I've got massive cherry and locusts on my property and no one wants to timber them. Maybe because of this COVIND19 crap. I have cherry 36 inches in diameter and locusts in 28 inches in diameter. I guess they'll just keep on growing and getting bigger. Oh and those measurements are from chest height.
      P.S. nice video.

Like a lot of us, I came for the cool grain patterns and stayed for Nathan, the cats and literally every thing else. And every now and then you get reminded what drew you here in the first place and that rainbow pattern is a great example.

This channel is ridiculously addictive. I had no knowledge of how the timber ends up in the yard at just the right size. I found myself trying to explain to the Mrs what quarter sawn meant just the other day. Now I want my own saw mill. 😁

What surprises nature has in store for us if we look and are patient as it unfolds its beauty. I'm a 75 year old woodworker and still amazed at what lies just below the surface. Love your videos and your excitement with each discovery.

My thoughts are so very close to your own words. Nature never ceases to impress with its beauty. No matter how many times I see a beautiful piece of lumber, I am still awed by the natural beauty that exists inside trees.

i have this exact same very attitude with stone everyone is paying so much for granite counter tops and where i live there are HUGE granite boulders just sitting in farmers fields not even 8 miles from me.
getting them out of the farmers rock piles and finding a rock saw though.... thats a little tougher

Cut carefully and that log would make all the parts to a dining type table. Legs, top and apron. What's left would make a pair of outstanding coffee tables with enough left for a couple of upscale shooting boxes etc. Using the remnants, you could turn pens, tops and a plethora of other small but distinctive items. That's what is so great about wood in its rawest form.

The Wood-Mizer company, started right down the road from me, the address was Greensburg Indiana but it was closer to Batesville, in Newpoint. They were great people that treated their workers well, my oldest boy was there in the early days as it grew. You have some nice wood there, I love the poplar, and its smell when fresh sawn, sort of like chocolate.

Nathan, some of us are a bit slow...mind you it’s 5am in Australia but I watched that beautifully grained slab at the start of your video...went grabbed my coffee, came back and watched you cutting it into strips! 1” or 2”” whatever spilled my coffee over my duvet!
Now that makes for a memorable New Year’s Day.
By the way you can be sure the “end of the world” ain’t coming tomorrow cos it’s tomorrow already over here and all’s sort of......well actually it does sorta feel like the end of the world as we all knew it. Now back to our favourite: Out of The Woods milling boards...

Nathan - I just started watching your channel just this week - I have a lot of catching up to do my friend - but although I don't know that much about milling logs, you've kept my attention with your down home humor and just being an overall good ol' boy like myself... you don't make any special claims to be anything other than who you are - I'm glad to subscribe to your channel and I soak in all your knowledge of something I've always respected and yet know so little of. You make even the normal everyday chores around your farm intriguing and fun to watch.... I'm sure an 8-10 minute video takes hours and hours to produce (all by yourself...well maybe the cats do help a little....😉) and then there's the editing...so you have to be a busy, busy man to do all this - that's why I appreciate your channel and am proud to be a new subscriber!!!
Best of luck to you and your family reaching the next 100K subscribers!!
    RichieC (Georgia Boy)

I love the machinery this man uses. I am old school, born in "55". My father was a lumberjack in the pristine forests of B.C Canada. I saw the industrial insides of "M.B. King mills" on the north shore where my father worked for 35 years. I saw Ceder trees so large, 20 men had to stretch themselves just to join hands around it's girth. I can tell you the name of the tree just by it's smell.I can appreciate this mans love of the grain of different wood. I live in Alberta now and carve "Diamond willow" to make lamp stands. The beauty of the minerals in the twist of the hard wood make it impossible for me to stop carving. I've never seen this man before, but i love what he does. Tho we are worlds apart; We are men of the same grain.

Rainbow poplar.. new and interesting. Never knew you could get that. Yes, it's not "poplar" with the masses, but at least it's something unique to look at. I don't know enough about wood to save my soul, but I sure can appreciate beauty found under the bark. Thank you for educating me on different kinds of wood ,what they look like and just how to never judge a tree by its bark. There could be hidden beauty under it.

WOW! That is one B-E-A-UTIFUL slab of cherry wood. I'd have to admit, I have never seen a cherry tree that big, myself. I'd bet the largest I have seen has been maybe 14 to 16 inches above the butt-swell at the largest. That is truely a thing of beauty. The rainbow poplar was quite beautiful as well. Either one would make for some really beautiful furniture/cabinetry.
You do get some great logs across your mill, for sure.

Nathan, You need to come up here to NE Ohio next summer and bring a trailer with you. And will send you home with some big cherry and Black Walnut logs that you'll enjoy cutting up into 8 and 10/4 live edges. There all over around here, So much that the firewood guys get them.

One of my favorite channels. Chilling out and watching your videos after a rough day can really make the rest of the day much more enjoyable.

Damn that Poplar really stole the show...and I'm only a third of the way into the video.
I had a Poplar jump on me before. I was on a flat but toward the street the flat dropped off 20 feet. As soon as that Poplar sprung it twisted, hopped and bucked in the air. The top of the tree was overhanging the hillside but no one was hurt and traffic remained smooth. What a rush!

I have an old gun cabinet made from some pretty rainbow poplar. The stain they used really brought out the colors well.
