    In this video:
    The girl was Venetia Burney of Oxford, England. Venetia’s great uncle, Science Master of Eton Henry Madan, in 1877 suggested the name for the two dwarf moons of Mars, Deimos and Phobos (fear/panic and dread/terror). This was referencing the fact that Deimos and Phobos were twin brothers, the children of the god Ares (Mars in Roman mythology), specifically being the offspring of Ares and Aphrodite.

      Then they would have spelled it Urunus. Or Urinus if it was pronounced urine-us. Personally, I prefer Uranus. Helps give away the folks who tend to keep regressing to 8th grade humor instead of focusing on the discussion at hand.

    I really like todayIfoundout and began listening to it on podcasts on android.
    I understand that it was a cost measure but since moving to youtube, i tend to listen to it signifcantly less. It's just a lot more inconvenient and takes more data to watch a video than listen to a mp3 stream.
    Are there any plans to resurrect the podcasts if a solution is in the works?

    • @TodayIFoundOut
      @TodayIFoundOut  9 років тому

      DalazG Eventually, yes. Though it might be a while. We're hoping to at some point change the format a bit to be much longer (probably weekly hour long shows or something) and leverage a large UA-cam audience (UA-cam subscribers tend to translate fairly well to podcast subscribers from people we've talked to) to help make the podcast even more popular, both points being much more desirable to potential advertisers and hopefully making such a thing financially sustainable. First, of course, we need to actually get the large UA-cam audience. ;-)

      Actually the search for the 9th planet was initiated by Percival Lowell in 1906 who founded the Lowell Observatory in Arizona, USA. He referred to it as “Planet X” when he, in 1915, spotted / captured some unclear images of this obscure object from that farthest realm of the solar system. Lowell’s researches, however, were cut short by his death in 1916.
      The research was resumed in 1929 with Clyde Tombaugh locating a moving object from some of the images he likewise captured. In early 1930, the news on his discovery (or rediscovery?) of the new planet was communicated to the Harvard College of Observatory and in May 1930 Planet Pluto was given its official name.

    What's with all the jumps in the video? It's kinda annoying. If it was because of slip-ups and restarting the sentence, could you try to edit more smoothly? Sorry, I'm annoying like that, but it would be nicer. I guess it's not so difficult when you're just reading and not filming, though. I did like this version with him actually being filmed, though.

    • @micahphilson
      @micahphilson 9 років тому

      Today I Found Out I thought it might just be something like that, considering this is the first time it's been filmed like that. There's more to consider when editing than just the voice, but if you do it right, it's even cooler than the older videos.

    In general, you do great work, but MAN, you canNOT pronounce either Roosevelt or Lowell. You might need an American on staff you with American names (although, not all of use are good with those, either). I'd volunteer, but I live in Cambridge, Massachusetts and have the feeling that the commute might be prohibative.

      A Bird Lover Pluto derives from the Greek word Πλουτωνας which haves 2 possible origins :
      1. πλούτος which means wealth (Pluto or Hades was also considered the God of wealth)
      2. πλανώμαι which means wandering-like the souls in Hades.
      Also Hades is the word used for both the place and the God. eg : Odysseus visited Hades, the land of the dead...

      eleni lela, pluto has the attribute of wealth, since gems come from the earth (underworld), but to my knowledge hades didn't, it's easy to forget the romans changed some things around when they appropriated themselves the pantheon
