenoid valve fitted for a couple of days happy to report that the problem has ceased no other issues have occurred. The inline fuel filter was bought off ebay 2 for £2.99 with free postage.
Many thanks to unibatbob for posting the video with the cure for the problem.
just ordered one and it's amazing the weired sounds are gone thx for this great video
You're most welcome, hope it helped.
Amazing, will definitely be trying this - was told it was likely the engine mounts, but this seems like a much easier place to start!
Hi, I hope that you changed this and got rid of the infernal noise that it emanates!! Good luck !
Thanks! The whining was driving me crazy and this solved it!
What the part called any links plz
Mat Newton The part is called Turbo Vacuum Solenoid Valve. He added a hose to this which the part number is on the video.
Thanks very much for the link. This video was very helpful. Top tip if your tailgate switch goes like I had there is a good Vid by the German guy. It saved me 160 pounds. Part cost 20 quid. This is a common fault also on the insignia.
cheers
Peter
Cool, thanks for the info, I'll bear it in mind if the switch goes faulty!!
I've just got this problem. Gonna be popping on ebay and getting the part. Cheers mate :)
Edwin Corstin hope it helps. Saves a trip to the main stealer.
i noticed this thing making noise on my car as well. thanks for the tip!
No problem 👍 hope it did the job!
@@bobgriffiths it sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole as they updated the solenoid part itself now. But I got the issue fixed mate. Thanks again
Thanks, mate. problem solved.
Babar Ghias glad it helped. Take it easy and thanks for getting back to me.
Thanks a lot, you saved me ❤
Glad it helped!
Hi and thanks for the video, i have an astra and the same is happening on mine would it be the same part or a different one
I don't know if it would be exactly the same. you might try and look for a service bulletin for the car and see if a similar one exists.
Good luck with it though.
Devastated i missed out on this !, they advised that as of the weekend they are a discontinued product for them :'( any idea where else sells them ?
Just search for the 55589096 number and some shops will appear.. You can always try a dealer too, they may stock them or get them in for you...

Hey there mate. Im more then certain this has something to do with my car too. Just a quick question, cab this sometimes cause a faint smoke arise from the bonnet seem ?
Not something I'm aware of. I have another video where steam came from under my bonnet on heavy acceleration, due to a coolant leak from the EGR Cooler / Vacuum Box.
If it's smoke rather than steam, I'd take it to a garage. If it's steam check out that other video of mine..
Hi everyone, do you know if/where can we find that part in the UK without ordering the whole thing with the pipe?
Thanks

@@bobgriffiths hi, thanks for the reply though ive already replaced it with a grnuine one from ebay for ~20£. works perfectly so far for more than 6 months
Found another issue which is intermittent vibration foud that the cam belt cover plastic top end is catching on the pulley and wears a groove in the plastic.
I never had that but it does look more than possible. Hope you got it sorted. I chose this as it was on a Vauxhall Service Technical Note..
Hi. I have just got a insignia and mine makes this noise. What site did you go on for your £15 valve please. Thanks Aaron
Depends where you live but an example of a website I found is here: www.leadercomponents.com/product/lsc-55587330-original-oem-turbo-wastegate-actuator-hose-for-vauxhall-insignia-2013-new/?gclid=CjwKCAiAgvKQBhBbEiwAaPQw3PfbqX_9KCt5l-8Bm9xpViV8n_HgA3UJnXgU1DKTk0HUkTTYM_kNyRoCdcgQAvD_BwE
Not sure if it's any good for you but search for the wastegate actuator hose and it should find something good. Good luck
Hi
I have the noise sometimes when I close the bonnet.
I have this vibration through the car (not the steering wheel) which varies in strength and no 2 times are the same. It can best be described as if one of my tyres has a big flat spot.
Do you think it could be this causing the issue?
jubilee762 it's the same thing, get that done first and I bet you it will disappear. I have done loads of them.
yep, sounds similar to me. it depends where you feel the vibration from I guess. It felt for me like it was coming via the steering wheel but it's worth checking it out.
cheers sent for part but wont no till comes but moaning noise sounds like mine not had it long
Please feel free to let me know if it did help you out. Always nice to know this sort of stuff helps people out...
Hi Bob, how can I find document we saw on your phone.Could you share its link pls.I try to solve all problems mtself.I really need them.Thank you.
I can't find it now but it was "Technical Service Bulletin 2860 2.0L Diesel (LBS) - Electro pneumatic valve noisy" I no longer can find it online, but the info you need for this buzzing valve is in the video.
Thank you mate :) I might try this on my Opel Insignia I got same probs when the car is proper warm and when I'm driving normaly (3. to 4. gear) its starts moaning and the noise annoying me , but does the buzzing/mooing sound only comes when you revving or also you when driving with lower gears :) ?? Greetings from Denmark
Joey C it's worth giving it a go rather than taking it to a garage.
Hello, would you still be able to tell me where i can find to buy that? Or the name of it?

Wow your the man .. the noice is so annoying
Hope you got it sorted. It is a very annoying noise.
@@bobgriffiths yeah I did thanks
My vac line keeps coming off & it’s never done that in the 4years of having it. Could that be valve issue also? Thanks
Sorry, I'm not sure what would cause that. Better off taking it to a professional mechanic I'm afraid. Thanks for the comment though, much appreciated.
So can somebody explain why a new one dose not make the noise but goes bad after awhile.
craigr306 hi. I think that the valve starts fluttering after some use but it’s not all cars and it’s not all the time.
Hi , you had boost leak also? Or just the noises ? Please answer
Hi I have had a boost leak on a previous Vectra and a quick change of the boost hose sorted it out easily and quickly. I wasn't recording stuff back then though. This video was not about a boost leak though.
Cant find the part online any help appreciated please
www.autovaux.co.uk/55587330-turbocharger-vacuum-hose-as55587330
I have the same problem but its hardly any bother ffs. Just a slight noise.
Fitting the alternator on these is very easy anyway, no need to bring it to a dealer for that either, just make sure you disconnect the battery first.
Does anyone have a link to a seller for this part. My 2011 CDTI, 2.0l SRI model is now making this noise. Thanks in advance.
Not sure if it helps, but I've just found this by searching for 55589096, www.autovaux.co.uk/55587330-turbocharger-vacuum-hose-as55587330
It's a different number but if it's that black item it will more than likely be ok.
unibatbob thank you. I saw that and did wonder if it was an extension to the vacuum. I'll have a look at it and report back. Thank for your reply.
You're welcome Ian.
HI BOSS I LIKE TO ASK YOU HOW I CAN PURCHASE SAME PART I HAVE SAME ISSUE MANY THANKS IF YOU CAN LET ME KNOW
www.autovaux.co.uk/55587330-turbocharger-vacuum-hose-as55587330
Could you please supply the address where you purchased the part. I have the same problem. Many thanks.
Sure can! Search for 55589096 on the website, www.genuinepartsearch.co.uk/ and it was £14.63 as of 2nd July 2017. Hope this info helps you out with your problem! (It's no guarantee but it's certainly cheaper to try this than take it to a main dealer to get it checked out)
Hello, but it solves the problem? My husband do this but it not solvesed the problem :(
eeegliukas1 sorry to hear that. Perhaps it's something else. Try taking it to a professional garage as I'm not a professional mechanic I can't offer any further help. Good luck getting it resolved.
do you know where else i can get this part?
Driving me crazy. Started tonight. It cycles a bit too yes?
It's been a while but yes it did make a cycling niose up and down tones. I don't think it ever did anytihgn to the engine though. Hope this helps.
My insignia sri has same noise but no plastic piece behind...would it be the turbo valve solinoid???
I think I've seen it referred to as the turbo valve solenoid somewhere, it just starts flapping, unable to open fully or close fully so it flaps between the two states. To be clear I haven't changed the solenoid valve, just added a reservoir thingy in-line with it.
If you're not sure always take it to a garage or a trained mechanic, I only found this trick after googling the symptoms. Thanks for dropping by.
unibatbob yes it is the valve...been swoped tomorrow...funny how a little piece of plastic can make so much noise
Hope it works out for you, I know how bloody annoying that stupid whirring noise is after a while..
Thank you
You're most welcome, hope it helped.
Will this cause my car to not vibrate and shake when it’s idle and help my car boost properly again? TIA
Honestly, I don't know. My car used to do it when coming back down to idle from revs, like pulling up in a car park, or stopping in traffic. Take it to a mechanic if you're concerned. Thanks.
@@bobgriffiths sold the car now haha😂
would this part fit my 2.0 2012 mate just bought the car and noticed this noise 🙄
If it's the same noise on the diesel engine then it might be worth a try.
The vibration you are talking about. It is in idle or when pressing the gas pedal in drive mode?
I have the same noise in my car and mine is also vibrating when im driving but only when im accelarate.
Im suspecting this Solenoid Valve after seeing this clip.
abiyhmor for me it was more noticeable in traffic when accelerating and then stopping on idle. It was a bit random. Sometimes it would do it for the whole journey and other times for small parts of it. My main dealer quoted £££’s for an alternator so this was worth trying for me for the reduced amount of money. It is a GM fix too so it’s known about by Vauxhall and GM. Hope you get it sorted soon.
abiyhmor I have the same issue as you. did u find out what that was?
Arkadiusz Osinski yes. All of the info is in the video and the comments. Good luck.
abiyhmor I have exactly the same problem. Have you sorted it out yet. Thanks
Mohammed Shuvo
Not really. Im suspecting my driver shaft..
My insignia loses power when going up hills any ideas? Also when putting your foot down it's very slow with no boost
I had this in a previous Vectra and the boost hose had split, might be worth checking the boost hose , it's quite a wide bit of hose but a split in it allows an escape of the boost gases and a loss of power. If you're unsure though, do take it to a professional.
@@bobgriffiths had that changed its comming up with P003a and p2263 fault
Fuel pump
can you pls tell me where to purchase this part

Top man
Filipe Castro sounds like it worked a treat for you too ! I’m pleased. Have a great week!
Hi friend, I have a Opel Insignia Sport Tourer 2.0 DCTI 2010 with this noise. Do you think this product is ok and fit for my car? Please somebody let me know. Thank you.
rock'n'roll machine that’s the same engine as mine I think. It’s got to be worth a try.
unibatbob my car is OPEL Insignia 2.0 CDTI 160CV Sport Tourer Cosmo 2.0 cc Engine A20DTH Diesel. Do you have the same car?
rock'n'roll machine not exactly but I’m pretty sure it’ll be a similar problem. I’m no expert though so if you’re not sure you should take it to a garage or a qualified mechanic.
Thanks a lot. I will update you.
How this part is called exactly?
www.autovaux.co.uk/55587330-turbocharger-vacuum-hose-as55587330
I have replaced the valve and the noise is gone but now it makes a noise like its releasing air.. Is this normal?
sounds like you may not have put the pipes back on properly or there is a split in the vacuum hose,. Take it to a mechanic if it continues. Good luck Chris.
@@bobgriffiths thanks. It was a rubbish ebay part and the valve wasn't opening.. I got 1 of a scrapped car and sent that 1 back. Cheers tho
Mine was buzzing and now, car keeps going into limp mode. I'm worried it might be the turbo, it hasn't been smoking or anything so not sure. Do u think it might just be this part that has gone completely?
osidda1 honestly. I’d take it to a mechanic for a check. It might be a problem with the valve but I wouldn’t be able to offer any more assistance. Sorry.
@@bobgriffiths It's booked in on Wednesday. Tonight the fault didn't flag, but all of a sudden, it flagged engine over heating please stop, got a bad smell of burning soot, I removed the error with the obd2 reader and has been ok since. So God knows what's wrong with it.
osidda1 I hope the mechanic doesn’t have bad news for you and that its something easily remedied. Cheers.
@@bobgriffiths weirdly, got into the Car today, turned this ignition and no faults flagged. Drove for 30 miles and drove perfect. I'm so fu**ing confused.
Right, it's been to the Mechanic and it was the Turbo Boost Pressure Sensor. Bought a new one off EBay for £29, took him 5 mins and done. Car is running like a dream and alot more power. Must of been an issue since buying it 6 months ago.
After replacing the solenoid valve the noise returned a few days later...so ordered the plastic chamber over the internet...bingo noise gone
christopher guy that’s great news glad my advice was helpful.
In my vehicle, when the ignition is turned off, it makes a ferry sound, but there is no problem in the performance of the vehicle.
Yep, I had no performance issues, just a weird noise. Good luck.
Hi guys, my car mechanic told me that using this solution i should have engine issues. Did you have any problems After the installation? Power issue, engine light turned on etc...
Alessio Vagnarelli nope. Far from it. My car has been fine since and I’m still getting 48mpg on a long run.
It’s also a GM Vauxhall recorded solution that is done in main dealers so it is the right thing to do.
If you’d rather listen to your mechanic I wouldn’t blame you. I’m not a mechanic and I don’t purport to know what’s best but it was a documented solution. Check out some of the other comments on this video to see what other people think.
Cheers for your comment and good luck solving the issue whichever way you choose to do it.
@@bobgriffiths Do you know if the Solenoid solves the issue on the engine A20DT?
Thanks
Alessio Vagnarelli it solved my issue. Ymmv and if in doubt go and see a mechanic. Thanks.
I have that noise on my 1.3 Astra when I turn off the engine..
Not sure if it has the same piece of hardware on the astra, worth having a look before you spend any money, if in any doubt take it to a garage. Cheers and good luck.
It’s the fuel pump de pressurising I now believe
How this solves the problem and isnt it better to buy new boost controller instead of adding some stuff there??? Hmu pls
I don't know the reason behind it but I think that the valve starts fluttering and the reservoir just prevents it getting into a cycle like it does. This is a known issue and Vauxhall / GM have a tech note that details this exact fix for the problem. I don't think it's indicative of an issue with the valve being faulty but perhaps it's just on the edge of the pressure required to pull the valve closed or open. It works a treat on mine, a colleague at my work has replicated the fix for his and googling the issue also shows others who have done this very same thing. It's entirely up to you how you go about resolving your own issues, my video is on here only to show other people what I have done. If you're unsure in the slightest, please go to a garage or professional mechanic who can advise you. Thanks for engaging on this vid though, much appreciated.
unibatbob tkanks for your answer. Did some research and the guy on vauxhall forum said he changed the whole thing 3 times and issue came back untill he order that valve. Will order that part too. For 25 quid you cant go wrong. Good job mate!
it's no valve, just an empty plastic cylinder, it increases the volume of air between the solenoid and the turbo.
Where do I get this
Hi, see in the comments, there are people who've found it in other places..
Great video stay away from dealers 😉
You're most welcome, hope it helped. I see them referred to as "Main Stealers" a lot... Ha ha..
Jak to się nazywa???
It is called a vacuum reservoir and it sits inline with your Wastegate Actuator Solenoid Valve.
Replacing the alternator it’s got nothing to do with the solenoid controls the waste gate I don’t see what the alternator is got to do with it my mini cab insignia Cdti has done over 350k and the solenoid last about 12mth and that’s it
It's not related to the Alternator at all, in my opinion. Best of luck with your issue.
hi all has anyone had a wet driver's footwell was cleaning car and noticed its wet thanks in advance
Not me, I don't know what that could be, maybe a leaky windscreen seal, a coolant leak from the cabin heater/cooler? Sorry, might be easier to take it to a garage.
Dokładnie to samo zrobi zamontowanie filtra paliwa który kosztuje 2 euro.
Good to know, probably one that hasn't been used for fuel already yeah?? ;-)
I have the same problem with my Saab 9-5
Probably similar engine if not the same, all GM isn't it?

@@bobgriffiths motorowy in UK?
There so many common issues with these insignias gear box. Intercooler boost pipe .this buzzing sound.now I have a power steering pipe split and it's leaky also a tailgate broken too . And all that is common problem worst car I have ever owned.
all that is annoying but cheap to repair. Other cars have less issues with those crap, but repairs cost up to 50% of total used car value, like Vag DSG, Electronic problems, injectors that cost 400€ per cylinder etc
