    You had zero failures, the education that experience has given you was a success. Now if an emergency happens you find out what does and does not do well when neglected.

    Your dead plants look like my vegetable garden and I was home! Sweet potatoes were a bust for the first time in three years :(. The weather and bugs were a big problem. Bananas took a beating with the storms, but will be ok next year. It’s less expensive and supportive of our local farms to just buy our produce….

    Don't think heron ate the seeds, they mainly eat lizards, snakes, bugs. Seeds are very sensitive, anything can hurt them. Our big main problem is the bugs, they devastate my plants: Im in South Florida 😞.. Thanks for sharing

    I have Green onions all year round. I never really take it seriously with Green onions. I just threw in a long rectangle pot and in the ground it ALWAYS thrive every single one of them. The longer i let grow the thicker and super tall it gets. I just throw fish soluble fertilizer once a month it loves it! Haven't bought store Green onions for 2 years now. Just keep it watered.

      I have some two different kinds now. One from store bought and those multiplier green onions. They can live through anything, lol.

    Welcome back fellow gardener and RVer. Even though I do it differently (container or hydroponics), faced some of the same issues even being here to tend things. It was a very hot dry fall as you know and that affected growth. My green beans and cukes overall were a disaster. Peppers and tomatoes struggled, but produced, just not a bumper crop. Brassicas are actually doing well even with the heat. Go figure that one. But after 50 years of growing things in our part of the state, one has to just sit back and enjoy the successes as well as the failures

      I completely agree. Enjoy the journey even if it goes differently than you expected. My brassicas are all thriving too. What a weird season.

    Welcome home, Patrina. Glad you all had a great trip . It must feel terrific to be home and back to gardening in this beautiful weather. Overall, in my humble and newbie experience, your garden seems to have done well. I’m confident you will bring it all back under control. Thanks for the irrigation tips. We are leaving again for several weeks and I feel like I have everything covered water wise except the Greenstalk. Still thinking that through since I only have strawberries in it but they are producing like crazy already. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Btw, your hair looks nice today. Just saying, not being weird. Happy Veterans Day 🇺🇸

    Here in Sylacauga Alabama, we have had our first freeze of the year, 13 hours down tio 26F. A few basil survived, but are severely damaged. My peppers and tomatoes were a total loss. However, my turnips, rutabaga, kohlrabi, Pak Choy, Komatsuna, and Yellow Heart winter choy are thriving, I have winter tomatoes growing inside a polytunnel greenhouse that is heated as necessary. Seed sowing starts in January, and this year, I am growing 250 additional seedlings for a plant sale, beefsteak tomatoes, Supersweet 100 cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, Cubanelle peppers, Jalapeno peppers, cucumbers, and basil. It is my first plant sale, so I am starting small. If all goes well, I'll expand the following year.

    I love your experiment! We grow our main garden up at our property and only tend to it on weekends. Last year was year 1. Many lessons learned. Your extra input gave me tons of information as well as encouragement ☺. It's super great to hear from Florida gardeners especially with the native plants and flowers.
    Great 30 min visit, now go tend to your weeds 😂😂😂 Happy 🌱 Gardening!

    Mycorrhizae will make plants super hardy. I have done the side by side comparisons. It exists naturally in no till gardens and a great additive to tilled gardens and raised beds.

    Welcome back. Question how is your lawn so short if you were not there for 2 months?

    • @HomegrownFloridaZ9a
      @HomegrownFloridaZ9a  7 місяців тому

      We have a lawn company come out and mow while we are gone on our trips. Otherwise I think the county might get upset, lol. We have let the backyard grow out before when our trips were shorter but it’s really hard to mow it when we get back.
