The odd-even principle is something to take in account very much indeed when pre-programming your StudioLive series III consoles. especially with drums, and laying out the other instruments you'll sometimes find that actually skipping a channel or leaving it blank is beneficial (to be able to stereo-link keyboard or overhead channels i.e.) Myself I'm a soundtech for a 5-piece classic rock coverband using the PreSonus ecosystem with a StudioLive 64S III combined with 3 SW5E AVB-switches, 3 NSB 16.8 stageboxes and 4 Earmix 16M's to give everybody control over their own wedge monitor sound. I usually work in input-mode on the console, with my DCA's spilled out on the right (8 fader) bucket for quick control over a set of inputs. I use the user-layer as a convenience to have i.e. the guitar DI and mic combined on one fader. Because the band doesn't require as much channels that I would go over 24 i can stay in input mode for the majority of time. Now here's something important I think for everybody using a PreSonus ecosystem combining their console with stageboxes and such, which is, make sure that the clock of the console is set to 'Network'... I noticed that if you leave the clock set to 'Internal' the console can lose sync, which might cause digital artefacts, or in the worst case (as I've experienced once or twice) the console going haywire because of losing sync! You'll most noticably see the console losing sync when your flex-mix buttons briefly start flashing red! I hope this tip helps a lot of engineers who use this wonderful ecosystem!
@@AttawayAudio Having the console clock set to 'Network' will (inevitably) induce just a tiny tad more latency, but it keeps all the points in the AVB-network in sync. For large venues and if too noticable, you can ofc work with the input-delays on your channel to compensate. For the DCA's btw in my right bucket I have them set so: 1) Pocket (Kick, Snare, Hihat, Ride), 2) Toms, 3) Overheads, 4) Bass (DI + Amp), 5) Guitar (DI + Amp), 6) Keyboards, 7) BV's, 8) LV. I can mostly mix the band like that with 8 faders, while having fine control on the left 24 channel bucket. Oh, also... The Brit Compressor on the master bus with a 2:1 setting and a gentle input (the meter barely moves) gives you that nice round but also crisp SSL sound ;-) Love your stuff, keep them PreSonus StudioLive tips coming, they're very usefull and educational! ♥
The user page is the best!! I love how you can just make it exactly how you want. Personally i have my audio playbacks channels and all my fx returns and sub groups along with some dca , pastor mic and speaking wireless mics ready to go on that page so it super convenient and it take out the layer flipping to a minimal. Thanks James 🙂
Really good info. Well done. I find the StudioLive (32S Model) somewhat complicated to use, even after having it for about 2 years now. Your info helps with stereo linked channels problem. I do wish I could find out if I can reprogram the Transport Rewind Button to actually rewind (without hitting the shift button first) instead of it by default being a RTZ button. (I'd rather have it reversed). Hitting the shift button first in order to have it Rewind is annoying and slows things down when using the mixer w/ Studio One software. Your videos are always very well explained. Thanks. Phil NYC / Jersey Shore Area
Interesting video and great approach that you came up with. Saves a lot of fader space and great idea. Would you know how to hook up an external interface with the Studio Live 32S model rather than using the built in interface that comes with the mixer. I want to use a 32 in and 32 out interface like an Antelope Orion Interface. I prefer to do my mixes running the Studio One Software Outputs through my 32 channel analog mixer as I have a lot of vintage outboard gear. It is just more intuitive to patch external rack gear this way for work flow. I know I saw a video on this by someone last year, but can't seem to find it. I thought I would ask you as your videos are always well explained and provide great work around solutions using the Studio Live. My model is the 32S model...All the best. Does anyone know in witch Order the effects be processed? Can you somehow influence the order? So for example effect 2 should fade into effect 3 etc etc
Hello Im new in this mixer, and I have this question as to how am I going to program separate FX(A,B,C,D) to channel? Coz when I assign FX A to channel 1, all channels are in it and if I change the FX in other channel all change. How do I set it to use different FX in different channels? Thankds and more power.
I would like to know as well, been using this board for 2 years now, got it usedfirmware's never been upgraded. My pianist wants reverb and I don't want reverb on any other channel, please help
you can choose the same input for two different channels. y-cables can give a little bit of signal loss or create electrical problems with phantom power.
@@AttawayAudio can you do that in studio live iii? I'm not using phantom power for the mics since they are coming through wireless systems. Seem to be working fine with a y cable but wanted a more stable and scalable solution for the presonus console.

could you make a video of how to make a broadcast mix using a matrix

That accent at the beginning was awesome 😂😂
10 points to whoever can identify the region the accent is supposed to be from... because I honestly don't know.
@@AttawayAudio i dont know either 😂. Guess I'm losing 10 points
I think he was channelling 'The Jolly Heretic' (on UA-cam)
Super helpful. Thanks.
Thanks James. Do you like/dislike/indifferent that the User Layer settings are tied to projects instead of scenes on this console?
indifferent. But great observation!

So glad it's helpful! I don't have an iPad for recording the screen... I just use Universal Control on my PC
So is this an aspect the same way you move your aux channels to the other side of the main fader?
Yup
Thank you sir, you the man James Attaway!
The only thing that really annoys me is that there is no insert option on the mixer. just send and return
You can use the USB interface to create an insert of sorts. ua-cam.com/video/83Hn6s1QyN8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=AttawayAudio
How did you double patch? With a y cable? Anything wrong with y cables?
