I had the great privilege of playing with Victor in the late 70's/early 80's with No Change and the Blues Train. We were both born in Ashton-undr-Lyne, he taught at my primary school - St Andrews, Hadfield - and I last played with him around Feb/March 2009 before touring the USA with The Amplifires. The real thing, authentic to the core and a lovely man.
What a fantastic man, we used to go and see him at the 'Black Horse' (think it was that, its gone now) in Werneth years ago, great great nights! Thank you Victor.
yes, it was the Black Horse pub in Werneth..we had some wonderful times in that pub with Victor at the piano and a great community of Wernethites..those really WERE the days. thanks Victor. you meant so much to do many..damian
Well at the big Surrey here in Glossop I played bass along with Alf on trumpet, Victor on keyboard (stored on occasions at our house) and on pocket cornet, together with Norman Beaker often on Friday nights
when I was at Primary school, and this GREAT Man was my teacher (especially Music) ...I knew Nothing about him ...only that he was EXCELLENT on the PIANO!!! ...at age nine, I was a tad too young to know who Jimmy Hendrix was (one of my teachers buddies)... - my basic education in music sent me the right way though... R.I.P MR HICKLING!!!
What year were you in at St Andrews? Me and my brother Ian (Rawlinson) arrived from Australia in 1967 (ten pound Poms) and, although I wasn't in his class I remember him vividly. He had a beard and a fur coat for a start and looked every inch the the rock star. I think I had just started at Glossop Comp when Victor turned his class into a New Orleans marching band - made Granada Reports and MEN that did.................I was in the same class as Steve Scott, Glyn Fitzpatrick, Louise Brierley, Alison Shaw, Margaret Curtis, Paul Gatley and many others................
@@SteveAmplifire - I was there Mid 70's ...and was involved in his New Orleans goodies... = the best part of my schooling! ...Thursday morning assembly had HIM on the piano.... it was always 'reet 4 kin good!!!' ...my class included Robert Raddon, Paul Hibbert....
I left for Glossop Comp in '69 and Ian went to Hadfield in '71. I played my first ever gig at Hadfield Como in '75 with Scotty and Paul 'Titler' Taylor. Victor's funeral is on the 20th of March at Albion Church in Ashton.....
Saw Victor a few times in Braces, the nightclub in Rochdale, owned by the late Bobby Ball. Bobby told me to f right off one night cos I called him Tommy.
Most Friday nights and Sunday lunchtime at Black horse . RIP Victor
RIP Victor, thank you so much for the music and memories.
Love Victor Brox ✌🏼😎
