Wide body...Nissan VK45DE swap! And turbocharge it. Oh and do that little headlight eyebrow cover thing the Lamborghini Diablo has, I'm curious to see what it looks like on a Fairlady.
This should obviously be a VG build. Go get an rx7 for your rotary build. Keep your 90s jdm cars with their respectable engines. I'll be waiting for your NSX build.
that's a good idea, but the engine is really tall, taller than the VG, which either they'll have to cut the hood to make it fit or they'll have to get a hood with a big a** bulge on it, which would look ugly as hell lol
Go with the VG30DETT because there aren't a lot if many in depth build videos for them. And would be interesting to see what can be done turbo and engine wise.
A VR30DDTT swap is my choice all day. A modern and reliable "oem+" engine swap. Will probably fit the best in the engine bay too. I can already imagine people taking a second look in the engine bay and realizing that the engine is not stock. And that makes it very cool for me
As much as I'd like to see a VG30 go back in the car, the more I think about it, it would be really cool to have the modern VR30 in there. LS, 2J, RB and (God forbid) the SR20 have all been done over and over again. REGARDLESS... looking forward to what's in store. Thank you guys for saving a Z32!
@@BlackTownie999 I agree with the greater-than-or-equal-to displacement option, but I really hope they keep it Nissan. Going smaller displacement just rubs me the wrong way. I know K-series and SR20s can rip, but to me, they're just more suited to 240s and the like... my opinion, of course.
@@mickeymang6 agreed LS is boring, and for a 2j I have seen the conversion cost as much as $10 grand just for a stock motor. By then you would be better of spending the money on the VG30dett.
So true... although I wouldn't mind getting a shot at the tails if they don't reuse them. JDM tails are sweet, but $$$$$$. Mine have stress cracks all around the edges, thus my blackout treatment to hide them. Would love to go back to OEM tails.
I'd like to see what you all at throtl can do with the VG30DETT engine in there! It'd be great to see your creativity in trying to maximize the power and performance from that engine! A PMZ wide bodykit to top it all off would be amazing. Can't wait to see where this build goes, favorite one so far!
I agreed.. VG30DETT with modern technology.. currently I also want to restore my Z31 but still doing research what kind of now day technology can make the engine reliable
As long as it’s not a LS swap. Overly played out. A VR30DDTT from a Q50 with a CD009 transmission would be a killer swap for the Z32. Easy power, Strictly Nissan 👌🏾
My favorite engine ever made is the rb26 dett for sure, but, Quinn's ideas of a high revving ls.... now I can get behind that. Throw a nice widebody kit and a screaming exhaust with a high revving ls, that would be one of the coolest, and most unique cars ever built.
Wangan spec Z32, hommage the Z top speed runs. Vg30dett fully built to 600-800hp. Using old school aero like abflug, tbk, Mission, VeilSide. Fun fact, the Z32 still holds the land speed record for Japanese modified car with the JUN Blitz Z32 that did 262mph in 1991. It did that using the VG30DeTt 😊
I can't wait to see how this 300$zx turns out, I've never seen one be stripped down then re built and kit up before... I honestly can not wait for more 300$zx content, this thing is going to look crazy!
It is unbelievable how Evan saw much potential on this car and TBH I kinda do too, its amazing what the team is doing and it'll absolutely be a gem once this build is done. Ey Oh! Hats off to the Throttle boys!
Use a VG30dett block, cams from JWT (retain factory VTC for good response), solid lifter setup, forged aftermarket internals. BDE performance cam gears. Delete factory cam sensor and go aftermarket. R35 coil setup (polar engineering). If you want to go wild get a stroker crank, EFR Turbos (with internal wastgate v-band setup), custom high flow exhaust manifolds, Get some cool bits from polar engineering for your fuel system and his electronic throttle body setup. Haltech R5, I7 digital dash, can bus buttons, Custom wire harness, Stick with the side mount intercoolers (its the most efficient for Z32 setups), 2.5" piping (cold side), Koyo radiator, upgrade oil cooler to larger unit BUT retain factory input and outputs from engine, just about any other way is unreliable. Exhaust, use custom transition downpipes, Dual 3", MUST HAVE X pipe for sound (not as raspy), B&B resonators, no mufflers, sounds awesome. Drivetrain, Tremec T-56 Magnum XL (close ratio option) with adapter plate from Grannas Racing. Shifter location is spot on. If you use a multiplate clutch to reduce pedal effort you can ditch ALL the factory vacuum clutch crap and go with a Tilton unit with with matching internal (adjustable) slave with collar extender if needed to keep stroke within tolerance. RPS aluminum flywheel to retain factory starter setup. Just make sure you order the clutch get the 26 spline clutch disc(s) to match the Tremec. Don't forget to order the steel alignment plate to properly indicate/center the trans (100% required). Single piece carbon driveshaft, Try and find a TT rear diff and convert to 4:10 Richmond Gears. Factory N/A 4:08 rear end could be used as an alternate. Suspension. Fortune Auto Coilovers, swift Springs, Gkteck suspension bits, do a grip setup (not drift setup). Interior. Tillett carbon seats, custom tube cage that does not interfere with passenger leg room. rear seat delete. I have done most of the above to my Z32 with great success. The best thing that transforms this car is the 6 speed. Once you drive with that setup it feels like it was always supposed to be that way. I hop you take the time to read this and consider this build configuration.
Id love this to be VR30 swapped, make it look like a “400” z do the same paint. I’m sure between Dustin and tj theres a set of stock z wheels somewhere lol
Keeping it VG would be the single most unique thing you could do. Modernise it with the Polar Engineering / Merlin machining catalogue. Engine swaps are honestly not even good content these days imho
I have spent the last 10 years of my life DEDICATED to modifying the VG to build what i believe is the most powerful 300ZX in England. I do it for my passion for the 300 & rarely write about it on the internet. I have blown more engines than i can remember, now i have a reliable VG30 making 780WHP without any bottom end reliability issues. The VG30 is INSANELY capable & you need no other engine. You need: 1) money for upgrade parts. 2) knowledge of how to build the engine correctly 3) high quality parts. 4) A quality machine shop you can trust. I would be happy to share my knowledge.
Definitely need more Masa! He's always a happy addition to any video. I know LS swaps have been done a ton, but I'd love to see this one with an LS. If not, then an RB would be awesome as well.
throtl is back to origin! I know it is a high ball, but a R35 VR38DETT all-in with suspension and gearbox and all-wheel drive! RZ35 would be some new bread - throtl style! I love you guys!
There are a few hundred ls swapped z32’s out there almost as many as fd’s. K swap the world is a channels purpose if it were Kyle cool. The throttl way is obviously a vr30ddtt, with a manual of course.
I would love to see that you don't go too crazy on this one, cuz the Z32 is a real classy car. I mean don't leave it stock but keep it as OEM as possible. No big wang, no widebody and for the love of god no canards or anything 😅 lower it, spray paint it in midnight purple, slap some nice nismo wheels on and you be good to go 😎👍Oh and of course put the VG30DETT back in 😉 sorry Ricky 😂
p.s. im sure you all hate my commenting by now, sorry. love the channel. just been begging for this day for ages, just wish it were a 2+0, t-top or slick top with a twin turbo vg30dett fully fucking shaved and gutted to its basic necessities because THAT is where these cars/motors shine the hardest. much love and respect! stoked from more z32 content!
It's been a while since the team did a rotary. A 20B turbo would be a great idea. But I also like the R35 v6 idea. That could work with R25 transmission as well. I think we should keep it Japanese
Widebody vr38 would probably get the most channel views. Although a shaved bay with an N/A RB with ITB's 👀 in like.. millennium jade ?? Rotiforms? Maybe even bagged/stanced?🔥🔥
I think an NA-TT build would be super cool. The NA engine has a higher compression ratio and can make serious power with E85. Not many people know the potential of those old VGs. As long as that motor is healthy, it can handle 700whp with relative ease.
VR30 with the 370z trans would be a cool swap. I still want to see an SR build but they run the same price as the VR and the RB is just out of most peoples reach now. Seeing a build that we can relate to would be fun rather than seeing 20+k engine swaps that most won't do.
The sealant on the tail lights is factory butyl rubber. It's actually a pretty smart product to use as it seals really well, yet can be removed when taking the tail lights off. O hand OM606 engine swap!!!
I'm building a 1990 300zx with a fully homebuilt forged 5.3 gapped rings for nitrous. but sadly, stuck making break lines and fuel lines because everything on the car was either shot or broken so it's been taking me 3 years. watching this gives me motivation again.
Awesome throttl boys! Would be nice to give this car an awesome new life. A RB26 motor would be sweet! As for the body, a nice clean build, no wide body as body is already awesome, suspension, rims, awesome interior and so forth. I don’t think you guys should over kill this car with customization as the body is already a timeless design. Whatever you guys decide I’m sure it will be epic!😀
An LS based build is *long* overdue on this channel, and it just makes sense. Easy power, great noise, can make the bay look sick. Super clean stock body with a simple kit, all white, bronze wheels. Simple, easy.
You can put a RB26 Twin Turbo in it but put bigger turbos with a fueltech management system so you can monitor everything on it. Making it a colour you never used before and custom simple interior. Everything to make it simple and easy.
Twin z widebody kit for 2+2, twin z hood, twin z bumpers, twin z spoiler, jspec taillights with a hellcat swap would be awesome, unconventional drivetrain swap and def interesting to see.
Hey guys! Firstly, I wanna say that I really love your content and I've been a subscriber for about 2 years now. Secondly, I love this platform and I'd really love to see the following done to the car: - RB26 Swap - Repaint; an OEM silver from Nissan would be my suggestion for the color - Volk TE37s - BC Racing Coilovers P.S. - just my opinion and how I'd go about rebuilding the car. Good luck, and I'm super excited to be following this build series!
For a trans look at the 8HP automatic with an aftermarket controller. You can set them up with a console shifter and drive it like a sequential transmission and they hold a lot of power. Lighter than a BMW DCT.
1UZ swop matched to a CD09, accessible and cheap, JDM all the way, can do 2UZ or 3UZ as well, Haltech management off the shelf.... and they don't get done much
I sincerely don't understand why this car is so underrated. I have a 2+2 variant at home and absolutely love it! Yeah, they are difficult to work on, but who cares?! They aren't a daily anymore. They are so beautiful and represent a generation of innovative thought and leading edge ideas. Even the Fast and the Furious considered using them but ultimately dumped the idea because they were to expensive and couldn't be quickly modified to meet the shooting schedule. I reckon do with the original VG30DETT and do it right. Demonstrate what this motor can actually do when done right.
@07:53, seatbelts in the door cards was only a pre 94 thing, it was to keep up with the automatic seatbelt feature of the 240sz, you legit, just leave the belt bucked up , open the door, adn step in and out. the only issue, was if car was lowered it was a spaghetti mess trying to tuuck your legs up under the belt to sit in the seat and close door for the "auto seatbelt feature lol. thats why in 94 they moved seatbelts the the chasis itself. you can buy 94+ seatbelts and retro fit them into the pre 94 shell
Honestly speaking best fit for this build would be a nice clean 2jz with big garret no bags, static instead clean solid paint job and y’all know the rest 💯🔥🔥🔥
Lots of great idea in the comments, I think it would be wild to have a nissan td42 turbo diesel shoehorned in there as the Era not too far off and the amount torque they can make is wild
Yo, I dont know who reads these, but I think I have watched most of the builds starting right before the RX-7 of Mickey! To the point you asked about cars we wanted to see. Ok, Audi TT, Audi S-4 early 2000. How about a VW from the 90's. Tricked out fox body 5.0 but put a different power plant in it! Just find something different or unusual. The fabrication is the best part.
If you guys need a good taillight set, I have one at home! Just cover the shipping! The sealant for the taillights is actually OEM. I've restored two 300ZXTT's.
I'm curious what you'll opt to put in it since the stock motor isn't staying. I've seen some people consider putting turbo 4-cylinders into it from various brands. I've also seen an LS-swapped one that was really nice. The engine bay isn't super cramped, so you've got some room to play with. You could probably even fit a DOHC NA V8 into it as long as the accessories get tucked close to the block.
LS’s in these have really grown on me.. I used to be very against ls swaps tbh but they are nasty, sound rad, compact.. I had a 300, and I wanted to drop a cammed LS in and manual swap, Over turbo swap/NATT.
I see this going one of two ways. I hate ls swaps, BUT i think it could be good on this car with a resto mod type vibe. Black respray with some tasteful polished wheels, two cannons out the back and pretty much stock interior. Or. K24 turbo swap. Slammed, full cage, gutted interior. Track car.
Gotta go with a fully built vg30dett. Keep with the original motor but go all out with built motor, turbos , etc Big power can be made That's what I'm doing
My vote is you guys should bag the car with one solid color (cherry red) and a RB26 single turbo swapped. Don’t know what wheels but some really nice chrome wheels on 20’s
My dream car since i was a little boy 🔥 better times will come and one day I will make my dream come true 💪🏻💪🏻 Keep up the hard work , greetings from Portugal 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Modifying her will be too easy for you guys. I love the 300 and have done since I was like 11 and still think she is gorgeous till today. The whole time watching your videos from when she arrived, I watched everybody b.tch about how bad a condition she is in and all I could think was, DO THEY REALIZE WHAT A JDM LEGEND that car is? And that she would look so lovely once restored to her former glory. I think, that would be more of a challenge for you guys and that would be my suggestion/challenge to you guys. BTW, I love the quality of your work and now that you have a 300 zx, I would love nothing more than to see you return her dignity and give her the respect she deserves by returning her back to stock and have everyone appreciate her for how she was originally intended to look. PLEASE THROTL
Rotary or LS swap, already seen a 2J build, RB build, K24 build haven't seen an LS or V8 build on this channel or Rotary yet....would be a sick drift build💁 A high revving drift build would be sick
Make it an OEM+ or something similar. The idea being you could see this coming out the factory with this motor and this trim package. The RB Series of motors would be a great selection to pull from. If you make it slightly wider go molded.
I really want to see a no roll cage, ultra nice, with modern tech, interior. No one does that in car builds... I am talking 2 toned leather wrapped stitched dash with alcantara. Heated and cooled seats with 10way adjustment. Digital dash, android head unit with full speaker setup. Ultra clean, ultra high, end ultra modern. Any engine as its all been done, any suspension as that has also been done.
As someone who is currently building a widebody, bagged and RB swapped 300zx, you guys should do a show-stanced built motor build. It could be a 2jz. RB26, maybe even build the original VG as an NA-TT setup on E85, but for the love of GOD do NOT put an LS in the thing
Nissan does that black butyl taillight rubber seals on their 90s cars. Remember swapping tails on a '91 Maxima I had and that material was the exact same - very messy!

Rickie was right to scream at Quinn when he was tugging at those headlights- those are Lambo headlights, baby!!!! Worth a fortune!!!
Twin z widebody kit for 2+2, twin z hood, twin z bumpers, twin z spoiler, jspec taillights with a hellcat swap would be awesome, unconventional drivetrain swap and def interesting to see.
Not really a fan of ev but it would be nice to see a ev in the shop .
4 rotor AWD.. wide body, midnight purple Sprinkle of throtl magic.. .. done!!
12:00 That black tailight goo is OEM. They came installed like that from the factory.
Hey guys!
Firstly, I wanna say that I really love your content and I've been a subscriber for about 2 years now.
Secondly, I love this platform and I'd really love to see the following done to the car:
- RB26 Swap
- Repaint; an OEM silver from Nissan would be my suggestion for the color
- Volk TE37s
- BC Racing Coilovers
What happened to the Z32?! Are you guys still gonna build it?
how about a barra build ?
Honestly speaking best fit for this build would be a nice clean 2jz with big garret no bags, static instead clean solid paint job and y’all know the rest 💯🔥🔥🔥
RB26 single turbo! LS swaps for 300ZX have been done so often. Keep it within the Nissan family of engines!
Option A: high HP VG30DETT,
Option B: VR38
Option C: RB26DETT
TO THE MOON FELLAS!!!!
Lots of great idea in the comments, I think it would be wild to have a nissan td42 turbo diesel shoehorned in there as the Era not too far off and the amount torque they can make is wild
I vote for a LD28T swap. Super rare and super cool. 1 of 1 build.
Loved the video! I’m hesitating about buying a Nissan 300zx 1984 for myself and this video helped me learning a bit more about it! Thank you a lot!
Rickys got it!!!! 20B !!!!
VR38DETT all the way!!!!!! Can you imagine 530 hp stock. So reliable.
Rotary swap for sure...Let Ricky work his magic
I see this going one of two ways.
I hate ls swaps, BUT i think it could be good on this car with a resto mod type vibe. Black respray with some tasteful polished wheels, two cannons out the back and pretty much stock interior.
Or. K24 turbo swap. Slammed, full cage, gutted interior. Track car.
Throl gets busy guys show that work 😎👍
Gotta go with a fully built vg30dett.
Keep with the original motor but go all out with built motor, turbos , etc
Big power can be made
That's what I'm doing
GTR engine & drive-train, oem body+ (no wide body, maybe just a lip kit) air-ride suspension, nice wheels.
no way masa is there, from being a fan to meeting and being friends of all these cool people, good on you masa!
Would love to see either a twin turbo Voodoo, LT4 with a 7speed manual or a Hellcat swap
17 30
You are not messing with that viper.
My vote is you guys should bag the car with one solid color (cherry red) and a RB26 single turbo swapped. Don’t know what wheels but some really nice chrome wheels on 20’s
@12:26, believe it or not, that is oem design. rubberized sealant on taol lights then just foam gaskets on the center panel... why? who knows...
Loving the rescue so far. Really satisfying
I'm doing a 1990 300zx z32 2+0 project right now. One of my favorite cars.
Most unexpected engine swap would be a barra
Engine: K-swap
Color change pearl white or midnight purple
Bagged it
Deap dish rims
No way masa in tj and throtl vlogs love that guy
LS + 6spd, 3pc wheels, air, recaros
My dream car since i was a little boy 🔥 better times will come and one day I will make my dream come true 💪🏻💪🏻
Keep up the hard work , greetings from Portugal 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Rotary or LS swap, already seen a 2J build, RB build, K24 build haven't seen an LS or V8 build on this channel or Rotary yet....would be a sick drift build💁
A high revving drift build would be sick
SR22VET swap with some wild widebody kit on it. TwinZ is my vote
Nissan does that black butyl taillight rubber seals on their 90s cars. Remember swapping tails on a '91 Maxima I had and that material was the exact same - very messy!
na-block with TT heads. gt28rs turbo upgrade. will be a straight beast. vg30dett is very under rated
Fat turbo + LS7 + hood stack + drag slicks
