I have a personal connection to these brave AMERICAN PATRIOT WARRIORS, I had a uncle who served with the 761 Tank Battalion His name was John Harris ( SGT) , (named after his Father) and a great friend by the name of Walter Lewis (SGT) who also served wtih this highly honored Unit. These men had to endure wars on two fronts, RACISM, AND THE EVIL OF NAZISM.They answered the call to arms, and performed above, and beyond the call of duty! True american heros! Sadly, most americans have never heard of these BRAVE MEN. We as a nation must never forget those would have paid the ultimate price for freedom, and inclusion into this nation we love so deeply, - (despite it's history of slavery). TO ALL THE THE MEN OF THE 761 TANK BATTALION, I SALUTE YOU.... COME OUT FIGHTING!

The etymology behind the "black panthers" name is interesting.
I always thought it originated with the Lowndes County Freedom Organization and then was adopted by the BPP in Berkley California.
Turns out the 761st Battalion used it even before them.

Jesse, I agree, Personally I would prefer a actual Documentary, The main reason is, American Racist uses Hollywood to promote white male gallantry while manipulating the actual historical facts, For example, We've all seen footage of the D-Day landing, Even though there were thousands of Men of Every shade of Black & Brown, The directors made sure they were excluded from every inch of that footage, They did the same with Black Soldiers that served in WWI our elder Soldiers like the Harlem HellCats, Same as when President Obama was elected, Racist Congressional Members Vowed to not work with him regardless, They were only following the same ignorant narrative of their elected forefathers. However, A Documentary with actual footage showing Negro Members of the American Armed Forces during WWII & The Korean War would be priceless.

It's a travesty 70 + years after WWII has been over their has not been one feature film about the heroism these men exhibited. The Tuskegee Airmen have had to major films why is this story not been told? I hope one day someone will produce their story in to a major film. The 761st needs it's story told to the world.

I don't even think they were mentioned in Band of Brothers, I know that miniseries was focused on the Airborne......but the Battle of the Bulge was one of the main battles for I believe 3 episodes. The people interviewed (real vets and on screen) kept saying "we didn't need rescuing by Patton!" I wonder if they were referencing the 761.

I had the Great Privilege to know one of those great
Warriors. He worked in the papermill that me and my Father worked and was about the same age about the same age as my Father who served in the 1st Marine Division during WWII in the Pacific Theater. His name was Mr Cooks a very good worker and a very nice person. I met him when I was just 19 in 1971 and I can remember him doing the manual of arms with his broom but I never knew anything about his service until President Carter recognized his Division for crossing the Rhine River 1st before any white troops. I remember him sitting by me reading the newspaper and finding the article and sharing it with me and also giving me a history lesson of the 761st , I am white but I was so impressed by what I heard and then so ashamed that it took that many years for the Truth to come out. I shared the article with my Father and he went to Mr Cooks and they had a long handshake and shared stories of the War. My Father had known him for about 25 years and they were friends but he never knew about his service during WWII. I am convinced that RACISM is taught to people, I wasn't taught it so I by the Grace of God am not a racist.

Great men, underappreciated and under told story. They were responsible for the liberation of my grandfathers camp (along with the 71st). They 71st got all the credit even though these guys were right there with them. I am not sure my grandfather realizes that these men were part of the 761st, and not the 71st since they were the ones that got credit. I imagine he believes they were all apart of the same unit that got the credit. He speaks fondly of all the soldiers that liberated them (obviously), but particularly of the 'African-Americans' (761st) though. He speaks about when they were first initially liberated - the white soldiers gave them whatever extra food, water and cigarettes they had. In contrast he specifically mentions that the african-american soldiers were giving out food, gum, chocolate, extra shoes, and even the clothes off their backs. Thank you to the 761st for your service, you are truly honorable men. Not sure my family would be here without them doing what they did

Talk about profiles of COURAGE, RIGHT? It seems that EVERY time that BM picked up a rifle, the goal post of what they've PREVIOUSLY done was MOVED BLACK! BM didn't have to prove a GOTDAMN THING they hadn't ALREADY proven, they did in the AR (despite the misrepresented paintings, the majority of soldiers were BLACK) and they did it AGAIN in the victory of the Union in the CW, which the Confederacy was winning until THEY were enlisted, then ONCE again in WWI!
Just think, this happened in the 40's and wasn't recognized until the 70's and NOBODY speaks about how White US soldiers dined with Nazi prisoners as a SLIGHT to Black US soldiers, DESPITE their VICTORIES, that's the MINDSET of WS and why it needs to be DISSOLVED!
My Dad picked up a rifle because he couldn't find a job but, the Army DAMN SURE had one for him and AFTER putting himself in harms way and PROUDLY serving a country where he had to step off the sidewalk when WFS passed, he returned home to a REDLINED neighborhood and SPAT upon before he could get OUT of his uniform, that DEEPLY troubled him, DAMNED near to the END, may he RIP and we SALUTE these brothers for their INCOMPARABLE COURAGE!✊🏿😔
