Yes, Pashto, the language spoken by the Pashtun people, is believed to have some historical and linguistic connections to Sanskrit, the ancient Indo-Aryan language of the Indian subcontinent. But originally pashto is Eastern Iranian language in the Indo- European language family.
I don’t speak Pashto but I’m interested in languages. Pashto is clearly an eastern Iranic language. To say it comes from Sanskrit is not true and no serious academic would agree with that statement. Pashto does not have any real connections to Sanskrit. But it does have some similarities/connections with old Avestan. The old Avestan language has similarities with Sanskrit. So that can cause some confusion if your not educated on the subject. Additionally Afghan Pashto has a lot of Persian language influence and Pakistani Pashto has Urdu influence. And as a side note, Interestingly there are also words shared between Pashto and Kurdish that are not shared between Farsi and Kurdish.
