I’m absolutely hitting LASERS with my short irons, and hitting big fades with longer clubs. Is it possible that the length of shaft and weight simply requires a “harder” release (similar to how you have to release the big push broom with more oomph) to square the face? Incredible how neutral my trackman numbers are with shorter clubs. You are a legend! Thank you 🙏 PS my swing speed is high enough for my 3 iron, etc, and my path is neutral, but having a very hard time squaring the face with the long sticks. Strong grip etc as you suggest.
Great to hear your golf is in such a great place! Yes the weight could be having an effect on the release of your golf club. Experiment, but could be the problem. Best wishes Stu 😊
This beginning about grip and feels was practically tailored to my needs! 😂 Great info! I went for a utility 3 iron with a light but stiff KBS hybrid shaft and the feel of more fade/cup/neutral grip/release and it works well, but I’m definitely on the cusp as a slightly above average speed player. It’s not perfect and sometimes a bit low but works off the tee under pressure, whereas I’m still to find a hybrid or wood I can fully trust.
Keep plugging away Chris and use what makes you feel most comfortable under pressure!

I would recommend to sticking with long irons off tees for sure, and only certain conditions and courses. As for the release pattern, depends what grip youre going to use. Best wishes Stu 😊

That’s why they make hybrids, although, I need to try a 7&9 wood.

I know with my club head speed anything longer than a 5i (or 25 degrees of loft) is probably pointless with an iron. Whilst it would be fun to try and hit a modern 4i or longer, why make golf hard, my 23 degree hybrid is just easier and gets plenty of height

Same reason I use a 17 degree 3 hybrid instead of a 3 wood. I only lose 10 yards but can hit fairways and greens a lot more.

I used to have 2 iron in my old set of Wilsons. I could smoke that thing off a tee back in the day, completely useless off the deck.
The added tee height gives a hair more launch which means so much visually and fer yardage with a long iron.
