Sir Antony Beevor, historian and renowned writer, discusses his new book Russia - Revolution and Civil War 1917-1921; its influence on the history of the 20th Century and events today; Ukraine/Russia, Second World War; medical treatment in 20th Century warfare; geopolitics and the consequences of Putin’s war.
Antony Beevor’s books include Stalingrad, Berlin, D-Day, The Battle for Spain and the Second World War. His work, which has received major prizes in this country and abroad, has appeared in thirty-five languages and sold more than eight and a half million copies. His latest book is Russia - Revolution and Civil War 1917-1921. A former Chairman of the Society of Authors, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and the Royal Historical Society, he has received honorary doctorates and fellowships from five universities. He was knighted in 2017.

A great interview, thanks. And Putin has also re-erected the statue of Felix Dzerzhinsky, on 11 Sept 2023. He led the first two Soviet secret police organizations, the Cheka and the OGPU, establishing state security organs for the post-revolutionary Soviet regime. He was one of the architects of the Red Terror. (It had been taken down in 1991 as russians were waking up and speaking out about the horrors of their past - but no more.)
Quite fascinating, the gratuitous comment about President Trump aside.
The interviewer is very biased
They are both very ignorant about Trump - unable to distinguish results from words. Disappointing from a bright light as Beevor. He must be in decline.
