In an early interview, Kirsten said she cried when they were accepted to be on The Sing Off because she was so happy that the world would finally be able to hear Mitch sing.
They sang it in the same key as it was written. Mitch hit the last note higher than written. It's Scott's favorite musical and he requested it for his birthday
🤣 Scott LOVES the musical Wicked (a prequel to The Wizard of Oz). For his bday, Mitch arranged to do this. This particular song is known to be incredibly difficult. And Mitch not only sang it in the same key, but went HIGHER than the original. Mitch is Elphaba (wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz). Scott is Glenda (good witch in Oz).
That damn wig is it’s own character lol. The characters are Elphaba/Wicked Witch of the West (Mitch) and Glinda/The Good Witch of the North (Scott). Originated on Broadway by Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith (respectively), who are two of the best singers on Broadway, Elphaba is one of the hardest characters to sing. Mitch is a huge fan of Idina, who is also the voice of Elsa in Frozen (another Superfruit video you should react to). Mitch is amazing-and replicating this iconic song is hard for female singers-but he has a naturally high voice. I feel like we need to take a moment to appreciate Scott, who is a freaking baritone with a strong falsetto, keeping up with Mitch as well as he does.
Another example of Mitch's vocal diversity is his rendition of "The Graveyard". There's piano accompaniment, done in studio, but it truly is a thing of beauty.
Theres also a song ptx did live at a tv wicked special , kirstie and mitch singing together is amazing - kirstie also commented on twitter the other day about it
Yeah I think we 😁 all figured out a long, long time ago that Mitch is an Alien....he fits in well on Earth, but has superhuman powers. Mitchy can sing anything, I've followed PTX and Super Fruit from the beginning and I've never heard him miss. Scott as well. These 2 having grown up together since they were 10 have a bond that just cemented them. They were clearly put on this Earth to sing together and do exactly what they do. I hope that once Mitch gets his side projects done, he'll grace us on a Broadway Stage one day, his background growing up is Musical Theatre, that is how they met....but honestly aside form PTX, his music taste run in the electro-funk, weird kind of "out there" stuff, as you'll see if you ever cover a "Messer" song. I love PTX, but there is just something especially amazing when Mitch and Scott, get together as Super Fruit and sing together, it's magical. Love your reactions btw. 😁 There is another awesome song they do from "Wicked the TV special" called What is This Feeling, but it is hard to find. It features Mitch and Kirsty and it's killer. If anyone has a link to it or saved it, please send saucy dad the info. I have it on a number of other Reactions, but can't find the original anymore. You'd love it. There are several video's of "Who sang the high note in Defying Gravity the best" and Mitch show's up in most of them as the only guy and tends to belt it higher than most of the female leads who have played that role on broadway.
If you want to hear an epic example of Mitch’s ability to go through the octaves, you really need to listen to their cover of Take On Me (audio only). Love your reactions-you are so funny! You must be such a fun dad to have 😊.
Mitch is so fantastic in this and he definitely deserves all the praise and recognition. But I think that in focusing on how good Mitch is, that Scott sometimes gets overlooked. When you consider he's a baritone, but he competes with Mitch in those high notes. And while it's obvious he's not exactly in his comfort zone, he still absolutely slays it. They could very easily have adjusted it slightly lower for him and it still would have harmonised well, but they kept true to how it was written...for women. I don't think these are the highest notes that Scott has hit, but I think it might be the longest he stays up there. Honestly, they both would be phenomenal on broadway. I know when they were young they wrote and performed a song together that sounded like it was a broadway hit, I reckon between the two of them (and Kirstie, too maybe) they could probably write and star in their own musical. And while they're at it they could write an awesome bass part for Avi, because basses don't get enough love in musicals imo.
I'd happily pay to see Mitch play Elphaba on Broadway. I'd drive my happy self to New York (from Florida), pay the outrageous sum for a Broadway ticket, sit in the front row, and clap myself silly to see it.
Others answered. The Broadway show Wicked. Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel were the originals. Mitch is singing Idina’s part. The end gives me chills.
I think this has to be my favourite reaction of yours! Was waiting the whole time for your face to that last note! Just love them. I was trying to imagine some unsuspecting viewer coming across your reaction with no context to find you wearing the unicorn helmet and headphones stuck out and it cracks me up thinking about it 😂😂 you really do have the best personality, please never change!
LOL... when your phone case commercial rolled, I thought "This was the best transition we ever have seen for it, Mitch singing about defying gravity and you asking yourself HOW? for both his voice and the phone case." - Yes, both work with alien techniques. Case closed.
For a couple Superfruit’s with no singing, just funny as anything, you need to check out Ghost Hunting and the Tin Can Challenge. Mitch’s expressions when Scott wants to summons the spirits are so funny. In Tin Can Challenge, they have to taste things from unmarked cans. Very funny and somewhat scary. Thanks for this one. Loved your reaction!❤️❤️❤️
This song is from the musical, Wicked adapted from the book. It's a prequel to The Wizard of Oz. It tells the story of Glenda and Elphaba (who becomes the Wicked Witch) and how they were roommates in collage. Great story! Amazing musical.
Yes, yes, you did it! Thanks for another great reaction, the helmet and everything 😁 Your facial expressions are hilarious! And I have to say, besides the singing (which is mindblowing!), as a non native speaker of English I'm always fascinated with Mitch's enunciation, it makes him very easy to understand.. glad you did this!
Glad you did this one Saucey Dad. You are quite right, even when just having fun they are professionals and their talent cannot be hidden. The vocal acrobatics of Mitch are always amazing. I sent you a looong list of recommendations. Love your reactions.
You said previously that you watch a lot of talent/singing shows. That's probably why you recognized it. I'm sure a lot of people have done this song on American Idol. Also I'm going to throw this out there but I thing the unicorn helmet should be named Mini Mitch 🤔
I've got to throw another musical "Wicked" on top of the other comments, because Saucy, you're painfully making me scream at my computer waiting for the lightbulb to go off in your head.
Oh, because you sang a bit of It's All Coming Back To Me Now... I just have to recommend/request it once again: Jeremy Jordan's live rendition of that song. Funny, awesome, and what a voice.
This is one of the showstopper numbers from the Broadway musical "Wicked". Since opening in 2003, Wicked has been performed in over 100 cities in 15 countries around the world. Celebrating its 15th anniversary on Broadway this fall, the musical has amassed over $4.5 billion in global sales and has been seen by over 55 million people worldwide. It tells the story of how sisters, Glenda, the Good witch of the east and Elphaba, the wicked witch of the west, came to be rivals. It has recently been made into a movie but it has not been released yet.
Like everyone else have said it's from the musical Wicked, BUT the reason you probably recognise it is because you've already reacted to VoicePlay doing a medley of the whole musical. Obviously including Defying Gravity as it's the most famous song from it.
So glad you got around to this one! I told you you'd need the unicorn. ;) I wish, so badly, that these two would do something on Broadway. I would fly to New York if the show didn't tour, without a second thought!
This song is from the Broadway sensation Wicked, which tells a prequel to the Wizard of Oz from the Wicked Witch's perspective. This is the big song in that show. Mitch was Elphaba (the wicked witch) and Scott was Glinda. You should react to the original with Idina Menzel. It's incredible. Mitch actually goes higher than the original at the end!
Wicked is a musical based, very VERY loosely, on the book Wicked by Gregory Maguire. The book is NOT a prequel to the Wizard of Oz, but a reinterpretation. The 1939 movie with Judy Garland is based on L. Frank Baum's book, The Wizard of Oz. Note: While I would recommend the musical Wicked for children, I would caution parents to read the book before or with the children - I highly recommend before. It is political, in my opinion, and does have sexual content. Note: a movie version of this musical is supposed to come out at the end of this year. Who knows.
I thought for sure you’d get it when Mitch said the name Glinda and then put the connection to Wicked, but the first time you missed it and then the 2nd time you heard it as Linda making no connection to the wizard of oz. Ok now you just figured it out. I’m obviously writing this as listening.
I know you loved hip hop goes Broadway but they also have pop goes Broadway and it has guest Shoshana Bean who actually played Elpheba in wicked on Broadway. Mitch’s character in this. Aka the witch. You should check it out.
I look for your reactions every day. I love them. Your facial expressions and the helmet make my day every day. Still hoping you will react to nightwish ghost love score live at wacken 2013. I would love to see what you think of it.
I know you don't want spoilers, but getting a little background shouldn't spoil the song for you. This is from Wicked. Scott is Glenda the good witch and Mitch is Elphaba the wicked witch.
Here's the Tony performance by Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith (the two original Broadway stars) ua-cam.com/video/O5V9KwppMfs/v-deo.html. Yes, Mitch dared to go higher. From the Broadway Musical WICKED, Mitch is the wicked witch Elphaba, Scott is the good witch Glinda. All based on The Wizard of Oz.
I don't think they have ever, ever sat next to each other, doing nothing.... they seem to be pretty hyper. And I think you should check out PTX Whistle Notes... that will get you going.
Ok….not that the PTX gang isn’t talented, but in the last 5 days you have reacted to 21 PTX and family (members or former members) 6 HF, mostly Tim and one was a story and 3 VP……could you maybe spread the love a bit for those of us that aren’t that enamored with the PTX voices? Asking for a friend…..😉😂♥️
In an early interview, Kirsten said she cried when they were accepted to be on The Sing Off because she was so happy that the world would finally be able to hear Mitch sing.
that is the most adorable and sweet thing I have ever heard 😍
that's such a sweet thing to say :') i love her!
That’s so special
Just as an FYI, they're both counter- tenors.
@@capttheo1who are the two that you’re referring to? I know Mitch is a counter tenor, but I’m unsure who the other person is.
They sang it in the same key as it was written. Mitch hit the last note higher than written. It's Scott's favorite musical and he requested it for his birthday
When these two are singing in harmony/unison, listen to them closely-their vibratos are in perfect sync!
When the unicorn helmet makes it to the thumbnail, you KNOW this is gonna be good.
😂😂😂😂
OMG I thought the same thing 😂😂😂
Just 2 grown up theater kids acting out one of the biggest scenes in all of musical theater & nailing it!! 👏🔥
Your face on that last belt Mitch did. I’m dying 😂 Mitch slap at it’s best!

@@davem071 🤣🤣
*Glinda...
It's a great musical and they do a wonderful job (as always) with this song.
@@ivylasangrienta6093 actually it's Glenda in the book and musical until the teacher mispronounces her name to Glinda.

Yes! I love that one!
oh that one moved me to tears.
Oh yes. Gorgeous vocals on that one (though, when are they not with this guy?)

Wicked. It is The Wizard of Oz from the point of the "bad" witch.
Glenda the Good Witch from Wizard of OZ...play Wicked!

It's from the musical Wicked. Mitch is saying Glenda...as in Glenda the good witch of the North in the wizard of oz, Mitch is the witch of the West.
Mitch supposedly did this because Scott had tickets to see Wicked and got sick and could not go - so they did the music instead
