If you don't want scammers spoofing your domain, you'll need to add an SPF or DMARC record to your site's code. Find some instructions on how to do it here: support.google.com/a/answer/1...

As far as freelance work sites are concerned, the first red flag that it is a scam is if they ask you to communicate outside of the platform. These scammers are targeting newcomers on freelance work sites who are eager to get their first job and rating.
Same with every other site with a messaging system
if they want to talk on something else, red flag
LinkedIn has them too. That’s where I got scammed
Only difference is they called me for a phone interview
Don’t these guys feel evil about them selfs
I’ve had a scammer say kill yourself and you will get something back
But please don’t kill yourself it’s not worth it anyway that scammer should be fucking fired
Yeah a scammer contacted me a few years ago it went from LinkedIn to Google hang out. We talked for like a week strictly on Google hang out no other platform.
I was a victim of this, but on Fiverr. I applied for my first front-end web development job and got it. I spent a week working on a project, sent all the files, and never got paid.
As a Nigerian myself working online it I'm so pissed at these scammers as they've made things very hard for the legit people.

The sad thing is there's millions of brilliant young men/women sitting on valuable degrees but they can't find a job because of how fucked Nigeria is right now
Dishonest people are just not built for honest work
As a Full time Freelance Video Editor from Nigeria, It breaks my heart all the time Ben Reveals these scammers are from Nigeria.
They really tarnish the image of Nigerians on the internet and make it difficult for people trying to actually work and help make the world a better place.
The only thing you can do is speak out and hopefully the government can take action. Of course, all Nigerians can't be held for the actions of some Nigerian scammers. This is really where cybersecurity professionals and policemen should be involved. I can definitely see that this could be a issue for Nigeria when trying to conduct international business in the future. Cheers!

As someone from Kenya, I always laugh when you call them and their nigerian accent gives them away. Their accent is so obvious. If you’re gonna be a scammer pretending to be in US, at least learn their accent 🙄

@@hk254lyt8 Hmmh, I don't know. Using a VPN & standard messaging apps/E-mail doesn't really scream "effort" to me. Actually self set up platforms for more elaborate scams is putting in effort to me.
Perhaps we can call spoofing putting in effort, but that's something that has become relatively easy nowadays & therefore more common.
I’ve had Jamaican scammers actually do that but when they realize I am Jamaican and can still hear their accent they curse me out… in our native tongue…. I’m used to hiding my accent too but I don’t think they remember there are other Jamaicans in the states as well.

Yeah, I’m an illustrator, and I was looking for work on upwork. I saw a job like this, and I thought it was legit… and ended up getting scammed. Looking back, there were red flags, but I didn’t see them, neither did my parents when I was discussing it with them. I was so upset, my social security number is floating out there in the world in the hands of some jerk. I still feel embarrassed talking about it. I felt really stupid. But in the end, it was the malicious thieves who are at fault. Take this as a cautionary tale y’all, it can happen to you! God bless!

I remember almost getting scammed by this back in 2016 when I was out and looking for a job. I thought it sounded shady, but that drop of "maybe it's real" pulled me forward. Hey Ben, I'm from New Zealand and lately alot of my friends have had their Facebook hacked. Scammers have been messaging me (from friend accounts) with all types of grants, but thanks to you.. I know it's a scam. Your helping heaps of people, stay blessed!
Someone stole my father's picture and tried the same scam through messenger, I played along for a few minutes and called the scammer out, he blocked me. Thanks to these type of videos I was able to let my father know, and he informed his friends that accepted his new friend request. THANK YOU PLEASANT GREEN!
Someone hacked my friend's Facebook page too and sent me a message about grants. I reported it from my friend's hacked page.
Contact Facebook. They would send you a link to verify your identity. Happened to me
They likely weren't hacked and the scammers just made fake accounts impersonating them.
That’s one of the main reasons why I deleted my Facebook. It got to a point where almost half of the people on my friends list had their accounts hacked, and I was getting those grant messages on a daily basis. Then what started happening was my friends were creating new accounts because they weren’t able to access their original accounts, so one person could have 2-3 different accounts, I didn’t know which one was real or not. I lost touch with a lot of friends from this, because I didn’t know which account was real so I couldn’t message them my number.
Imagine a former scammer at a job interview
“What job experience do you have”
“I have 7 years in the scamming field”
LOLOLOLOL 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
One more thing about DMARC though: A DMARC policy is a request, not an obligation!!
A DMARC policy instructs to treat the emails according to the DMARC policy, but the recipient side (a system admin can do this, not a standard mailbox user) of the email is not required to comply with the DMARC policy.
i’m so sick of scammers but these types of videos are so entertaining
Sad that the US can't go to war with these international scammers, but go after US citizens with everything who are a dollar off their taxes.
Hi I am from South Africa and it is scary how many scams you get the last few years. It is almost as if after lockdown everything just got crazy. My husband lost his business due to Covid and it is so hard to survive. It feels like all the scammers like to feed from people like us that has nothing. We do not have food but I will never go and scam someone. How do they sleep at night. Your videos are great.
I nearly fell for a scam like this around the a YEAR prior to the time this video released. I was in a very very desperate place having been unemployed and COVID was destroying job hopes. At the time I was not aware of your channel, but this is insanely valuable information. I got super wary when it came time for the instant deposit to be sent back to the interviewer for the softwares needed. The red flag to me was the softwares listed cost way, way, *WAY* more than what the check they had written me would've cost, even with business discounts etc. Thank you for the work you're doing. Hope you can save someone.
Coming from someone who has been scammed in the past, scammers are now much easily visible. Thank you and keep coming out with amazing videos!

I'm glad all of the scam baiting videos I've been watching led me to this one, because I almost fell for a similar scam a few years ago. In my case it was through an email job offer that looked pretty legit at first. I was lucky enough to start catching on when they mentioned the check. When I started questioning them they started insisting they would be using a trusted vendor. I told them I needed some time to think about it and if I could get in contact with them the next day, and before I could respond they deleted the chat entirely. It's a relief to see others talking about this type of scam,. In my case, they posed as a big studio preying on small artists, and I know I'm not the only one.
I really hope this cikaordeary story continues, and ends happily
You know its a scam when they write "their" company name in all caps

This sounds like what I went through today... ugh can't believe I fell for it. Its was slightly different but very closely the same. I blocked the guy before losing any money. I love what you added to the content in the end. Am African and can guarantee you that this is our biggest problem with regards to productivity. The last thing they would want to do is make a meaningful impact to their world. They are so twisted in lies that you even wonder what at all makes the African unique. All they do is bring disgrace with their desire for easy lives. For them to apply for a real career job and help others in the process as you rightly put sounds like a curse to many down here. This makes it so easy for corruption to creep up their souls and put the wrong leaders in their administrations. I pray my people come to the light one day and see how truly remarkable a people they are.
Please can someone explain to me why in the US (and maybe elsewhere?) money becomes available *before* the check has cleared? It seems like huge loophole for scammers... The same thing doesn't happen if you send a wire or pay into an account using a card. There's an implicit pre-check on the sender's side to make sure there are funds available.
I wonder if different banks have different policies; bec my credit union will not give me access until the check clears.
I know, it’s a terribly flawed system that affected me as well. The justification for it is that some people are living from paycheque to paycheque and so will require access to funds before they can clear, but this is an extremely outdated policy since there is no employer that uses cheques as a regular form of payment in this day and age.
