The Haka is a way NZ honours other countries. They do it at weddings funerals and send offs. It is the greatest honour a Kiwi can give you.

Im a kiwi and i love Bryan Habana and the South African team and culture😍i had the honours of serving them along with all other teams the All blacks played in our home town back in New Zealand. P.s worked at the Novotel Hotel and got to Liaise the teams who stayed and of all of them i loved the Springbox and the Argentinean Pumas the most😍and yes the ABS aswell xox also whos this beautiful man singing our Anthem? Sings it better than alot of kiwis tho❤also the South African anthem is beautiful

It used to be a song that the slaves used to sing to pass the time and make their days go by quicker. Over the years it became popular in sporting events and thus it is now sang by the fans of South African rugby

The song relates to the train that brought migrant workers over the mountains to and from South Africa - not slaves as stated above. In a rugby context it was most often sung when your team was grinding away in a protracted scrum. It's a pity the song is no longer as popular as it once was, as it is thrilling to hear a stadium in full cry.
