The lyrics are about falling in love with a married man and all the lies and deceit that entails. You should find the live acoustic version, it is just Saiki singing and Kanami on acoustic guitar. This, the rock version is angry, but the acoustic is sang with total despair. It is hauntingly beautiful.

I always thought it was something like another boy in the class or something. They are lovers at the start, but then he leaves her for another girl, and she wishes him all the best, 'cause she still loves him and is ready to sacrifice even herself for the sake of his happiness. Something like this.
@@VladimirChupin Hi Vlad, hope you are well. If I remember right it was Miku who explained the married man bit. There are lyrics about him leaving things behind in the ladies apartment or home - cigarette lighter, clothes etc. Of course Miku has said she does not write from personal experience.
From t-shinji: It’s about the female protagonist’s love for a married man. She fell in love with him at first sight. She knows he’s married and the two pretend not to be in love in public, but she can’t stop loving him.

Makes sense, actually. It would be interesting if Miku would point to the actual manga or a movie which served as a basis for the particular lyrics in the song. She almost never does it, though. Or maybe it's like a digest of ten mangas and five movies in her head, which then leads to a story in the song...

All Band-Maid songs are the perfect runtime. They fit more music into three to four minutes than pretty much any band I've ever heard, and in fact fit more into that time than most bands manage in an entire album. Their songs are composed music first (Kanami being the primary composer, with Misa and Akane filling in their parts within that framework), then lyrics are added (usually by Miku, but Saiki is becoming an accomplished lyricist as well). If you want it to be longer, just listen to it again, or listen to the next song. It's just as good

Hello Awesome Lady! I hope you are having a wonderful day. If you liked "Puzzle" you are going to love "Moratorium." Both are tracks from the 2017 "Just Bring It" album. The acoustic version of "Puzzle" with only Kanami playing acoustic guitar and providing backing vocals for Saiki is hauntingly beautiful. I'd also suggest the official music video of "Warning" instead of the live version since the live was from one of their pandemic era livestreams with no audience. "Warning" is from the album, "Unseen World" and that whole album goes really hard. I'm sure you would also love the recording of their performance at Lollapalooza of "Dice" and "Hate?" "Dice" is from their "World Domination" album and "Hate?" is from their most recent EP called "Unleash." With any of those, I think you might just find a new favorite or two. Thank you for the wonderful editing. There are many talented players of each instrument in the world. Each instrument in this group does not have genius technique, but the playing ability is at the top level in the world. But what's most amazing is that each instrument is singing the song. Because that's everyone. In other words, the feelings of the performer are expressed in the instrument. Because it is a collection of these things, it excites the listeners. Look at their facial expressions while they play. Therefore, Bandmaid is currently one of the top rock groups in the world.
Brewtiful, I'm so happy to see another young woman listen to and embrace Band Maid. So many of us old geezers, who are Maidiacs, are so thrilled a younger audience, especially young women, recognize how talented these five young Japanese women are. They rock as hard, probably harder, many male musicians. That, coupled with their talent, cohesiveness, and hard work should enough to make any young woman proud.

If you really want to see a completely different side to this song, please take a look at the 'Acoustic live ' version. It's just Saiki & Kanami on stage. The pain & passion in Saiki's voice is so real. I'm an old 65yo rocker , & it makes my eyes weep every time.

Yes! Please do the acoustic version of Puzzle. Going from the electric version to acoustic is an emotional rollercoaster ride where Saiki pours her heart out upon the stage and Kanami provides the beautiful guitar and haunting backing vocals. Both versions of Puzzle are masterpieces of songwriting and performance.

I agree also. If you loved this song, then you're going to really love the acoustic version of puzzle. Though, you might want to keep your tissues or hanky close by. You might need to ask some of the fans for the link, as it's not really available. It was taken down. But, some of the fans have the link. You may need to pause it frequently as it tends to get blocked. But I have seen it on many reactors channels.

You want a music video next time? After hearing how much you love their “bridges to choruses” and the transitions they make, I would’ve thought “Blooming” is the finest example. However, you’ve already done that one!
You’ve also commented that you always enjoy a good guitar solo. So now we have two choices:
“Daydreaming,” Uptempo, rock pop ballad-sorta…(the song when everyone holds up lighters and phones in concert) with one of Kanami’s best, memorable melodic solos, or:
“DICE,” Hard rock Maid style, clever lyrics and a creepy doll video…with a little MISA solo thundering into some Kanami lightning. It’s brief, but it’s darn near perfect.
Both music videos are the best way to experience these songs. (Unless you’re front row at a Band Maid Okiyu-ji)
Girl, you have to see them live. I am 60 and seen many concerts and I think they had the best all round show. So entertaining and fun. You will see have much fun and love they have together. You are just getting started, so many great songs. I promise you will find another favorite!
Who's the favorite member? I love all the Maids equally. And I love most of their songs equally. I'll listen to YOLO, for example, and it moves to number one. Then I'll listen to Puzzle, and it goes to number one, and so on for about 70 of their 130 songs. Each Maid has their own personality and contribution to the group:
Kanami is so adorable and quirky. She initially writes most of the material and is one of the best guitarist in hard rock. And she's a prolific riff master like no other.
Miku is pure kawai and cleverly smart. She's a unique second guitarist & harmonizer to Saiki and writes the lyrics. She's the face and PR SpokesPigeon of Band-Maid, Po!
MISA is the barefoot assassin who kills every note, and is surprisingly the class clown of the group. She's one of the best bass players in the business adding drive and unique secondary bass leads to the music.
Akane is the fusion reactor behind the band and goofball. She's one of the best drummers in rock today with relentless drive, dynamics, and the kick.
And Saiki... she brings a classy focus to the band who more than stands up to the powerful engine that's roaring behind her. She's a front-woman like no other and the iconic vocalist of the best hard rock band in the world - Band-Maid! Thx, Brewtiful!

A girl who likes to dress up as a maid and calls herself a pigeon being described as a "lyrical genius." Not saying you're wrong. Miku has a lyrical style that just paints an abstract picture that grabs you. Evokes whatever emotion she wants to convey. Much more mature and intelligent than her silly, fun concert and interview persona lets on.

The Studio Coast LIVE performances of Moratorium & Puzzle are what sold me on Band-Maid.
I was 1 of the lucky 8000 there at Tokyo Garden Theater..and ..1 of the lucky 10000+ at Yokohama Arena..Book ending the 10th Anni Tour.

I totally agree, more than any other band, Band-Maid has figured out the complete package: words, music, performance, and everything that melds together to elevate their music to true art. Every band-Maid song generates an emotional response with the listener. Everything in the song leads you exactly where Band-Maid wants your mind to travel: the bass, the drums, the guitars, the voices, the back track, all of them weave together to take you on the journey they have designed for you.
"Puzzle" can be topped. Yes, "Puzzle" is at the top of my play list, especially this performance. But try "About Us" - it will bring you to tears. The only reason "About Us" isn't on my play list is that listening to it is too emotionally draining to listen to every day. Band-Maid wrote "About Us" with the intention of performing it at Nippon Budokan in front of a huge audience at their first concert out of lockdown.The song was to be a joyous celebration of reunification with their fans. But the lockdown was extended and the concert cancelled. So they played it at a live streamed concert to an empty venue. Saiki presented the song with a rather solemn preamble explaining the purpose of the song. Watch "About Us" and be amazed.

You could have done a Double Feature with the Acoustic LIVE Version to make it longer. But Miku is the lyrical genius. She writes 99% of their lyrics, not that others haven't tried, but she had the touch. Saiki did write the words for the song, 'Hate'. But You still haven't done 'Unleash'. You should! It's in anime form. And don't forget to check out their April Fool's Day persona, BAND-MAIKO. But you said BAND-MAID will live forever. Check out 'Manners'. It literally says that in the song. And, speaking of Double Features, it's usually paired with 'Black Hole'.
Play this version and the acoustic version and you'll get your 10 minute song. These two versions make Puzzle my favorite B-M song.

The lyrics were written by Miku Kobato, who also founded the Band. She writes the lyrics after Kamani, Akane and MISA have the music established. They then go into the studio to finalize the song. Miku has asked Kanami to change the music in order for the lyrics to flow correctly.
They have complete control of their music, somewhat rare in the Japanese music world.
For your next "favorite" song listen to "Influencer" or "Warning".

The Puzzle is Why Why Why they won't make these 60 second songs longer. Also, the included lyrics on their official channel are the official translations, I'm sure that Miku (who writes most of the lyrics) had a major hand in the translations.

10 minutes? I like Puzzle just as it is, which is perfection. But, I do yearn for a more long-form composition from them. A 15-20 minute epic in the tradition of bands like Yes, Rush, Dream Theater, etc. I am so curious as to what they could do outside the confines of the radio-friendly song duration they stick to so religiously. As for a song you might like better, try “Blooming”.

I'm not sure it will top Puzzle for you, but I think that Flying High is a great, underrated song by Band Maid.
They literally don't have a bad song. Wait till you hear Domination or Play. However, my suggestion for you is the Thrill MV.
There is some Band Maid lore behind that video. The ladies were close to being released from their management company due to low record sales. As sort of a last dich effort the band and the management company decided to shoot a simple video for cheep then release it on UA-cam and see what happened. That was in 2014. At first not much happened but out of nowhere they suddenly got thousands of views and not in Japan (currently that video has 19 MILLION views). International YT viewers started liking and sharing the video and YT reactors found it and their popularity shot up. So, the Thrill MV made Band Maid what they are today. Also Miku is a promotion juggernaut and goes from radio station to radio station with Saiki to promote the band. The two also like going to the dog track together. (I follow them on Twitter, and a bunch of other Japanese bands) 🧩🧩🧩

I'd second all the prior suggestions to also check out the acoustic version of Puzzle. Given what you already reacted to, from their older stuff I'd also recommend checking out "Don't You Tell ME", "secret My lips" (maybe compare it with "secret Maiko lips" as well), Dice and Play for starters.
Regarding the closed caption subtitles, if they're from videos posted on the official YT channel they're pretty reliable translations, the only things that you might miss out on is additional subtext and references; Miku likes using wordplay, dual meanings and the like with both Japanese and sometimes foreign words also that sound like Japanese phrases.
There plenty of pictures of them passed out with exhaustion after a show. None of Akane thought. The mv to Thhrill could use some help to get to 20 million views.

Ten minute Band-Maid songs? Weeell.... They have never crossed the 5-minute threshold yet. Kanami certainly write some dense music, with enough ideas that could last for a 10 minute song. But it seems part of her MO that she seems to think taking up so much time for a single song is kind of unnecessarily presumptuous, so she won't. Like that the songs hold up to a number of re-listens though.
