    As a child in the mid 60s all the family went to Blackpool every year same two weeks, same b and b .and we used to see the same faces ,it got to be like home from home.thats when b and b was at it's best,the landlady couldn't do enough for you..bar open as long as you want,sandwiches when you got back from an evening out...fond memories of Blackpool..

      That must have been the best beat in the country in summer! I was a kid in the 70's there when it still a wonderful place to go. Just wish I could step into that film and spend a day there as it was then.

    I was born in 1966, my earliest memories are from about 1970. Some of these scenes and businesses were there in the mid 70s. I remember the old sea wall shown here, gypsy Lee and others. I remember the crowds on the promenade. Its criminal to see Blackpool decay so much.

    • @davidpendry7731

      Loved to stand near the old sea walls when it was a high tide and get covered in the spray
      Salt on your lips
      The vintage teams were unique.
      Rumble. Squeal of metal on metal and the toot toot.
      The balloon trams tour of the illuminations were the best way to see them on the upper deck during those huge numbers of visitors in the sixties
      Cockles were a treat. Guess the are long gone
      Can’t imagine Blackpool without its tower. It wouldn’t be Blackpool then
      Loved Charlie C and Paul the white faced Clowns. The closing water feature at the Tower circus
      Great Memories

    Found this very interesting, as a southerner my first visit to Blackpool was in 1972 when I was 20 so enjoyed seeing it in 1968. I came to live in Blackpool in 1982 and do love it. My first reaction to your film was how nicely everyone was dressed and no drunken behaviour.

    Val Doonican, Ken Dodd, Arthur Askey - all entertainment geniuses - what have we got now - Ant and Dec and a whole host of bizarre 'camp' comedians. What an absolutely sad time we live in, in all manner of ways

      @lemdixon01 3 роки тому +4

      Not sure about Arthur Askey, I saw one of his films and the plan was centred around baking a cake, but if you compare with Ant and Deck well they're rubbish too. I liked it when the fast show took the piss out of this catch phrase comidy, "Where's me washboard", but Ken Dodd was quite funny at times, though. I saw Frank Carson walking out of a newsagents once on Redbank Road in Bispham, Blackpool and he said "it's a cracker" as he walked out, pretty sad.

    • @scottflynn1101

      All of them inclding ant and dec will go down in entertainment history.

    • @salvadormarley
      @salvadormarley 3 роки тому +7

      I agree in some ways. They had camp back then though, think of John Inman and the carry on films with Kenneth Williams. Val Doonican was a family entertainer of course and Ken was just great. Ant and Deck - well at time's they have been witty on I'm a celebrity I'll give them credit for that and also their Gotchas would have been right at home in the sixties or seventies. For me, It's music that's dead - gone finished and over with. I remember how great this country used to be at providing the world with fantastic music, from the Beatles to Tears for fears. Also, because of political correctness, comedy both stand up and sitcom is in it's final death gasps. A sad time indeed. Glad I saw the old world back then - I was born in 1968 so I remember the very end of old England as a kid - that last few years when shops still had men in long brown coats who served behind counters (open all hours types) the world you're looking at in this video.

    The old trams, three piers, theatres, Golden Mile arcades, donkey rides, cockles, candy floss, the Pleasure Beach Big Dipper, Wild Mouse, and Grand National, stockingfeet at the Fun House and that mad clown outside, and not forgetting Blackpool Tower.

      I was in Blackpool this Sept and I would say it's on it's last legs - and I say that not with malice but with sympathy. I've never known a year like it in all the years I have been going there. It was such a dead loss that I even checked out of the hotel one day early and gave up one night's accommodation, a dinner and the breakfast in the morning ... was just glad to leave ... traveled on to Yorkshire after that ...

    Wonderful to see the Blackpool I so loved as a young 'un. If you look for the clues though, you'll find that this is 1966 not '68. Arthur Haynes, who was advertised as appearing at the Winter Gardens, had been dead for two years by 1968. Also, if you look closely, it's possible to see the words "Star time 1966" under Cilla Black's name.Plus I remember seeing Val Doonocan and Charlie Chester at the Queen's, and that was certainly 1966. Brilliant clip though. Thanks for uploading.

I think the film may have been made from a few short films which have been spliced together and could well include footage from 1966 to 1968. Thanks again for your comment.

    The working class people of that era seemed far more prosperous and careful about their appearance, than say, their descendants today.(Hardly a tattoo in sight!) The overall standard of maintenance of pretty much everything also seemed better. Britain is becoming more blighted by poverty with every year that passes and this short film can attest to that. A nation in decline and it's been that way for many, many decades now.

    I visited Blackpool a couple of times, mainly for the illuminations, and found the place expensive, unfriendly and tacky. I remember restaurants that made sure you knew they didn't like children by forbidding prams, even fold-up ones. I distinctly remember chippies with long queues and a smell of hot rancid fat coming from them. I always had the impression businesses felt they didn't have to try particularly hard to please customers, people would come in their droves to see Blackpool regardless how they were treated.
    The way the town council has let the place fall to pieces over time is heart breaking. Possibly though this development is unavoidable. The times are over when people were satisfied with worn out fair grounds, living in some converted Victorian terrace house run by a land lady who doubles as cook, a small strip of beach that is nearly always flooded by high tide and cold, damp windy weather.
    The Costa del Sol is cheaper, has nicer hotels and you go back home with a nice tan.

      my girlfriend and I almost got blown away by the wind when we were walking along the prom one year, our umbrella constantly got blown inside out which we held on to for dear life, and my poor girlfriend favorite hat blew away while she struggled to stop her dress from blowing up. What went wrong ?. If I want to see real holidays, with real people ,and real happiness on their faces, Then films like this are the only way to see it, What we have now, is a generation of selfish, greedy, gadget obsessed freaks, who think talking to their phone is having a proper conversation, I', afraid society today has lost its way, Give me the 50's 60's any day ! We may have had far less , in the way of luxuries, or even food, But that generation knew how to communicate with each other,
