When Starship was having its resurgence in the 80s, I was always blown away with Mickey’s voice and couldn’t understand why he wasn’t talked about with the same awe as the big voices of the era. Legend.
Sorry but Marty’s voice had a certain quality especially when Kantner and Cassidy harmonized not to mention how much Grace contributed. Had a hard time hearing “Jane Jane Jane” for a while. Strangely enough I loved Nuclear Furniture only to spend big bucks to sit close to Paul K who decided not to tour which kinda caused me to lose interest. A few years later The KBC Band (Kantner, Balin,Cassidy) did an excellent album and song called “America “ That was pretty much the end for me. Though I really liked them once upon a time
I was never a huge fan of starship... I did like Jane... But Mickey Thomas I think was always an underrated vocalist... He was one of the greatest voices of the '70s and '80s... I love listening to him on Elvin Bishop's fooled around and fell in love... Great singers great to see that he can still do it.. hitting those notes at 75 years old can't be easy
He hasn’t missed a beat. Sometimes you go see an older performer out of respect for their legacy, but with this guy you’re getting the same caliber performance as decades ago.
I produced the Starship show in London KY in 2021 on Cian Coey's first appearance. She's still sounding awesome. Hi to Jeff, John, Darrell, Phil, Cian and Mickey. Sounding great, gang!
I doubt there is anyone his age with a voice like that. There's not many young ones either. Mickey is such a great singer and brings such great memories of youth. Thank you.👍😇😊
All due respect to Sir Paul, he is not known for his "singing", he's not one of those guys you marvel at his voice. Mickey was always one of those guys. First time I ever heard JANE, I lost my mind. and as @gazzza beat me to it, one of the greatest voices of all time and still doing it at 70+ is Glenn Hughes Listen to "one last soul" by BCC --which he did in his 60s-- when it comes out of the solo. Perhaps my favorite thing I ever heard LOL
Love Mickey Thomas. I'm glad they're preserving the iconic legacy of THE JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. Grace Slick will never be replaced. She's ICONIC. Her voice unbeatable! Love you Grace Slick....no one can sing 'Somebody to Love' & 'White Rabbit' like you! Sending ❤❤❤
They were in Wichita. KS in June and he sounds better now. I just think by the time their tour made it our way he was tired. He still has it though. I had so much fun at their concert I still love them!❤
I saw them on Saturday, the day after this, they were GREAT! I was shocked how good Mickey can still sing! Wow! They started with Jane on the middle show on Sat. and it sounded amazing. Live, it was really impressive, more so than the videos I took. I found out they've been doing Epcot for 22 years and they have a huge following. Great job Mickey and Starship.
Seen Starship and Mickey at the “Rock N CholesteRoll Concert at Jefferson Barracks Amphitheater next to the Mississippi River in St. Louis, MO, in 2010. Rock On. 👍🙏
'Winds of Change' tour was Jefferson Starship🤩 !! There is a big difference, but hey their history has been many incarnations of titles/lineups so can be disorienting 🤙
Seen them a couple years ago. Mickey is for sure one of the few real deal vocalists left. Also, love this Ampeg w/ what looks like a Beta-52 stuck in the grill.
Just the greatest rock vocal voice since he was in Elvin Bishop…Come to Oklahoma in 2024 Mickey Thomas..as a truck at 58 i still try to hit those high notes like Mickey does 🚛
Living in Orlando and having siblings work for Disney , over the yrs I've seen David Cassidy Peter Noone Sheena Easton Gary Puckett Beach Boys Juice Newton Three Dog Night Billy Ocean Chic and Nile Rogers Mickey Thomas Go-Go's I'm sure I've seen many more
She is no Grace Slick, But she look like her a bit. But, She does have a good voice. I seen Jefferson Airplane in the late 1960's in Houston, Texas with Iron Butterfly. What a concert!
When Steve perry left .... first call should have been ..... Mickey ...also listen to Jane and realize he probably would have kicked ass as a vh front man and checked off all Eddie's boxes for Rock and pop
Saw Starship last Octoober and I was amazedhow great Mickey sounded the whole show! The girl is not Grace Slick but she is good! Members are different but I was a fan when they were Jefferson Starship! ❤
Mickey fired her over silly Covid crap, that made me angry at Mickey. Bring her back dude, Covid you can blame it on you just being a nasty person. Didn’t have to treat her like that and she was perfect for this band
Steph had better tone and harmonies Mickey firing her for not being vaccinated is ridiculous. 15 years she was w him. He left her hanging for a month to try this new girl out who was a friend of hers. Once he knew she was capable the ax came down. These are words right out of Steph’s mouth.
@@chromemusic4401 she seems very nice and humble and Mickey does too but man you kinda pissed me off you fired her over Covid. You can thank your silly government for the hatred you had for her, don’t have to be nasty about it Mickey. Maybe she couldn’t get it or I didn’t get one so what it seemed fishy. With someone for 15 years and just drop them over because the government is so hateful and made you be nasty to her? No reason to be nasty Mickey, over a silly Covid shot wow big deal Mickey. Oh now he back to dying his hair too? My god some of these rockers just need to be nice and stop being jerk offs. Close your mouths and respect others, no need to be nasty to your band mates
Yes! The grey hair and scruffy beard Mickey had the past few years wasn't the best look for him. Made him look much older. Looking and sounding like he did 4-5 years ago, now. Just great!
Jane your playin a game you never can win girl , yeah he did have a great voice and still does. Im gonna guess he never smoked a day in his life. Fabulous

So true--one of the best singers of all time
Saw Mickey for the first time in the 70's singing with Elvin Bishop, Santa Cruz. Still sounds good!

I don't know how many times I drove on the highway singing "Sara" and almost tearing up because the song is so beautiful. What a great song.
That long road ahead, half of it washed away with hazy sun. Been there too!!
Someone has taken VERY good care of their voice. Pretty amazing at his age. Bravo!
Mickey and Steve Perry are the elite rock singers in history. Mickey is still kicking butt..WOW..👍👍
Mickey Thomas is 75 years old and still hitting those notes Amazing!
I have been a fan of this band since the Jefferson Airplane. Still a fan of Mickey and Starship.
The other girl was better.
Definitely one of the greatest singers ever!!!! His voice is still incredibly good.
Absolutelyfreaking right..what a set of pipes!
Saw them in the 80s. Mickey rocked and still does.

They give me a warm fuzzy feeling.☺️☺️☺️
I saw them many years ago on their Winds of Change tour when Grace was in the band. Awesome show.
'Winds of Change' tour was Jefferson Starship🤩 !! There is a big difference, but hey their history has been many incarnations of titles/lineups so can be disorienting 🤙
Someone paid for a ticket to see this live so they could watch it through a screen like we are right now.
That’s somewhat true, but I did it to share it and save the memory.
I just saw them and it was free lol
Winger's other guitar player there with Starship.
He sounds and looks awsome

Does STARSHIP ever sing the Jefferson Airplane song "Runaway"? I've heard them do almost all Jefferson songs except that one.
Grace is 84 years old. Just like to throw that out there to make you think....
The Micky Thomas Band....
This is Mickey and a backup band. He totally screwed Craig over.
He was best with Elvin bishop just my rolled up joint opinion!!😊
Is that Grace Slick?
No, Grace has been retired for a few years. The co-lead vocalist is Cian Coey
Love this. But Gracie………. ❤❤❤
Now fronted by Grace Skidmark.
More cowbell!
NOT Grace Slick
Starship? Give me a break…
