i'm learning about this in uni now but i still don't get what a proform atually is. You keep saying that it replaces a noun but the noun never gets replaced, you always just sign the sentence like normal. For example you signed the sign for "man" so how/ what did the get replaced with? I'm so confused someone please help
for the 2nd example, you said you identified the noun (car) first and then replaced it with a proform, but what does that actually mean? Does proform just mean a sign that's a noun? And does the handshape of the proform always stay the same for each example that you gave? Eg is the proform always a b handshape for car?
Hi thankyou for your question. Basically a pro form stands in place of a form. For example the flat B handshape is the pro form for car. Pro forms are really useful in BSL as they show lots of grammatical info. There is a good BSL linguist site that may help, it’s BSL QED. Hope it’s useful.
